Overview
Bottom rule

IBM Business Monitor V7.5 (formerly IBM WebSphere Business Monitor) is a comprehensive business activity monitoring (BAM) software offering that is tightly integrated with the IBM middleware portfolio of IBM Business Process Manager (IBM BPM), BRMS1, SOA2. and transactional solutions.

Built-in tooling support and run-time event hooks for products including, but not limited to, IBM Integration Designer, WebSphere ILOG® JRules BRMS, WebSphere Message Broker, IBM BPM, and IBM CICS®, plus the ability to monitor third-party application events, allows IT to provide business users and managers with an end-to-end, real-time, and historical view of their entire business operation at any level of detail. IBM Business Monitor V7.5 provides customizable dashboards that calculate and display key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics derived from business transactions, processes, business activity data, and business events.

Business users can view these KPIs, metrics, and alerts through various means including lightweight web interfaces, mobile devices, and corporate portals, and can drill into specific transaction and process instances. These capabilities offer business users and managers immediate actionable information and insight into their business operations to mitigate problems or take advantage of opportunities.

IBM Business Monitor enables IT to empower their business to increase revenue and reduce costs:

  • Increase revenue: Real-time operational visibility may increase sales by, for example, identifying business opportunities early to gain competitive advantage, and improving customer satisfaction through improved customer service and faster operational response times.
  • Reduce costs: Real-time operational visibility may decrease costs by, for example, ensuring critical business processes meet commitments to customers, identifying inefficiencies in processes, ensuring key business metrics meet targets, or improving operational planning based on volume analysis.

IBM Business Monitor implementations are relatively low cost and low risk, and provide a relatively high return on investment:

  • Low risk: Mission-critical systems and process flows are not "changing." IT is simply instrumenting systems that are already in place or being developed.
  • Low cost: Most implementations take 3-6 months with 2-3 IT developers.
  • High return on investment: Studies show high quantifiable IT value delivered to IT budget.

IBM Business Monitor significantly reduces the time and cost needed to implement a Business Intelligence solution for IBM middleware customers:

  • The combination of built-in tooling and runtime event/message collection support for the IBM middleware portfolio of products along with the seamless integration of IBM Cognos Business Intelligence provides for a replacement of the traditional Extract Transform Load data warehousing process, saving IT significant time and cost.

New capabilities in IBM Business Monitor V7.5:

  • Improved tooling and run-time support for monitoring of IBM Business Process Manager (the follow on product to WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere Lombardi Edition), including playback support and IBM Process Center integration.
  • Cognos Business Intelligence V10.1.0.1 for advanced analysis and reporting on historical data are seamlessly integrated into Monitor's installation, monitor model development, administration and business user experience - No Cognos experience needed.
  • Fine-grained security for dimensional, KPI, and instance data enable or prevent anyone, based on any category, to see any information depth or detail.
  • Enhanced business user customization of data filtering and dashboard controls & reports.
  • A single monitor model may now execute concurrently on all members of a cluster, providing for significant scalability improvements resulting in much higher rates of events that can be processed per second.
  • Includes a tooling wizard for easier correlation of events across processes that include sub-processes.
  • A number of deployment and operational improvements include:
    • High-performance purging of unwanted data for improved overall performance
    • A utility to help administrators consolidate old monitor model versions and associated data over to a new monitor model version
    • A documented Disaster Recovery strategy that describes how to back up Monitor data so that your customer can quickly restore their system

Description

IBM Business Monitor V7.5 delivers real-time, end-to-end business operations, transactions, and process monitoring for IBM middleware infrastructure.

New accelerated development of end-to-end business monitoring solutions

IBM Business Monitor V7.5 continues to make it easier for IT to provide their business with the real-time and historical business information they require. With built-in tooling and run-time support already in place for WebSphere ILOG JRules, IBM adapters, CICS, IMS™, Filenet P8, WebSphere Business Events, WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus, WebSphere Message Broker, WebSphere MQ Workflow, IBM BPM, and WebSphere Sensor Events, IBM Business Monitor V7.5 now adds:

  • Auto-generation of a complete monitor model and Dashboard for IBM BPM Standard -- For those customers who have a current or future need to monitor information outside of their Standard Edition-generated processes, IBM Business Monitor now provides a turnkey, yet customable, dashboard experience that is stored in Process Center. No Integration Designer is needed.
  • Accelerated dashboards for IBM BPM Advanced. Events from both BPEL and BPMN engines carry the instance identifiers that are needed for cross-engine correlation, making it easier to create the monitor model that will follow each process from start to finish (including any sub-processes). Users can drill down to see activity status, user assignments, and so on, as well as see all the business level information against which the process is executing.

New integrated and embedded Cognos Business Intelligence V10.1.0.1

  • The combination of built-in tooling and runtime event/message collection support for the IBM middleware portfolio of products along with the seamless integration of Cognos Business Intelligence provides for a replacement of the traditional Extract Transform Load datawarehousing process. This saves IT significant time and cost when implementing a Business Intelligence solution for an IBM middleware-based enterprise architecture.
  • Cognos' advanced analysis and reporting capabilities that are seamlessly integrated into IBM Business Monitor's installation, monitor model development, administration and business user experience (no Cognos experience needed), providing for a significant improvement in reporting capabilities on monitor-created data, including rolling time periods, drag-and-drop re-ordering, report preview, and many other powerful report editing tools.

New enhanced security and business user capabilities

  • "Fine-grained" security for IBM Business Monitor data enables or prevents viewing of any information depth or detail, based on any category. From instances to KPIs to dimensional data to metrics to alert templates to cube dimensions and measures, IBM Business Monitor can now be configured to enable or prevent access based on any category, based on users/groups defined in Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), another application, or defined within IBM Business Monitor itself.
  • Enhanced business user customization of data filtering and dashboard controls & reports: New enhancements include improved date & time, and/or, data-assist, and persistent search/filtering, amongst others.

New enhanced scalability, deployment and operational functionality

  • Full scalability to any number of machines in a cluster or multiple servant regions on a z/OS® server
  • A number of deployment and operational improvements, including:
    • Improved logging capabilities for deployment troubleshooting
    • High-performance purging of unwanted data for improved overall performance
    • A utility for the batch transfer of instances when migrating to a new version
    • A documented Disaster Recovery strategy that describes how to back up IBM Business Monitor data to quickly restore it

New user interface capabilities via an upgrade to Business Space V7.5

IBM Business Monitor V7.5 is upgraded to the new Business Space V7.5 component, including these enhancements:

  • Major usability enhancements

IBM Business Monitor provides comprehensive BAM that is the aggregation, analysis, and presentation of real-time operational, transactional, and process information collected from internal systems and sources, and also those involving customer's partners, and third parties. BAM is both a starting point and a major capability for IBM software for BPM, which is a discipline combining software capabilities and business expertise to accelerate process improvements.

Process change is enhanced by SOA, a flexible IT architecture that accelerates the creation and reuse of business services to facilitate business innovation. The design of BAM is to provide real-time information about the status and results of various operations, processes, and transactions to help business leaders and managers make smarter business decisions, address problem areas quickly, and manage resources more effectively. BAM systems are driven by business events, fed directly from integration software or from BPM software.

IBM Business Monitor allows IT to enable business users and managers to track their entire business operation on a single dashboard, receive alerts, and subsequently drill down to the lowest level of instance detail. Real-time information from any application can be captured for true end-to-end monitoring, enabling business users to take immediate action to remedy anomalous situations, take advantage of emerging business opportunities, and improve operations for improved customer satisfaction and improved business results. Studies have shown that real-time visibility solutions significantly increase revenue and decrease costs.

Rich embedded analytics, via Cognos BI V10.1.0.1, also help business users analyze historical and operational data with the goal of improving performance and making smarter decisions. Predictive capabilities enable business users to act before a problem or opportunity presents itself. Additional products that interact with and support IBM Business Monitor include:

  • IBM BPM - A single BPM platform that combines the human-centric and integration-centric capabilities. It provides business users with a single, scalable platform designed for every aspect of business process automation, optimization, and improvement. • IBM WebSphere Decision Server - A combination of the most comprehensive set of business rule management capabilities on the market and WebSphere Business Events for process events, patterns, and correlation.

The business rule management system enables organizations to define, deploy, monitor, and maintain the variety and complexity of decision logic used by operational systems. It allows decision logic to be extracted and managed separately from core application code, so it can be easily understood, maintained, and reused across organizations. Business experts can define and manage decision logic, reducing the amount of time and effort required to update decision logic in production systems, increasing an organization's ability to respond to changes in the business environment.

  • Integration Designer - One tool, one set of skills based on business-driven design principles for discovering, authoring (building), and integrating process, mediation, adapter, and component services.
  • IBM BPM Industry Packs - Delivers BPM-based solutions that are further solidified with the help of industry standards based SOA assets to ensure improved time-to-value, consistency, and reuse. These assets are useful across the process lifecycle.

                                              (PVU)

Processor Value Unit

Processor Value Unit (PVU) is a unit of measure by which the Program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU Table by Processor Value, Brand, Type and Model Number at

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html

and the number of processors made available to the Program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores.

Licensee can deploy the program using either Full Capacity licensing or Virtualization Capacity (Sub-Capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (see webpage below). If using Full Capacity licensing, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using Virtualization Capacity licensing, Licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/Counting_Software_licenses_using_specific_virtualization_technologies.html

* An Activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.

Notes

Some programs may require licenses for the program AND what is being managed. In that case, the following applies: In addition to the entitlements required for the program directly, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.

Some programs may be licensed on a managed basis ONLY. In that case, the following applies: Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.

A few programs on an exception basis may be licensed on a referenced basis. In that case, the following applies: Rather than obtaining entitlements for the activated processor cores available to the program, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the environment made available to the Referenced program as if the program itself were executing everywhere the Referenced program was executing, independent of the basis on which the Referenced program is licensed.

Express and Workgroup programs may be licensed with maximum use terms. In that case, the following applies: The maximum authorized use terms and conditions for PVU licensed IBM Express and Middleware programs can be found in the IBM Express and Middleware Licensing Guide.

Processor Value Unit (PVU) sub-capacity licensing

This software product is eligible for sub-capacity licensing. Customers must accept the terms of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement Attachment for Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (Attachment), and must obtain PVU Proofs of Entitlement (PoEs) for the maximum processor core capacity available to an eligible sub-capacity product when deployed in an eligible virtualization environment. This is also referred to as sub-capacity or virtualization capacity licensing.

Customers must use the IBM License Metric Tool unless they meet the exceptions described in the Attachment.

For information regarding PVU sub-capacity licensing, including terms and IBM License Metric Tool ordering information, visit

Terms and conditions
Bottom rule

The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and convenience purposes only. The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

This product is only available via Passport Advantage. It is not available as shrinkwrap.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.

These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

Limited warranty

IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, consult the IBM Software Support Handbook found at

http://www.ibm.com/support/handbook

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).

Program technical support

Technical support of a program product version or release will be available for a minimum of five years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) also provides you with access to updates (modifications or fixes), releases, and versions of the program. You will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

Money-back guarantee

If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.

For clarification, note that (1) for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program and (2) for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

Sub-capacity pricing terms and conditions

To be eligible for sub-capacity pricing, the machine on which the eligible products are installed and running must be eligible for sub-capacity pricing terms and conditions. Software pricing, at less than full machine capacity for eligible products, apply when running:

  • AIX 5L™ V5.1, or later, on an IBM System p® 690 or equivalent partition-capable operating system and machine
  • OS/400® V5R1, or later, running on an IBM System i®
  • Linux running in an LPAR under AIX 5L V5.1, OS/400 V5R1, or in a partition on an equivalent partition-capable operating system and server

Sub-capacity pricing for eligible products is based on the current program pricing methodology, but the number of processors will be determined based on the sum of processors for all partitions where the program is defined (used). To obtain pricing at less than full machine capacity for eligible products, you are required to:

  • Install and use, when available, IBM's license use management program, which installs with eligible IBM programs.
  • Install available updates to the operating system and eligible products such that license use can be accurately managed.
  • Determine if the use of sub-capacity pricing terms results in a reduced requirement for entitlements; you can reallocate the entitlement difference by distributing entitlements across a larger or different set of systems, or reserve them for future growth. There will be no refunds for these freed up entitlements. Subscription, Software Maintenance and support volumes, and entitlements for existing contracts will continue at the same levels as the acquired licenses.
