Overview

The new model 514 was designed to bring the advantages and sleek design of the very successful SurePOS 500 family (543 and 563). The new model 514 has the same style and format but has been engineered for economy. Taking advantage of new technology cost savings and designing the entire system with customer costs in mind IBM has established a new benchmark for small and medium customers while incorporating those compelling features that have made the SurePOS 500 family of products a top selling Point of Sale System in food service and hospitality world wide for the past five years. The entire system design also has taken into account requirements for ease of service to allow for customers or technicians to easily upgrade or swap components.
  • A 1.2 Ghz VIA processor
  • 256 MB of memory standard, upgradeable to 512 MB or 1 GB.
  • 8 to 64 MB UMA video memory
  • A 40 GB SATA HDD, 7200 RPM hard disk drive (HDD) or greater, standard options are available for solid state memory if required.
  • 12.1 inch Resistive Touch, Active LCD model
  • The new Model 514 has a new enhanced wireless integration kit that provides optimum coverage and flexibility to meet country specific wireless requirements by utilizing USB technology (USB Dongle not included)
  • Enhanced systems management
  • Port enhancements, including powered 24V USB ports, standard
  • A wide range of optional features including receipt printers, displays, MSRs and trays to keep the counter neat.

Planning information

Customer responsibilities

The customer is responsible for unpacking and setting up the components in accordance with the customer setup instructions provided.

As a customer setup machine, its installation is similar to that of an IBM PC. A screwdriver will be required to install or remove feature cards as well as to remove the field replaceable units (FRUs).

You are responsible for placing legends in the key tops and for keyboard customization as applicable.

You are responsible for ordering at least one 4951 ship group per store.

You are responsible for keeping the system BIOS current by downloading the latest level from the following Web site http://www.ibm.com/solutions/retail/store

Cable orders

A power cord is shipped with every 4951. The length and plug type must be specified by the customer with each machine order.

All input/output (I/O) device attachment cables are optional and are shipped per the customer order.

Installability

This is a customer setup (CSU) product.

For planning purposes, installation time will range from less than half an hour to two hours. Actual time will depend on the number of features to be installed and the experience of the installer.

Security, auditability and control

This product uses the security and auditability features of the SurePOS 500 Express. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection and implementation of security features, administrative procedures and appropriate controls in application systems and communications facilities.
