Description

IBM Homogeneous Replication Feature for DB2 Enterprise Server Edition V9.5.0 consolidates and synchronizes data for high availability, high throughput, and business continuity. New features and functions include:

Reduce lock contention for z/OS batch jobs

You can now set a maximum number of agents for the Q Apply program to use when processing transactions that have the same z/OS batch job name or correlation ID. You set the maxagents_correlid parameter for a replication queue map. This parameter allows you to reduce lock contention by limiting parallelism for transactions from the same batch job on a z/OS Q Capture server. Reducing lock contention can lower latency.

Replicate XML columns

You can now replicate DB2 XML columns. These columns are replicated in a similar manner to other columns. You can also replicate these data types to IDS federated targets that support XML columns or you can map XML columns to character large-object (CLOB) columns or binary large-object (BLOB) columns at the target.

New option for maintaining target tables

This option allows you to take a single table offline for maintenance rather than many tables. You can now place a Q subscription into a temporary spill state so that you can performance maintenance on the target table. You use the asnqacmd spillsub command to put the Q subscription into the spilling state and the asnqacmd resumesub command to resume normal operations.

Promote Q replication configurations to another system

You can use new ASNCLP commands to copy or promote Q replication configurations from one system (for example, a test system) to another system (for example, a production system). You can also change some of the properties of the objects as you are promoting the objects to the new system.

DECFLOAT data type is supported for Q replication

The new DECFLOAT decimal floating-point data type supports business applications that require exact decimal values, with precisions of 16 or 34 digits. You can replicate data that you define with the DECFLOAT data type on both DB2 Database for Linux™, UNIX®, and Windows® and DB2 for z/OS. You can use columns that you define with DECFLOAT as part of a replication key column. Q replication does not support mapping source columns of DECFLOAT (34) to target columns of DECFLOAT (16) because of data truncation.

Replication dashboard

The replication dashboard is a tool for monitoring and troubleshooting Q replication. It provides a logical, end-to-end view of replication health and allows quick identification of problem areas in a replication topology and easy drill down into problem details.

Accessibility by people with disabilities

A U.S. Section 508 Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) can be requested via the IBM Web site

Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act

IBM Homogeneous Replication Feature for DB2 Enterprise Server Edition is capable as of January 25, 2008, when used in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it. A U.S. Section 508 Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT), containing details on the products accessibility compliance, can be requested at

IPLA and Subscription and Support considerations

IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an enterprise. You may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement (PoE). It is your responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license.

Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made.

Technical information

Specified operating environment

Hardware requirements

The exact configuration needed to support your environment with satisfactory processing time will vary depending on multiple factors. Processing times vary depending on server speed, memory, and network and server workload. Minimum recommended configurations listed below need to be evaluated and adjusted according to your unique requirements. Disk space recommendations below are for the product installation and working space only. The actual hard disk space required varies depending upon your installation.

The minimum hardware requirement for WebSphere® Replication Server, or WebSphere Data Event Publisher is defined by the supported operating systems, with the following additional minimum hardware requirements:

  • When running on x86 systems with 32-bit Windows® or Linux™: Intel® Pentium® 4, an Intel Xeon, AMD Athlon, AMD Opteron CPU, or higher is required.
  • When running on x86-64 systems with 64-bit Windows or Linux, systems with Intel EM64T or AMD64 processors are required.
  • When running on AIX® and Linux for System p™ and System i™, POWER4™ and POWER5™ CPUs are required.
  • When running on Solaris, an UltraSPARC CPU is required.
  • When running on Linux for System z™, an IBM System z server or IBM System z9™ server is required.

Memory requirements

The minimum required memory is generally 256 MB. To determine the memory requirements for the installation, consider the following factors:

  • Other software running on the same server
  • Memory requirements of database clients
  • Performance requirements
  • The size and complexity of your configuration
  • The extent of database activity and the number of clients that access your system
  • Memory required to process the temporary tables and sorts performed by the federated server to avoid using the disk input and output

Disk space requirement

The total amount of required megabytes of disk space is the sum of the components listed in the table.

Operating system Installer

AIX 5L(TM) 50-80
Linux 50-80
Solaris 50-80
Windows 50-80

Additional disk space considerations

  • Consider the amount of necessary disk space on the federated server to manage any temporary tables and sorts that exceed the available memory.
  • The disk space requirements vary depending on the customer's configuration and the type of disk drive that the customer has. Significantly more disk space might be required on FAT drives with large cluster sizes that New Technology File System (NTFS) drives.

For information on hardware requirements of the IBM DB2 V9.5 for Linux, UNIX®, and Windows products, refer to Software Announcement 207-261 , dated October 16, 2007.

Charge metrics definitions

Value Unit

A Value Unit is a pricing charge metric for program license entitlements which is based upon the quantity of a specific designated measurement used for a given program. Each program has a designated measurement. The most commonly used designated measurement is a processor core. However, for select programs, there are other designated measurements such as users, client devices, and messages. The number of Value Unit entitlements required for a program depends on how the program is deployed in your environment and must be obtained from a Value Unit table. You must obtain a PoE for the calculated number of Value Unit entitlements for your implementation. The Value Unit entitlements are specific to a program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Unit entitlements of another program.

Processor (Value Unit)

A processor core is a functional unit within a computing device that interprets and executes instructions. A processor core consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or more arithmetic or logic unit. With multicore technology, each core is considered a processor. Not all processor cores require the same number of Value Unit entitlements. To calculate the number of Value Unit entitlements required, refer to the Value Unit table on the following Web site

With full capacity licensing, a PoE must be acquired for the appropriate number of Value Units based on all activated processor cores available for use on the server.
