Abstract

IBM Sterling B2B Integrator V5.2.6 and IBM Sterling File Gateway V2.2.6

Companies in many industries are under pressure to sustain their operations on a 24 x 7 x 365 basis due to the nature of their business. Whether it is a global supply chain, hospitals providing 24 hour patient care, or the demands of consumer banking, the need to operate without interruption is no longer an option.

What is also common across all industries is a need to exchange a variety of business documents and in many use cases do so in real time. This complexity puts enormous pressure on IT to architect a business-to-business (B2B) integration platform that not only supports a just-in-time exchange of critical business documents but is always available.

Complicating this is that many companies have chosen to operate regionally dispersed data centers for both performance and disaster recovery purposes. Companies have gone to great lengths to ensure 24 x7 x 365 availability by deploying redundant hardware and software capabilities so they can operate in an active-active or active-passive mode or leverage data base technology to minimize disaster recovery downtime.

IBM Sterling B2B Integrator V5.2.6 and IBM Sterling File Gateway V2.2.6 help companies overcome the challenges of operating without downtime by offering a new highly available mailbox architecture for the exchange of files with trading partners. Active-active processing across globally distributed locations enables highly available business operations while built-in application disaster recovery satisfies data preservation requirements.

New in Sterling B2B Integrator V5.2.6 and Sterling File Gateway 2.2.6 for high availability and disaster recovery:

  • Mailbox capabilities
  • Access and protocol support for File Transfer Protocol (FTP), Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP), IBM Connect:Direct (C:D), myFileGateway
  • Business-to-business (B2B) architecture for active deployments across data centers
  • Application level command and control to manage payloads across data centers
  • A consistent view across data centers of what files get processed regardless of data center status

Sterling B2B Integrator V5.2.6 and Sterling File Gateway V2.2.6 also include integration with IBM Partner Engagement Manager, a universal onboarding solution. IBM Partner Repository and IBM Partner Provisioner are components of Partner Engagement Manager.

Partner Repository collects and holds all the data associated with each trading partner while Partner Provisioner acts as the onboarding agent across multiple IBM products. Together, these two components can help simplify the initial on-boarding of a partner plus the on- going management of the relationship. They also present a single on- boarding UI to eliminate the redundancy of setting up on-boarding information across multiple products.

IBM Sterling Business Integration Suite software components can help enable you to solve critical business-to-business (B2B) and managed file transfer challenges; to connect people, systems and technology; and can enable the secure and seamless integration of key business challenges, which can help deliver:

  • Improved business agility by securely and flexibly integrating with any partner, any system, anywhere. This capability is crucial to making vital connections with customers, suppliers, and others in the B2B community.
  • Improved operational efficiency by seamlessly automating manual business and IT processes inside and outside the enterprise. This can save you staff, time, and money--resources that can be used to grow your business in other key areas.
  • Improved business performance, which can provide visibility into actionable information across key business and IT processes.
  • Empowered data movement, which can provide assured file delivery with visibility, control, and governance for all data movement, including third-party FTP servers.

Description

IBM Sterling B2B Integrator V5.2.6 and IBM Sterling File Gateway V2.2.6

This component makes use of functionality built into other IBM B2B portfolio architectures as well as other technologies, to deliver an active-active solution across multiple data centers.

Companies looking to deploy Global High Availability Mailbox can leverage the solution to:

  • Provide a purpose built multiple data center mailbox architecture.
  • Deliver a true geographically distributed mailbox capability.
  • Eliminate the need for custom solutions, database replication or other approaches.
  • Deliver a consistent view so you know exactly the location of your files.

With Global High Availability Mailbox, companies that operate regional data centers for customer service and performance reasons can now design and deploy a high availability mailbox architecture that provides data storage across geographically distributed locations. Data is routed to the nearest available regional data center and then replicated across centers in near real time. The enabled applications identified for mailbox events to trigger application level actions, such as initiating further processing in the underlying solutions of Sterling B2B Integrator or Sterling File Gateway, are executed. This helps ensure compliance with performance and customer service related SLAs with no impact to your business partner facing operations.

Additional information about Sterling B2B Integrator can be found at

Global High Availability Mailbox enables companies to deploy an active-passive disaster recovery architecture that can react to unplanned outage situation in near real time to minimize the impact to operations and making the cutover to the secondary site transparent to the line of business, customers, and other partners. This eliminates the need to rely on database replication or other custom built approaches for disaster recovery, and helps contain the costs associated with building out developing redundant data center operations specific to disaster recovery.

Companies encounter dilemmas trying to address their high availability operations and disaster recovery requirements. Downtime impact to the business, costs, and maintainability are some examples of the struggles companies have trying to address these requirements.

IBM Sterling B2B Integrator V5.2.6 and Sterling File Gateway 2.2.6 includes an update to B2B Advanced Communications by adding support of Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) to the list of supported protocols within B2B Advance Communications.
