Advanced Entry Workload License Charges offers price/performance
for the IBM zEnterprise z114

Coinciding with the announcement of the IBM® zEnterprise™ 114 (z114) server, IBM introduces
a new software pricing structure called Advanced Entry Workload License Charges
(AEWLC). The AEWLC pricing metric leverages the reporting mechanisms and existing
Millions of Service Units per hour (MSU) tiers of the Entry Workload License
Charges (EWLC) pricing metric and the Midrange Workload License Charges (MWLC)
pricing metric while extending the software price/performance provided by
EWLC and MWLC. AEWLC applies only to eligible z/OS®, z/TPF, and z/VSE™ operating systems and their associated
middleware programs when running on a z114 server. For details, refer to the Programs eligible for AEWLC section. EWLC and MWLC
are not available for a single, standalone z114 server.
Benefits of AEWLC can include:
- Reducing prices versus EWLC
- Improving unit costs, versus EWLC, for eligible monthly license charges
(MLC) for IBM z/OS and
middleware programs with more than 315 MSUs
- Reducing prices versus MWLC above three MSUs
- Offering sub-capacity or full-capacity implementation
- Exploiting Integrated Workload Pricing (IWP) enhancements to sub-capacity
pricing for eligible z/OS workloads

If you are operating a z114 in an actively coupled Parallel Sysplex®, you may elect
aggregated Advanced Workload License Charges (AWLC) pricing or aggregated Parallel
Sysplex License Charges (PSLC) pricing, subject to all applicable terms
and conditions. If you select aggregated pricing, then AEWLC and Tiered Entry
Workload License Charges (TWLC) pricing metrics do not apply.
For actively coupled Parallel Sysplexes with a mix of System z® hardware
technologies (one or more z114 servers with one or more System z10® Enterprise
Class (z10™ EC), System
z9® Enterprise Class (z9™ EC), System z10 Business Class (z10 BC), or System z9 Business Class (z9 BC) servers),
the AWLC Transition Charges for Sysplexes program provides aggregated Variable
Workload License Charges (VWLC) pricing along with a reduction in VWLC as
you upgrade machines to z114 or IBM zEnterprise 196 (z196) servers.
Aggregated AWLC pricing is not available for actively coupled Parallel Sysplexes
until all of the servers in the sysplex are upgraded to z114 or z196 servers.

Advanced Entry Workload License Charges (AEWLC) is a monthly license charge
price metric available for eligible software programs running on an IBM zEnterprise 114
(z114) server. AEWLC applies to z/OS operating system software and many
of its associated middleware software programs, such as CICS®, DB2®, and IMS™. AEWLC also
applies to the z/TPF and z/VSE operating systems and associated middleware software
programs.

Similar to Entry Workload License Charges (EWLC) and Midrange Workload
License Charges (MWLC), AEWLC may be implemented in full-capacity or sub-capacity
mode.
Similar to Advanced Workload License Charges (AWLC), AEWLC is eligible
for Integrated Workload Pricing (IWP), an enhancement to the sub-capacity
utilization reporting capabilities of systems running IBM z/OS, which can improve the price/performance
for eligible Monthly License Charge (MLC) programs running within the same
LPAR as select defining programs.
For the z/OS operating
system environment, in conjunction with software programs implemented with
AEWLC:
- Programs having Tiered Entry Workload License Charges (TWLC) will continue
to be charged using TWLC. These programs have one flat monthly charge per IBM System
z server, based on a tiered structure.
- System
z New Application License Charges (zNALC) and Select Application License
Charges (SALC) remain available for their respective eligible programs under
their respective terms and conditions on machines with AEWLC pricing.
For the z/VSE operating
system environment, you may choose between AEWLC and TWLC. AEWLC may be sub-capacity
or full-capacity. TWLC is always full-capacity. AEWLC would typically be selected
since it offers more attractive price/performance. Once AEWLC is selected,
all eligible z/VSE middleware
will also be priced using AEWLC.
Pricing structure
Each AEWLC-eligible software program has a monthly license charge based
on a cumulative price structure with multiple levels.
Advanced Entry Workload License Charges (AEWLC)
Base charge: Includes up to 3 MSUs
Level 1 4 - 17 MSUs
Level 2 18 - 30 MSUs
Level 3 31 - 45 MSUs
Level 4 46 - 87 MSUs
Level 5 88 - 175 MSUs
Level 6 176 - 260 MSUs
Level 7 261 - 315 MSUs
Level 8 316 - more MSUs
Alternatives to AEWLC for aggregated Parallel
Sysplex pricing
AEWLC is not eligible for aggregated pricing. However, for actively coupled
Parallel Sysplexes, aggregation of product MSUs across multiple z114 servers
is allowed. In order to qualify for aggregated pricing, you must comply with
the actively coupled Parallel Sysplex definition rules as defined
in the Attachment for IBM System z Advanced Workload License Charges (Z125-8538)
or the Exhibit - Parallel Sysplex License Charges (Z125-5206)
and must have z/OS licensed
and running in z/Architecture® (64-bit)
mode on each of the z114 and other servers in the Parallel Sysplex.
When a z114 server is operating in an actively coupled Parallel
Sysplex environment:
- AWLC is available as an alternative charge metric for eligible software
programs running on multiple servers in an actively coupled Parallel
Sysplex, which includes only z114 or z196 servers, subject to all applicable
AWLC terms and conditions. AWLC is not available for stand-alone z114 servers.
Also, in conjunction with AWLC, programs having Flat Workload License Charges
(FWLC) will be charged using FWLC.
- For actively coupled Parallel Sysplexes with a mix of System z hardware
technologies (one or more z114 or z196 servers along with one or more z10 EC, z9 EC, z10 BC,
or z9 BC
servers), the Transition Charges for Sysplexes program, as defined in the
AWLC attachment, provides aggregated VWLC pricing along with a reduction in
VWLC as you upgrade machines to z114 or z196 servers. VWLC is not available
for stand-alone z114 servers. Also, in conjunction with VWLC, programs having
FWLC will be charged using FWLC.
- Parallel
Sysplex License Charges (PSLC) is available as an alternative charge
metric for eligible software programs running on multiple servers in an actively
coupled Parallel
Sysplex, which includes one or more z114 servers, subject to all applicable
PSLC terms and conditions. PSLC is not available for stand-alone z114 servers.
- AEWLC and TWLC charge metrics may be selected for z114 servers participating
in a Parallel
Sysplex, but AEWLC is not eligible for aggregated pricing and TWLC products
do not aggregate MSUs.
Transition Charges for Sysplexes program
For actively coupled Parallel Sysplexes with a mix of System z hardware
technologies (one or more z114 or z196 servers with one or more System z10 Enterprise
Class (z10 EC), System
z9 Enterprise Class (z9 EC), System z10 Business Class (z10 BC), or System z9 Business Class (z9 BC) servers),
the AWLC Transition Charges for Sysplexes program provides aggregated VWLC
pricing along with a reduction in VWLC as you upgrade machines to z114 or
z196 servers. This reduction provides a portion of the price/performance benefit
related to AWLC pricing based on the proportion of z114 or z196 server capacity
in the Parallel
Sysplex.
The number of MSUs used to determine both the total MSUs for the Parallel
Sysplex and z114 or z196 server proportion of MSUs are based on the announced IBM full-capacity
ratings that can be found on the Mainframe Exhibits section of the System z Software
Contracts website at

To find the percentage of AWLC-eligible full capacity MSUs:
- Add the total MSUs of all the machines in the sysplex.
- Divide the sum of the z114 and z196 MSUs by the total MSUs in the sysplex.
- The result of the calculation must be rounded to the nearest whole percent.
Using standard rounding rules, fractions of a percent of 0.5 or more are rounded
up and fractions of a percent less than 0.5 are rounded down. Rounding examples:
- 0.204999 rounds down to 20%
- 0.205000 rounds up to 21%
- 0.404999 rounds down to 40%
- 0.405000 rounds up to 41%
- Refer to the schedule of VWLC discounts to determine the applicable discount.
