Statement of direction: Updated code delivery and support model for IBM MQ and additional support for disaster recovery configurations in IBM MQ ApplianceIBM United States Software Announcement 216-084

Previously, IBM® MQ deferred the addition of significant new function to major new releases of the product. Minor feature improvements are combined with defect fixes and delivered as fix pack updates. IBM intends that a future version of IBM MQ will offer a new delivery and support model, which separates out the delivery of defect fixes from any new function. Licensed clients of IBM MQ will be able to choose to consume IBM MQ through a Long Term Support model that contains the latest features at the time of general availability, with only defect fixes provided during the support cycle. An additional choice of a Continuous Delivery model will be offered where new function is delivered incrementally alongside defect fixes in much more frequent, modification-level updates. To maintain support, clients on this Continuous Delivery model will need to keep their IBM MQ environment up to date with the Continuous Delivery modification levels rather than the Long Term Support fix packs.
The IBM MQ Appliance currently supports asynchronous replication between appliances that can be used for disaster recovery over long distances. These distances can be longer than those supported by the appliance-to-appliance, high availability, synchronous replication. Currently, users of the IBM MQ Appliance are required to determine whether the IBM MQ Queue Manager participates in either synchronous replication or asynchronous replication, but not both. IBM intends that a future update will enable IBM MQ Queue Managers on the IBM MQ Appliance to be configured to perform both synchronous and asynchronous replication at the same time.
