Description

New design

The ThinkPad X300 notebook features a new 338-mm (13.3-in) display that combines the portability of a smaller display and visual comfort of a larger one. It is the thinnest ThinkPad notebook available. It can slide easily into your bag or luggage. With its wide panel, you can work with your office applications or watch a movie on DVD.

The ThinkPad X300 notebook includes these unique design features:

  • Rubber paint on the palm rest and top and bottom cover that makes the notebook comfortable to use
  • New matte texture finish on the keyboard for a tactile feel on the keys and paint that lasts longer
  • Illuminated buttons that improve usability
  • New and stylish glossy hinges

Latest technology

The new ThinkPad X300 notebook features many industry-leading technologies.

GPS: The ThinkPad X300 notebook features a built-in GPS that comes with WWAN models. You do not have to activate the WWAN card to use the GPS. With the help of the GPS, you can use various navigation programs on your notebook similar to GPS systems in cars. The new interface and the ThinkVantage button make the GPS easy to use.

Solid state drive (SSD): The ThinkPad X300 notebook features a 64 GB SSD that delivers these benefits:

  • Faster boot time and application launch time
  • Lower power usage and less heat production
  • Longer lifetime; no moving parts and less wear and tear
  • Quiet operation

LCD TFT display: The ThinkPad X300 ultraportable notebook includes a 13.3-inch WXGA+ TFT display with 1440 x 900 resolution and LED backlight panels. LED offers benefits over regular panels, including:

  • Lower power consumption
  • Brighter presentation

The LED backlight panels accommodate an extremely thin design and contribute to a longer battery life. Because LED panels are brighter than regular panels, they offer easier viewing outdoors or in bright offices.

Ultrathin DVD burner: The ThinkPad X300 notebook features the industry-leading 7-mm (0.28-in) ultrathin DVD burner.

Integrated camera and digital microphone: The ThinkPad X300 notebook has the latest technology for voice and video communications for both the traveler and home user who want to stay connected via a computer. It includes an integrated 1.3 megapixel camera and a digital microphone. The digital microphone delivers true sound and effectively cancels background noise. It also enables superior speech recognition.

Long battery life: The ThinkPad X300 notebook features three battery options:

  • Three-cell Li-Polymer battery (standard)
  • Three-cell Li-Polymer battery (options bay slot)
  • Six-cell prismatic (Li-Ion extended battery)

The ThinkPad X300 notebook can deliver up to 10 hours of battery life. It also comes with the BatteryStretch feature that lets you squeeze extra minutes out of your notebook when it appears that the battery is about to run out.

Improved wireless performance

The ThinkPad X300 notebook features several ways to connect to networks whether you are at the office or on the road, including:

  • WWAN
  • WLAN
  • UWB
  • Bluetooth
  • Modem via USB dongle (option)

The ThinkPad X300 notebook features integrated certified wireless USB over UWB. UWB enables greater throughput with higher bandwidth than Bluetooth. It also offers simultaneous support of WLAN, WWAN, and UWB through its implementation of the PCI Express microcard.

With UWB, you can get rid of cable clutter and free some of the USB ports on your notebook. USB devices such as displays, printers, and cameras can be connected to the wireless USB hub.

With Access Connections, the network is literally just two presses of a button away. You can get rid of all kinds of cables and cords and enjoy the benefits of being wireless.

Environmentally friendly features

The ThinkPad X300 notebook is Lenovo's first EPEAT gold certified notebook. EPEAT is a universally accepted, highest-rated environment tool. Products with EPEAT gold certification have low energy consumption and are environmentally friendly. The ThinkPad X300 notebook has many energy-saving features including:

  • Dual core low voltage (LV) processors
  • SSDs
  • LED backlight panel
  • Arsenic-free LCD glass panels

The ThinkPad X300 manufacturing process is environmentally friendly.

  • Most packaging materials are recyclable.
  • Use of environmentally sensitive materials such as cadmium, mercury, and dexavalent chromium is reduced.

The ThinkPad X300 notebook has improved energy efficiency with the new BatteryStretch and ENERGY STAR 4.0-compliant features.

Latest options available: The ThinkPad X300 notebook can be expanded with multiple options designed to improve productivity. These include:

  • USB port replication
  • USB modem
  • External HDD

Processor technology: Intel Core 2 Duo small form factor 7100 LV processor (1.2 GHz with 4 MB of L2 cache and 800 MHz front-side bus (FSB))

System memory: 1 GB (512 MB x 2), 1 GB, 2 GB, 2 GB (1024 MB x 2), or 4 GB (2048 MB x 2)

Important information about memory: Lenovo notebooks announced in April 2007, or later, have a new 64-bit architecture.

The standard memory can be expanded to 3 or 4 GB of addressable memory, depending on whether the operating system is a 32- or 64-bit operating system. The new notebooks with a Windows Vista 32-bit or previous Windows 32-bit operating system can support up to 3 GB of addressable memory. The new notebooks with a Windows Vista 64-bit operating system can support up to 4 GB of addressable memory.

Recommended for memory expansion are 512 MB, 1 GB, and 2 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667 MHz SO DIMM.

Security and reliability: Lenovo combines thoughtful engineering with bold design, delivering systems that help lower your total cost of ownership.

  • Lenovo password management is easy to use. It enables secure access to your system as well as your Web pages and is integrated with the fingerprint reader available on many Lenovo systems.
  • Lenovo systems include a fully integrated recovery environment that works even when the operating system is not working.
  • Lenovo systems manage everything that changes when your location changes, not just your Internet connection.

Data protection: Models include integrated fingerprint reader technology from ThinkVantage technologies to help protect access to your ThinkPad notebook and data.

  • Because fingerprints are unique, using them along with other security measures can provide strong security.
  • Fingerprint reader is built right into the palm rest area of the computer. When used with Password Manager and the Client Security Solution, pass your finger over the reader instead of typing passwords or combine it with passwords.
  • Security software is preloaded and combines the integrated fingerprint reader with Password Manager and the Client Security Solution for strong security measures that are easy to follow.
  • Administrators can implement strong security policies and users can meet ongoing password requirements easily.

Keyboard and TrackPoint® with enhanced features: The keyboard has the familiar layout and quality of a ThinkPad notebook with function keys that allow you to quickly access system functions such as power management control.

Each of these quick key combinations launches a menu that can be used to easily manage your ThinkPad system:

  • Fn + F5 for wireless radio control
  • Fn + F7 for Presentation Director to toggle through different displays and adjust resolutions
  • Fn + F9 for Easy Eject to seamlessly remove add-on peripherals such as a memory key

TrackPoint with enhanced features incorporates the press-to-select and release-to-select function to speed icon launches and help reduce keystrokes. A programmable center button enables fast scrolling of Web sites (requires Internet access; not included) and documents or fast panning across wide spreadsheets. The innovative magnifying glass feature can be used to enlarge screen views in any application.

Other features: The ThinkPad X300 systems include these ports:

  • External display
  • Built-in RJ-45 connectors for LAN connections
  • Microphone
  • Headphone
  • Three USB 2.0 ports

Warranty service: If required, your service provider provides repair or exchange service depending on the type of warranty service specified for the machine. A service technician will attempt to resolve your problem over the telephone. You must follow the problem determination and resolution procedures. Scheduling of service will depend upon the time of your call and is subject to parts availability. Service levels are response time objectives and are not guaranteed. The specified level of warranty service may not be available in all worldwide locations. Additional charges may apply outside your service providers normal service area. Contact your local service provider representative or your reseller for country- and location-specific information.

Customer replaceable unit (CRU) service: Lenovo will ship CRUs to you for you to install, Tier 1 CRUs are easy to install whereas Tier 2 CRUs require some technical skill and tools. CRU information and replacement instructions are shipped with your machine and are available from Lenovo at any time on your request. You may request that a service provider install CRUs, at no additional charge, under the type of warranty service designated for your machine. Lenovo specifies in the materials shipped with a replacement CRU whether a defective CRU must be returned. When return is required, return instructions and a container are shipped with the replacement CRU. You may be charged for the replacement CRU if Lenovo does not receive the defective CRU within 30 days of your receipt of the replacement.

Most repairs should be made within 48 hours after the system is received at the repair location (actual repair time may vary). Keep the original shipping carton for shipping to the repair location. If the original shipping carton is not available, the courier will deliver a shipping carton and return to pick up the system for delivery to the repair location.

International Warranty Service (IWS): IWS is available during the warranty period to customers who travel or relocate to countries where their computer is sold and serviced by a Service Provider authorized to perform warranty service. Eligible Lenovo computers are identified by their four-digit machine type.
