WebSphere Message Broker Extender for TIBCO RV extends WebSphere Message Broker with a set of built-in nodes that provide native connectivity to TIBCO Rendezvous messaging backbones. Standard TIBCO Rendezvous offers reliable messaging and is supported by the RVInput and RVOutput nodes. TIBCO Rendezvous certified messaging is handled with the RVInputCM and RVOutputCM nodes.

The full function of WebSphere Message Broker is now available to integrate applications and solutions that rely on TIBCO Rendezvous messaging. WebSphere Message Broker also has a broad portfolio of optional IBM and IBM Business Partner nodes that deliver complementary functions.

New capabilities available for users of WebSphere Message Broker Extender for TIBCO RV include:

  • Publish and subscribe to TIBCO Rendezvous messages
  • Propagate WebSphere MQ header and properties to TIBCO Rendezvous
  • Append to WebSphere MQ from TIBCO Rendezvous data tag and values
  • Configurable TIBCO transport properties
  • Full Broker function available to apply on TIBCO Rendezvous message content
  • Eclipse plug-ins for easy installation
  • Sample message flow and documentation

WebSphere Message Broker offers the following key capabilities and benefits to TIBCO Rendezvous users.

Advanced ESB

  • Distribute any type of information across and between multiple, diverse systems and applications, providing delivery of the right information, in the right format, at the right time.
  • Reduce the complexity of point-to-point interconnections and simplify application programming through separation of integration logic from application and process logic.
  • Powerful publish-and-subscribe engine routes information in real time based on topic and content to any endpoint.
  • Validate and transform messages in-flight between any combination of different message formats, including Web Services, other XML, and non-XML formats.
  • Route messages based on (evaluated) business rules to match information content and business processes.
  • Improve business agility by dynamically reconfiguring information distribution patterns without reprogramming end-point applications.
  • Access control to securely deliver personalized information to the right place at the right time.
  • Additional function now available to provide integration with WebSphere Service Registry and Repository for true SOA governance.

Web Services support

  • Mediates (provides routing, transformation, and logging) between Web Services requesters and providers.
  • Mediates between Web Services and other integration models as both a service requester and a service provider.
  • Works with the latest implementations of standards such as Web Services Definition Language (WSDL), Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), Java Message Service (JMS), and Hypertext Transport Protocol (HTTP)
  • Offers toolkit support for drag and drop of WSDL, speeding invocation of Web Services or processing WSDL messages. Build flows directly from existing WSDL definitions and XML schema definitions.

Integration without bounds

  • Integrated WebSphere MQ transports for enterprise, mobile, real-time, multicast, and telemetry end points extend the reach, scope and scale of the enterprise integration bus out to mobile and handheld devices along with embedded devices such as sensors or actuators.
  • Enable the secure and seamless interaction of enterprise applications with thousands of users within the intranet and across the Internet.
  • Extend business integration to the mobile, wireless, and telemetry environments — from the smallest sensor to the latest PDA.
  • Use multicast to optimize network use when broadcasting information such as real-time market data.
  • Provide native JMS interoperability, acting as a bridge between any combinations of different JMS providers.

Unmatched performance and lower cost of ownership

  • WebSphere Message Broker delivers unmatched performance across all platforms, offering high-speed, reliable data movement.
  • Robust vertical and horizontal scaling enables Message Broker to maximize your infrastructure and multiprocessor environments to deliver a true enterprise-class ESB.
  • Superior performance, scalability, and manageability as compared to leading competitors in the business integration space.

Extend your infrastructure with broader reach and applicability

  • Extend your existing infrastructure without the need for costly replacement solutions.
  • Centralized administration of distributed Message Brokers improves flexibility and control, now enabling easy administration of production Brokers through the WebSphere MQ Explorer.
  • More granular security with support for database user ID and password.
  • Accounting and statistics reports support usage-based charges and performance analysis for internal business chargeback.
  • Rapid testing with single-click execution.
  • Rapid deployment and administration.
  • Custom message processing extensions in Java and C.
  • Product extensions previously available from IBM as downloads now packaged with the product and available through a one-click installation option.

WebSphere Message Broker Extender for TIBCO RV supports TIBCO Rendezvous V6, or later, and extends WebSphere Message Broker V6 on IBM AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Sun Solaris, and Microsoft Windows.

Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act

WebSphere Message Broker Extender for TIBCO RV is capable as of June 22, 2007, when used in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it.

IPLA and subscription and support considerations

IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an enterprise. You may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single proof of entitlement (PoE). It is your responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license.

Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made.

Product positioning

WebSphere Message Broker Extender for TIBCO RV extends the reach of IBM's advanced ESB offering. Now applications that share information across a WebSphere MQ messaging backbone can also publish and subscribe to information shared across a TIBCO Rendezvous information bus. This eliminates a perceived obstacle for clients who want to choose best-of-breed software products from the WebSphere portfolio, or who are considering high-performance IBM hardware platforms but perhaps feel constrained to do so by a dependence on a TIBCO messaging backbone.

Charge metrics definitions

Value Unit: A Value Unit is a pricing charge metric for program license entitlements that is based on the quantity of a specific designated measurement used for a given program. Each program has a designated measurement. The most commonly used designated measurement is a processor core. However, for selected programs, there are other designated measurements such as users, client devices, and messages. The number of Value Unit entitlements required for a program depends on how the program is deployed in your environment and must be obtained from a Value Unit table. You must obtain a PoE for the calculated number of Value Unit entitlements for your implementation. The Value Unit entitlements are specific to a program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Unit entitlements of another program.

Processor (Value Unit): A processor core is a functional unit within a computing device that interprets and executes instructions. A processor core consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or more arithmetic or logic unit. With multicore technology, each core is considered a processor. Not all processor cores require the same number of Value Unit entitlements. To calculate the number of Value Unit entitlements required, refer to the value unit table on the following Web site

With full capacity licensing, a PoE must be acquired for the appropriate number of value units based on all activated processor cores available for use on the server.

IBM Electronic Services

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put you on the road to higher systems availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available on the IBM eServer® platform. These services provide the opportunity for greater system availability due to faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate but complementary elements: IBM Electronic Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent™.

Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent is no-additional charge software that resides on your IBM system. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, customer-defined timetable. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems.
