Overview

IBM Endpoint Manager for Mobile Devices

With the ever-growing number of smartphone options and the recent explosion of tablet computers, IT departments must find an efficient and secure way to enable employees' use of mobile devices in the work place. Services such as application management and security controls have been delivered by IT organizations for years, but mobile device platforms have unique management needs that disrupt the traditional paradigm. However, rather than implement a separate infrastructure solely for mobile devices, organizations may benefit from a single solution that effectively accounts for these unique needs while providing unified endpoint management.

IBM plans to enable enterprises to leverage the IBM Endpoint Manager infrastructure in order to secure and manage traditional endpoints as well as Apple iOS, Google Android, Symbian, and Microsoft Windows phone devices.

IBM SmartCloud Foundation

IBM SmartCloud Foundation is a set of capabilities which helps you more easily build and rapidly scale cloud environments with improved time-to-market, integration, and management.

IBM SmartCloud Monitoring, IBM SmartCloud Provisioning, IBM SmartCloud Control Desk, IBM SmartCloud Orchestrator, IBM SmartCloud Cost Management, and IBM Application Performance Manager are six planned offerings that are part of the IBM SmartCloud Foundation family of products.

IBM SmartCloud Monitoring

IBM SmartCloud Monitoring provides performance and availability capabilities as part of the SmartCloud Foundation. It is a holistic monitoring and capacity management solution for virtual and cloud environments.

As businesses consolidate and virtualize application workloads along their journey toward cloud, the cost savings that they had envisioned often prove elusive. True efficiency comes from the ability to right-size both the environment and the virtual workloads - in response to actual performance data, rather than theoretical estimates - in order to create an optimized cloud infrastructure that runs densely enough to provide true consolidation while maintaining application service levels and room for expansion.

Businesses want a cloud performance and availability product that can be plugged into their existing data center monitoring toolset, as part of an enterprise-proven, heterogeneous solution, to provide continuity of historical data and preservation of skills.

IBM plans to broaden the performance and availability capabilities of the SmartCloud Foundation by enhancing SmartCloud Monitoring with additional capabilities and platform coverage, in pace with businesses' cloud adoption plans, creating a seamless transition from physical to virtual to cloud service management.

IBM SmartCloud Provisioning

Today's businesses face an unparalleled rate of change. Many are turning to cloud computing as an approach that can help improve IT service delivery and increase utilization of resources while helping to reduce operating expenses.

Building a cloud starts with virtualizing your IT environment, but service management capabilities are key to managing and optimizing the cloud to drive real productivity gains. IBM SmartCloud Foundation technologies provide the capabilities to automate the management of virtual environments and build a dynamic service delivery model. The next planned release of IBM SmartCloud Provisioning may provide more value to businesses with new and enhanced SmartCloud Foundation capabilities in the area of management and administration.

These intended new capabilities include:

IBM intends to add new platform support for the Microsoft HyperV Server and IBM Power Virtual Machine that may also allow you to grow into more advanced cloud offerings.

IBM SmartCloud Control Desk

IBM SmartCloud Control Desk intends to provide a new and exciting way to deliver a comprehensive service management solution. This product is expected to replace and unify IBM Tivoli Service Request Manager®, IBM Tivoli Change and Configuration Management Database, IBM Tivoli Asset Management for IT, and IBM Tivoli Service Manager Quick Install.

This single product plans to deliver a solution for service catalog, service desk, and IT Infrastructure Library™ (ITIL™) V3 based processes for incident, problem, change, configuration, release, and IT asset management.

IBM SmartCloud Control Desk plans to provide:

IBM also plans to deliver to you and Business Partners a new option targeting the emerging and mid-tier markets called IBM SmartCloud Control Desk Entry Edition. This smaller, less complex edition is planned to provide the basic service desk and simple change management capabilities that these entry customers require.

Previews provide insight into IBM plans and direction. Availability, prices, ordering information, and terms and conditions will be provided when the product is announced. Planned availability for IBM SmartCloud Control Desk is first quarter, 2012.

IBM SmartCloud Orchestrator

As organizations look to integrate and optimize their cloud infrastructure, they need advanced cloud capabilities for automating the management of virtual environments and building a dynamic service delivery model. The ability to support user-driven services requests and orchestrated resource deployment is pivotal to an optimized infrastructure. The management of virtual environments and cloud deployments is enhanced with enterprise-level service management.

IBM Service Delivery Manager is a comprehensive service delivery platform for cloud environments that can help drive down costs and increase speed to deliver business services. IBM intends to change the name of IBM Service Delivery Manager to IBM SmartCloud Orchestrator, to better align the product within the IBM SmartCloud Foundation offering set.

As part of the SmartCloud Foundation, IBM SmartCloud Orchestrator (IBM Service Delivery Manager) provides advanced cloud capabilities for enterprises which need to integrate business policies and systems together in a customized cloud service via workflow orchestration.

IBM SmartCloud Foundation provides integrated cloud capabilities which gives you varying entry points to cloud computing. IBM continues to enhance how the SmartCloud Foundation capabilities are integrated based on the Open Services for LifeCycle Collaboration (OSLC) approach, to deliver an open and integrated cloud ecosystem.

IBM SmartCloud Cost Management

As end users from IT and non-IT organizations request cloud services, they need insight into the cost tied to specific SLAs of a dynamic service delivery. Service Providers and their financial organization need to understand the service delivery costs within and outside IT to maximize profitability of existing and new cloud offerings.

IBM Tivoli Usage and Accounting Manager (TUAM) provides a comprehensive financial cost management environment where you can collect, assess, and bill based on the usage and cost of the cloud service delivered. Today, IBM provides a powerful cloud cost management solution with IBM Service Delivery Manager utilizing TUAM to help drive down the cost to deliver business services. IBM intends to rebrand TUAM to SmartCloud Cost Management.

SmartCloud Cost Management provides value particularly as part of SmartCloud Orchestration, however it also integrates with lower entry solutions like SmartCloud Provisioning to provide cloud cost management metering and showback reporting. IBM continues to support financial management customers outside the cloud service management space and will continue to deliver new capabilities and benefits for such deployments.

IBM Application Performance Manager

The growing cloud computing model has created challenges for traditional performance and availability management practices. In traditional environments, customers rely on disciplines like root cause analysis. However, todays cloud administrator is focused on resilience and elasticity. In this new cloud model, application availability is an imperative, and performance shortcomings will directly affect a business' bottom line revenue.

IBM Application Performance Manager may extend the performance and availability capabilities of the IBM SmartCloud Foundation to include transaction tracing, monitoring of end-user performance, and prevention of transaction bottlenecks which cause performance degradations. With options of agent or agentless tracking combined together in a single topology view, IBM Application Performance Manager may be used by IT Operations or development teams, with the ability to specify the level of detailed analysis necessary. For improved time to value, IBM intends to deliver Web 2.0 based dashboards providing views targeted to specific user roles that provide actionable data for managing the health of applications, including out-of-the-box management of IBM middleware offerings in the business process management portfolio. IBM Application Performance Manager may enable the delivery and help optimize the performance of applications across physical, virtual, cloud and a mixed IT infrastructure.

Tivoli Workload Automation Suite

Effectively bringing new applications into production environments requires a stable process and advanced automation. With enterprise workload automation solution, you can fulfill these conditions. This solution must present the user with an intuitive interface without the full complexity of the process in order to qualify as a tool that enables end users to submit jobs.

Service catalog and request user interface for business users

IBM plans to deliver a new interface to its Tivoli Workload Automation suite dedicated for end users who want to translate business needs into IT actions immediately and remain in control of the progress of execution. This interface allows you to present the possible automated requests as a service catalog and to maintain such a catalog.

Application plug-ins for natural workload automation

In order to simplify usability, IBM plans to deliver application plug-ins to seamlessly create IBM InfoSphere® DataStage® and IBM Cognos® data extraction and reporting jobs. These plug-ins let you create a job with the use of dedicated panels and fields to be completed as well as buttons that check the validity of field content and syntax.

Collaboration with SAP event system

IBM plans to enhance the existing integration between Tivoli Workload Automation and SAP systems with a complete handling of interception, and of the circulation of events between SAP and Tivoli systems. IBM intends to enhance the Tivoli Workload Automation user interface to present interception and events in more detail, and to allow direct access to these details from IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS® installations.

Future cloud capabilities

Service management extensions for hybrid cloud

Increasing numbers of businesses leveraging public clouds are looking for extensible usage accounting framework to track the consumption of public cloud resources. They need data of various granularity levels to account for who uses those resources, and correlate the cost of the projects deployed on the public cloud.

As part of a SmartCloud Foundation, IBM plans to integrate usage and accounting capabilities into the hybrid cloud environment to enable businesses to factor in public cloud usage data in a centralized and cohesive way of accounting.

IBM also plans to deliver new hybrid integration technologies based on the Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC) approach to promote an open integrated cloud ecosystem, as part of the SmartCloud Foundation. These technologies are being designed to enable cloud service providers to participate in the cloud ecosystem to an open cloud abstraction model that supports interoperability in a heterogeneous environment that encompasses both private and public clouds.

Collaborative development and operations

To deliver business solutions more rapidly while still maintaining high quality, organizations will require their environment to have continuous delivery and deployment of their solutions. Organizations need to be able to standardize and automate their delivery and deployment to demonstrate the business agility that the IT industry is calling DevOps.

IBM plans to provide an extensible architecture for delivering and managing the entire application lifecycle, creating an environment that brings development and operation teams together with collaboration, automation, and analysis.

This strategy may include delivery of new technologies while exploiting the existing products that are key to the successful delivery of business solutions today. Designed to leverage existing IBM Cloud technologies with standardized environments and processes, DevOps may help ensure the repeatability of production-like environments from early development phases to production deployments.

Tivoli System Automation Suite

IBM Tivoli System Automation solutions for end-to-end application automation currently provide high availability for applications across heterogenous and virtualized environments. IBM plans to enhance this capability with full support of the new zEnterprise™ APIs regardless of where the application components run within the zEnterprise ensembles. IBM intends to provide advanced policy-based automation rules to enable stop/start/move of application components within the zEnterprise system. IBM also plans to provide high availability and resiliency of application components. In addition, IBM plans to extend the scope of Tivoli System Automation Application Manager to provide the capability to control virtual servers. New automation scenarios that include both application and virtual server automation can then be performed.
