Description:

IBM General Parallel File System (GPFS) is a cluster file system designed for high-performance parallel file transfer and parallel I/O to single or multiple files. GPFS delivers proven reliability, multicluster support, scalability and performance with automated failure recovery, and decentralized data management for simplifying administration.

IBM General Parallel File System for x86 Architecture is a renaming of the previously available GPFS for Linux and Windows Multiplatform 0ffering.

Version 3.5 enhancements:

  • The File Placement Optimizer (FPO) feature on Linux with APAR IV28687. The FPO feature on AIX with APAR IV40108. An order must be placed for the FPO license.

  • Improved file and data management support

Version 3.4 enhancements:

  • Enhanced Windows cluster support:
    • Windows Servers 2008 R2 x64.
    • Directly attached disks support higher bandwidth via local I/O.
    • Homogeneous Windows clusters.

  • Further improvements in performance and scalability through extended file attributes and an increase in the number of files supported in a file system.

  • A new diagnostic command to better enable IBM Service to determine the state of your GPFS cluster.
