At a glance

More choice, more flexibility

  • Modular design in iron gray
  • Interface adaptability: USB or PS/2
  • Redesigned pointing device that combines touch pad and pointer
  • New optional authentication devices: fingerprint reader (not available with key lock)
  • Reconfigurable keyboard to meet operational requirements
  • Programmable key function

Eco-friendly

  • Upgradable — Keyboards are designed with modular building blocks to enable reuse of parts in future installations. The design enables an extended product life to perform over a long (seven-year) life cycle, translating into fewer obsolete products and less disposal.
  • Reuse — New keyboards are compatible with recent IBM POS systems. The modular design makes it easy to repair worn components, and easy to upgrade as technology changes.
  • Minimize environmental impact — Keyboard packaging consists mostly of recycled post-consumer waste materials. Most of the keyboard and packaging content may be recycled.

Investment protection

  • Compatible with existing IBM POS 500
  • Reconfigurable keyboard function without replacing keyboard base
  • Retail hardened to extend keyboard life
  • Improved serviceability
  • Support for latest connectivity

Overview

A new point-of-sale (POS) keyboard is available for the IBM SurePOS 500 platform.

The new modular compact alphanumeric POS (CANPOS) keyboard is a version of IBM's most popular POS compact keyboard, valued by clients for its space-saving modular design. It takes up less workspace on a counter, and fits in a small checkout area — an important feature for the smaller format retailers such as specialty stores and hospitality and service industries.

This new keyboard offers a range of additional features and functions that enable retail clients to expand the capability of their IBM POS systems. Standard interfaces such as USB and PS/2® enable compatibility that helps optimize existing investments. Plus the new keyboard is available in color-matched iron gray to coordinate with your existing or new IBM SurePOS™ 500.

The modular CANPOS keyboard is more flexible, easier to use, and includes optional features such as combined touch pad and pointer for improved data entry and faster transaction times. The optional pointing device and touch pad eliminates the need for a separate mouse. A new biometric authentication option offers increased security in system operations. In addition, the standard keyboard features such as magnetic stripe readers (MSRs) and key locks are available.

These new features and functions, combined with IBM quality, reliability and service make this one of the most versatile keyboards for any POS environment.
