Overview

The IBM BladeCenter HX5 is a blade server designed to provide new levels of utilization, performance, and reliability for compute-intensive and memory-intensive workloads such as database, virtualization, business intelligence, modeling and simulation, and other enterprise applications.

Going beyond the industry standards with unique innovations from fifth-generation IBM X-Architecture® technology (eX5), the new IBM BladeCenter HX5 models deliver improved compute performance, memory footprint, and I/O bandwidth to enable new levels of utilization in a blade form factor for compute-intensive and memory-intensive enterprise workloads.

Selected models may be installed within traditional IBM BladeCenter chassis or the IBM zEnterprise BladeCenter Extension (zBX).

These new IBM BladeCenter HX5 models are configured with feature-rich Fibre Channel and Ethernet networking options, making them easy to order, configure, and deploy.

Existing customers of IBM SmartCloud Control Desk, IBM Workload Automation, and IBM Application Performance Management who are active on software subscription and support, can now leverage their applicable licenses to move to a software as a service (SaaS) delivery for the product at a discounted rate. This allows you to continue to use your software licenses, but have IBM provide the servers, network infrastructure, operating system, middleware, backup, security, and all other aspects of delivering services through the SaaS environment.

Enhancements to IBM GDPS®

In Version 3.11, GDPS has been enhanced with a number of new capabilities that address improved cross-platform support, enhanced availability, increased scalability, and simplified systems management. In addition, GDPS can now support a four-site configuration with the release of GDPS/Four Sites Symmetrical Metro Global Mirror. This capability allows four copies of data to be managed by GDPS across sites in a production region and a disaster recovery region, provides the ability to switch between regions, and provides customers with both high availability and disaster recovery in both regions.
