| Overview |
IT is moving to the strategic center of business, so organizations can no longer ignore the inefficiencies in today's approach to computing. To overcome IT inefficiencies, the model must shift to smarter computing, in which IT infrastructure enables a smarter planet. Multiple approaches exist today. Organizations are using the flexibility of general purpose systems to tune their own systems, optimizing them for the business environment. However, the time and effort to do this can be significant. Organizations are also taking advantage of the simplicity of appliances and the elasticity of cloud where those approaches make sense. Organizations require the best of all these options in one system. Influencing best practices and expertise is key.
Introducing a new category of systems: expert integrated systems
Expert integrated systems combine the flexibility of general purpose systems and the simplicity of an appliance with integrated expertise. Expert integrated systems are based on patterns of expertise, designed to dramatically improve the responsiveness of the business. Patterns of expertise can automatically balance, manage and optimize the elements necessary from the underlying hardware resources to help deliver and manage today's modern business processes, services, and applications. They do so by encapsulating, into a repeatable and deployable form, proven best practices and expertise gained from decades of optimizing the deployment and management of data centers, software infrastructures and applications around the world.
IBM PureFlex System
The IBM PureFlex System provides an integrated computing system - combining servers, enterprise storage, networking, virtualization, and management into a single structure. Its built-in expertise lets organizations simply manage and flexibly deploy integrated patterns of virtual and hardware resources through unified management.
The PureFlex System has three preintegrated offerings to support compute, storage, and networking requirements. You can select from these offerings, which are designed for key client initiatives and help simplify the ordering and configuration of PureFlex Systems. As a result, the PureFlex System helps cut the cost, time, and complexity of system deployments.
The PureFlex System offerings are as follows:
- Express®: Infrastructure system for small-sized and midsized businesses; the most cost-effective entry point
- Standard: Infrastructure system for application servers with supporting storage and networking
- Enterprise: Infrastructure system for transactional and database systems; includes redundancy for resilient operations
