Overview
Bottom rule

WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition delivers a managed file transfer solution for moving files with auditability, visibility, and reliability across a broad range of platforms.

On distributed platforms, WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition includes a copy of WebSphere MQ. This entitles full use of the WebSphere MQ messaging functionality for traditional messaging applications such as JMS as well as file transfers across the same infrastructure, reducing the cost of managing and maintaining separate infrastructures for message and file data.

Trade-up licenses are available for existing clients who want to upgrade from WebSphere MQ to WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition. Clients who upgrade can continue to use the full messaging capabilities of the copy of WebSphere MQ that is supplied with WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition. WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition provides a multipurpose connectivity solution for moving both files and messages.

WebSphere MQ for z/OS® is a prerequisite for WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition for z/OS. A separate license of WebSphere MQ for z/OS is required for this product when running under z/OS on the IBM System z® platform.

Organizations can use WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition to reduce and consolidate the infrastructure needed to move their files and messages onto a single, reliable transport capable of handling both kinds of traffic. Using a single reliable backbone can help achieve these operational efficiencies by reducing the need to deploy and manage separate parallel networks for messages and files. It also enables batch-driven file-based systems to interact in an event-driven, real-time fashion by converting files into messages and vice versa. WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition enables clients to readily and easily bring files into enterprise service buses (ESB) to provide a modern, service-oriented architecture (SOA) approach to leveraging file data and integrating it with heterogeneous environments.

Description
Bottom rule

IBM WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition V7.0 delivers a managed file transfer solution for moving files regardless of their size. It provides a managed file transfer service that leverages the WebSphere MQ backbone to enable movement of files in a managed way with auditability, visibility, and reliability.

WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition delivers an SOA-ready, managed file transfer solution that can replace "home-grown" and FTP-based approaches to file movement.

WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition delivers rich, managed file transfer services with these characteristics:

  • Reliable: Leverages the proven WebSphere MQ messaging backbone as its reliable transport mechanism for moving files. Ensures file data arrives once and only once, eliminating the possibility of partially transmitted files arriving and corrupting downstream business processes.
  • Ad hoc: Supports person-to-application transfers via standard web protocols (HTTP and HTTPS), enabling managed file transfers via browsers. Sample Web 2.0 applications help accelerate the deployment of customized ad hoc transfer applications.
  • No single point of failure: Deployed and previously scheduled file transfers can continue to operate even when coordination queue managers are unavailable.
  • Scalable: Innovative transfer protocol enables efficient delivery of files regardless of size with no limits on file size, enabling multiple files or directories to be moved with just a single command.
  • Process-enabled: Supports complex, multi-step transfers that can be distributed across different platforms, can be scripted using industry standard XML and executed by ANT processes that capture standard in and standard out information to the audit log, can execute based on complex conditional logic, including dependencies between transfers based on outcomes, and can execute custom applications.
  • RESTful API: Enables application developers to use simple RESTful verbs to enable web services and applications for file transfers, with support for Java™ Platform Enterprise Edition 5-compliant application servers (not provided) such as WebSphere Application Server.
  • Optimized for high performance: Transfers optimized ready for immediate use for typical network configurations and customizable to tune for specific environments such as very lossy networks.
  • Customizable: Multiple exit points both pre- and post-transfer for custom processing that is managed as part of the transfer operation.
  • Easy to use: Simple, intuitive graphical tooling enables remote configuration, monitoring, and deployment of transfers without the need for programming or understanding of underlying WebSphere MQ infrastructure.
  • Auditable: Comprehensive log records file movements from end-to-end, helping organizations demonstrate that sensitive, mission-critical business data is transferred with integrity from source to target file system.
  • Transport bridging: Supports bridging to FTP and SFTP (SSH) servers and now to IBM Sterling Connect:Direct.
  • Integrated with ESBs: Supports direct integration with WebSphere Message Broker for streamed ESB mediation, transformation, and enrichment, with the business-to-business (B2B) Gateway provided by IBM WebSphere DataPower® B2B Appliance XB60, and now IBM Sterling Connect:Direct.

Integration with IBM Sterling Connect:Direct

This update adds the ability for managed file transfer solutions to bridge from WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition to existing IBM Sterling Connect:Direct environments. This new capability enables IBM's clients to leverage their combined investments in both WebSphere MQ and Connect:Direct infrastructure for mission-critical managed file transfer throughout their organization.

Many thousands of organizations worldwide rely on WebSphere for their mission-critical data movement and Sterling Connect:Direct for file transfers with trading partners and within their organization. Clients are seeking ways to leverage and combine their existing investments in middleware infrastructure, developed solutions, and skills. Typically, WebSphere MQ environments are owned and managed by a centralized integration team responsible for messaging, connectivity, and ESB technologies within and throughout the organization. Connect:Direct is typically owned by B2B organizations used for trading partner interactions as well as batch-oriented file transfers internally. Increasingly, IT organizations are recognizing the value of combining their external and internal facing teams and solutions. Drivers include:

  • Rationalization of overlapping infrastructure
  • Demand for increased responsiveness by becoming more event-driven
  • Need to leverage file data more broadly across enterprises by file-enabling their ESB
  • Strategic alignment of infrastructure to reduce costs and time of end-to-end business processes
  • Increased ability to apply common methodologies and tools across B2B and internal IT environment

Connect:Direct Bridge

This update enables clients to combine their WebSphere MQ and Connect:Direct investments, enabling managed file transfers across both data movement domains. Clients now have increased freedom to select the most appropriate, optimal, and cost-effective data movement solution for specific IT projects, whilst being able to combine their transport domains to provide end-to-end reliability and visibility.

This update provides a new bridge capability that enables managed file transfers into and out of existing Connect:Direct networks.

The Connect:Direct bridge is supported on selected distributed platforms only. Refer to the Connect:Direct bridge prerequisites listed in the Specified operating environment section.

The Connect:Direct bridge is included with WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition. The Connect:Direct bridge enables files to be exchanged between FTE agents and Connect:Direct nodes, and supports the following scenarios:

  • Use WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition to initiate a transfer of one or more files, from an FTE agent to a Connect:Direct node.
  • Use WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition to initiate a transfer of one or more files, from a Connect:Direct node to an FTE agent.

This update expands the tooling supplied with FTE to enable the user to define Connect:Direct nodes as the source or target of a managed file transfer, and to specify the Connect:Direct bridge agent to use.

This update expands the comprehensive audit trail with details of file transfers that traverse Connect:Direct networks using the new Connect:Direct bridge capability. Information regarding the process and outcome of the Connect:Direct portion of transfers is automatically captured and added to the centralized transfer log of WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition. The WebSphere MQ Explorer tooling with the File Transfer Edition plug-ins now also displays the outcome of the Connect:Direct portion of file transfers that travel through the Connect:Direct bridge. This enables end-to-end visibility of transfers controlled by WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition that span the WebSphere MQ and Connect:Direct domains.

This update expands the InfoCenter with documentation describing how to use the new Connect:Direct bridge to transfer files to and from existing Connect:Direct environments.

Value Unit-based pricing

Value Unit pricing for eligible IBM System z IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA) programs enables a lower cost of incremental growth and enterprise aggregation. Each System z IPLA product with Value Unit pricing has a single price per Value Unit and a conversion matrix, called Value Unit Exhibit, for converting from some designated measurement to Value Units. Most commonly, Millions of Service Units (MSUs) is the measurement designated by IBM to be converted to Value Units. Some other measurements are engines or messages. Since MSUs are the most common measurement, that measurement will be used for the remainder of this description.

Value Unit pricing offers price benefits for you. For each System z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Each of the various Value Unit Exhibits stipulate that the larger your required license capacity, the fewer Value Units per MSU you will need. Value Unit Exhibits are uniquely identified by a three-digit code and referred to using the nomenclature VUExxx, where xxx is the three-digit code.

Subsequent acquisitions of Value Unit priced programs offer additional price benefits. The quantity of each System z IPLA program that you have acquired is referred to as entitled license capacity. If you want to grow your entitled license capacity for a System z IPLA program, the calculation to determine additional needed Value Units is based upon the number of Value Units already acquired.

For each System z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, you should:

  • Determine the required license capacity, in MSUs
  • Aggregate the MSUs across the enterprise
  • Convert the total MSUs to Value Units, using the applicable Value Unit Exhibit
  • Multiply the price per Value Unit by the total number of Value Units to determine the total cost

To simplify conversion from the designated measurement to Value Units or vice-versa, use the Value Unit Converter Tool. For additional information or to obtain a copy of the Value Unit Converter Tool, visit the Value Unit Converter Tool website

http://ibm.com/zseries/swprice/vuctool

Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Units of another product.

To determine the required license capacity for the System z IPLA program you selected, refer to the Terms and conditions section.

Processor Value Unit

Processor Value Unit (PVU) is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU Table by processor value, brand, type, and model number) at the following website and by the number of processors made available to the program

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html

IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores.

Licensee can deploy the program using either Full Capacity licensing or Virtualization Capacity (Sub-Capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (see webpage below). If using Full Capacity licensing, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores1 in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using Virtualization Capacity licensing, Licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/Counting_Software_licenses_using_specific_virtualization_technologies.html
1
An Activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.

Notes:

Some programs may require licenses for the program and what is being managed. In that case, the following applies: In addition to the entitlements required for the program directly, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.

Some programs may be licensed on a managed basis only. In that case, the following applies: Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.

A few programs on an exception basis may be licensed on a referenced basis. In that case, the following applies: Rather than obtaining entitlements for the activated processor cores available to the program, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the environment made available to the referenced program as if the program itself were executing everywhere the referenced program was executing, independent of the basis on which the referenced program is licensed.

Express and Workgroup programs may be licensed with maximum use terms. In that case, the following applies: The maximum authorized use terms and conditions for PVU licensed IBM Express and Middleware Programs can be found in the IBM Express and Middleware Licensing Guide.

Client Device

Client Device is the unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A Client Device is a single user computing device or special purpose sensor or telemetry device that requests the execution of or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from or provides data to another computer system that is typically referred to as a server or is otherwise managed by the server. Multiple Client Devices may share access to a common server. A Client Device may have some processing capability or be programmable to allow a user to do work.

Examples include, but are not limited to actuators, appliances, automated teller machines, automated meter reading, cash registers, disk drives, desktop computers, kiosks, notebook computers, personal digital assistant, point-of-sale terminals, sensors, smart meters, tape drives, and technical workstations.

Licensee must obtain entitlements for every Client Device which runs, provides data to, uses services provided by, or otherwise accesses the program and for every other computer or server on which the program is installed.

Web Gateway

WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition V7.0.3 added a new web transfer capability enabled component called the Web Gateway, which is deployed alongside a suitable, supported JEE Application Server. WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition Server licenses are required wherever the Web Gateway component is deployed, regardless of whether other program components are also used on a given machine. This license includes the entitlement to deploy the Extended Transactional Client component of WebSphere MQ, as supplied with the program.

Entitlements for WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition Server are required in order to use the Web Gateway component supplied with the program. Entitlements for WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition Clients are not sufficient to use the Web Gateway. In that case, licenses for WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition Server must be acquired.

No product licenses are required in order to connect web applications and web browsers into the Web Gateway.

The z/OS program in this announcement has Value Unit-based pricing.

Ordering example

The total number of Value Units is calculated according to the following example.

If your required license capacity is 1,500 MSUs for your selected System z IPLA product, the applicable Value Units would be:

Translation from MSUs to Value Units

          MSUs * Value Units/MSU = Value Units
Base 3 * 1.00 = 3.00
Tier A 42 * .45 = 18.90
Tier B 130 * .36 = 46.80
Tier C 140 * .27 = 37.80
Tier D 1,185 * .20 = 237.00

Total 1,500 343.50

When calculating the total number of Value Units, the sum is to be rounded up to the next integer.

Subscription and Support

To receive voice technical support via telephone and future releases and versions at no additional charge, Subscription and Support must be ordered. The capacity of Subscription and Support (Value Units) must be the same as the capacity ordered for the product licenses.

To order, specify the Subscription and Support program number (PID) referenced above and the appropriate license or charge option.

IBM is also providing Subscription and Support for these products via a separately purchased offering under the terms of the IBM International Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance. This offering:

  • Includes and extends the support services provided in the base support to include technical support via telephone.
  • Entitles you to future releases and versions, at no additional charge. Note that you are not entitled to new products.

When Subscription and Support is ordered, the charges will automatically renew annually unless cancelled by you.

The combined effect of the IPLA license and the Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance gives you rights and support services comparable to those under the traditional ICA S/390® and System z license or its equivalent. To ensure that you continue to enjoy the level of support you are used to in the ICA business model, you must order both the license for the program and the support for the selected programs at the same Value Unit quantities.

Single version charging

To elect single version charging, you must notify and identify to IBM the prior program and replacement program, and the machine the programs are operating on.

Customized Offerings

Product deliverables are shipped only via CBPDO, ServerPac, SystemPac®.

CBPDO and ServerPac are offered for Internet delivery in countries where ShopzSeries product ordering is available. Internet delivery reduces software delivery time and allows you to install software without the need to handle tapes. For more details on Internet delivery, refer to the ShopzSeries help information at

http://www.software.ibm.com/ShopzSeries

You choose the delivery method when you order the software. IBM recommends Internet delivery. In addition to Internet and DVD, the supported tape delivery options for CBPDO, ServerPac, and SystemPac, include:

  • 3590
  • 3592

Most products can be ordered in ServerPac and SystemPac the month following their availability on CBPDO. z/OS can be ordered via all three offerings at general availability. Production of software product orders will begin on the planned general availability date.

  • CBPDO shipments will begin one week after general availability.
  • ServerPac shipments will begin two weeks after general availability
  • SystemPac shipments will begin four weeks after general availability due to additional customization, and data input verification.

Sub-capacity terms and conditions

For each System z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Your required license capacity is based upon the following factors:

  • The System z IPLA program you select
  • The applicable Value Unit Exhibit
  • The applicable terms
  • Whether your current mainframes are full capacity or sub-capacity

For more information on the Value Unit Exhibit for the System z IPLA program you selected, refer to the Ordering information section.

5655-U80 WebSphere MQ File Execution based
            Transfer Edition
            for z/OS V7.0.4

Full-capacity mainframes

In cases where full capacity is applicable, the following terms apply.

Execution based, z/OS based, full machine based: The required capacity of a System z IPLA program with these terms equals the MSU-rated capacity of the machines where the System z IPLA program executes.

For more information on mainframe MSU-rated capacities, visit

http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver/zseries/library/swpriceinfo/

Reference based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC) program. This MLC program is called the parent program.

Sub-capacity mainframes

In cases where sub-capacity is applicable, the following terms apply.

Execution based: The required capacity of a System z IPLA sub-capacity program with these terms equals the capacity of the LPARs where the System z IPLA program executes.

z/OS based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of z/OS on the machines where the System z IPLA program executes.

Reference based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC) program. This MLC program is called the parent program.

Full machine based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA program with full machine based terms equals the MSU-rated capacity of the machines where the System z IPLA program executes.

For more information on mainframe MSU-rated capacities, refer to The IBM System z Machines Exhibit, Z125-3901, or visit the Mainframes section of the System z Exhibits website

http://ibm.com/zseries/library/swpriceinfo/

For additional information for products with reference-based terms, System z IPLA sub-capacity programs with reference-based terms adds value to the parent program across the environment, regardless of where in the environment the System z IPLA program executes.

An environment is defined as either a single or stand-alone machine or a qualified Parallel Sysplex®. You may have one or more different environments across the enterprise. To determine the required license capacity for each System z IPLA program with referenced-based terms, each environment should be assessed separately.

When a System z IPLA sub-capacity program with reference-based terms is used in a qualified Parallel Sysplex environment, the required license capacity of the System z IPLA program must equal with the license capacity of the parent program across the Parallel Sysplex. Qualified Parallel Sysplex refers to one:

  • Where MLC pricing is aggregated across the sysplex
Sub-capacity eligibility

To be eligible for sub-capacity charging on select System z IPLA programs, you must first implement and comply with all terms of either sub-capacity Workload License Charges (WLC) or sub-capacity Entry Workload License Charges (EWLC). To implement sub-capacity WLC or EWLC, a machine must be System z (or equivalent). On that machine:

  • All instances of the OS/390® operating system must be migrated to the z/OS operating systems.
  • Any licenses for the OS/390 operating system must be discontinued
  • All instances of the z/OS operating systems must be running in z/Architecture® (64-bit) mode.

For that machine, you must create and submit a Sub-Capacity Report to IBM each month. Sub-Capacity Reports must be generated using the Sub-Capacity Reporting Tool (SCRT). For additional information or to obtain a copy of SCRT, visit the System z Software Pricing website

http://ibm.com/zseries/swprice

You must comply with all of the terms of the WLC or EWLC offering, whichever is applicable:

  • The complete terms and conditions of sub-capacity WLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement - Attachment for System z Workload License Charges (Z125-6516).
  • The complete terms and conditions for sub-capacity EWLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement - Attachment for IBM System z 890 and 800 License Charges (Z125-6587).

Additionally, you must sign and comply with the terms and conditions specified in the amendment to the IPLA contract - Amendment for IBM System z9® and System z Programs Sub-Capacity Pricing (Z125-6929). Once the amendment is signed, the terms in the amendment replace any and all previous System z IPLA sub-capacity terms and conditions.

Sub-capacity utilization determination

Sub-capacity utilization is determined based on the product's own execution as reported to IBM in accordance with the requirements for reporting sub-capacity utilization for products.

On/Off Capacity on Demand (CoD)

To be eligible for On/Off CoD pricing, you must be enabled for temporary capacity on the corresponding hardware, and the required contract, Attachment for IBM System z On/Off Capacity on Demand (Z125-7883) must be signed prior to use.

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
