Overview
Bottom rule

Rational Engineering Lifecycle Manager enhances the Rational solution for systems and software engineering by enabling you to visualize, analyze, and organize systems product engineering data coming from many tools. Engineering teams can get a better understanding of the relationships in that data, to help make more effective and timely engineering decisions.

Rational Engineering Lifecycle Manager uses Rational Jazz™ integration services to increase the visibility and value of engineering data.

It can help you do the following:

Rational Engineering Lifecycle Manager indexes engineering data and makes the data available through custom role, product, process, and project views while honoring the security access settings on the data that it indexes.

Compared to alternative integration techniques, this federated, indexed approach has the potential to simplify deployment time and effort as well as reduce the runtime impact on engineering tools and the teams using them.

For ordering, contact your IBM® representative, an IBM Business Partner, or IBM Americas Call Centers at 800-IBM-CALL (Reference: AE001).

Description
Bottom rule

Rational Engineering Lifecycle Manager V4.0.3 incorporates usability improvements, including the following:

These changes result in overall improved ease of use with reduced time to value and ability to deploy to a wider geographic base.

In addition, impact analysis improvements result in better support for Engineering Change Order (ECO) workflows and generation of traceability matrices. They include the following:

A product definition capability enables users to organize lifecycle engineering data according to the products, systems, sub-systems, capabilities, and components being created.

Rational Engineering Lifecycle Manager V4.0.3 offers increased data protection, scalability, and performance for all database-intensive operations which, based on IBM DB2® technology, is designed to manage data more effectively and efficiently. In addition, the increased scalability and the ability to use the latest in server technology helps deliver increased performance of backup and recovery processes.

Rational Engineering Lifecycle Manager indexes product engineering data created and managed in Rational DOORS , Rational Rhapsody® Design Manager, Rational Quality Manager, and Rational Team Concert™ . When MathWorks Simulink artifacts are used with the Rational Rhapsody Design Manager, Simulink artifacts can participate in the index as well.

Engineering data created by homegrown tools and other vendors have the potential to be indexed. Lightweight connectors are needed for this purpose.

A web-based system offers a portal into the indexed data, typically by using customized, predefined views to display the latest information from the index. These custom views could be role, product, process, or project perspectives.

In addition, a visual impact analysis facility can help cross-disciplinary teams work together to understand the impact of proposed changes to the requirements or design.

For more information about the Rational solution for system and software engineering and Rational Engineering Lifecycle Manager, contact your IBM sales representative or IBM Business Partner.
