Overview |
IBM Mobile Portal Accelerator (formerly IBM WebSphere Everyplace Mobile Portal Enable) software is an advanced content adaptation product that helps users customize portal content for mobile devices.
Mobile users can access portals via a highly navigable, personalized web experience. Business services, content, and commerce applications can be accessed from virtually anywhere using the same open, web-based, integrated business services traditionally used on laptop and desktop computers provided through WebSphere Portal software. It can provide an easy, cost-effective way to deliver content and applications to many mobile devices. For example, developers can create one version of web content and use it for multiple mobile devices rather than developing content for each device.
The Mobile Portal Accelerator software can adapt the content for each mobile device based on the specific device characteristics and capabilities, which are defined in the software's device repository.
Mobile Portal Accelerator software includes a Mobile Portal Toolkit, which supports IBM Rational Application Developer V8.0 and IBM Rational Software Architect V8.0.
The Mobile Portal Toolkit comes with the necessary tools to develop portlet applications for mobile devices.
IBM Mobile Portal Accelerator Device Update
This separately priced, related subscription service entitles Mobile Portal Accelerator Device Update customers to receive regular updates to the mobile device repository, including new mobile device definitions and updates as they become available from device manufacturers. Mobile web portals are an important strategy for customers who want to gain market advantage, increase their customers' loyalty, and increase revenues. Using the Mobile Portal Accelerator, developers can write once and render personalized Web content quickly across multiple mobile devices, which can save time and expense. And with the Mobile Portal Accelerator Update subscriptions service organizations can support even the latest devices available without redeveloping their mobile web applications.

Description |
Mobile Portal Accelerator V7.0 is an integrated, server-side infrastructure offering that enables the design and deployment of mobile solutions, including the enablement of mobile web technologies for:
- Multi-channel access of portal content
- Write once, render on multiple devices
- Support for the mobile portal navigation model enables more usable and flexible navigation on wireless devices
A mobile portal represents a set of pages with menu links that appear as text, icons, or both. These links allow end users to navigate to sub-menus or content pages.
Mobile Portal Accelerator integrates with WebSphere Portal platform services, delivering security-rich, scalable and personalized mobile services including:
- Navigation, personalized experience, and multi-device rendering
- User registration and profile management
- Security, access control, and single sign-on
- Aggregation of a broad mix of applications into a unified display
- Portal logging services for mobile page monitoring and usage pattern analysis
The device-specific adaptation of the Mobile Portal Accelerator multi-channel server enables separation of portlet development from page layout and branding. It also allows for the optimization of the content based on the device-specific capabilities.
The diversity of mobile devices continues to increase, as do their capabilities. Devices differ in their physical characteristics (screen size and keyboard), viewing patterns (kiosks and television) as well as in the markup languages supported by their browsers.
Delivering a high-quality user experience is increasingly dependent on device-aware tooling and runtime device recognition that can optimize delivery based on device specific capabilities. Mobile Portal Accelerator can accelerate web content delivery that matches the specific capabilities of a broad array of mobile device types, thus enhance and improve the user experience.
Accessibility by people with disabilities
Mobile Portal Accelerator V7.0 provides the following accessibility features for the following environments:
- Web applications
- Summarizes the content of each graph and chart or uses the logdesc attribute to link to the description or data
- When an applet, plug-in, or other application is required to be present, provides a link to one that is directly accessible or provides alternate content for those which are not directly accessible
- Delivers methods for skipping over navigation links to get to main content of page
- Provides a title for each frame element and frame page, and provides an accessible source for each frame
- Allows all information conveyed with color to also be conveyed without color
- Avoids causing content to blink, flicker, or move
- Helps assure accessibility using available, tested tools
- Java applications
- Provides keyboard equivalents for actions
- Does not interfere with keyboard accessibility features built into the operating system
- Implements the Java Accessibility API
- Associates labels with controls, objects, and icons
- Uses color as an enhancement, not as the only way to convey information or indicate actions
- Supports system settings for high contrast for all user interface controls and client area content
- Supports system settings for size, font, and color for all user interface controls
- Provides an option to adjust timed responses or allow the instruction to persist
- Avoids the use of blinking text, objects, or other elements
- Verifies accessibility using standard accessibility test tools or through manual methods

Processor Value Uniti
Processor Value Unit (PVU) is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU Table by Processor Value, Brand, Type and Model Number at http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_ customers.html) and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores
Licensee can deploy the program using either Full Capacity licensing or Virtualization Capacity (Sub-Capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (see webpage below). If using Full Capacity licensing, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using Virtualization Capacity licensing, Licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/Counting_Software_ licenses_using_specific_virtualization_technologies.html
* An Activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.
Notes
Some programs may require licenses for the program AND what is being managed. In that case, the following applies: In addition to the entitlements required for the program directly, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
Some programs may be licensed on a managed basis ONLY. In that case, the following applies: Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
A few programs on an exception basis may be licensed on a referenced basis. In that case, the following applies: Rather than obtaining entitlements for the activated processor cores available to the program, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the environment made available to the Referenced program as if the program itself were executing everywhere the Referenced program was executing, independent of the basis on which the Referenced program is licensed.
Express and Workgroup programs may be licensed with maximum use terms. In that case, the following applies: The maximum authorized use terms and conditions for PVU licensed IBM Express and Middleware programs can be found in the IBM Express and Middleware Licensing Guide.
