Abstract

The IBM Rational product family provides a seamless integration of Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) capabilities that are referred to as Rational Collaborative Lifecycle Management (CLM). CLM provides a collaborative way for software delivery teams to unify multiple platforms and coordinate roles and activities across the core ALM disciplines of Change Management, Requirements Management, and Quality Management.

The core CLM solution integrates a corresponding set of products, which include Rational Team Concert, Rational Requirements Composer, and Rational Quality Manager, to create a highly collaborative solution for software delivery. This solution can also be integrated with Rational Software Architect to extend the value of CLM to design management. IBM also maintains integrations between a number of its other ALM products, such as Rational ClearQuest.

While CLM is a powerful solution, IBM realizes that customers already invested into other tools and technologies needed to continue using them, at least for the time being. These customers operate in highly diverse and heterogeneous lifecycle environments and have a variety of reasons why tools already established in their environments are critical to their business. These tools often cannot simply be removed and replaced with new ones, but must coexist and interoperate with any new tools brought into the environment.

It is for those customers that IBM offers the Rational Lifecycle Integration Adapters. These software components connect Rational ALM products to select third-party tools to allow customers to continue using their existing lifecycle tools and still gain benefit from many capabilities found in the Rational CLM solution.

Rational Lifecycle Integration Adapters V1.1.2 features

Improved adapters are delivered to enhance support for organizations that apply agile practices and need them to scale across their enterprise. Adapters for VersionOne and ThoughtWorks Mingle extend agile project management to a broader scale of deployment and a more consistent manner of application. These adapters integrate with Rational Requirements Composer to support a more robust degree of requirements management that many agile projects require as they scale up in complexity. Improvements to the existing Rally adapter now integrates comments and attachments and leverage agile templates in Rational Team Concert for taking agile development to an enterprise scale of deployment.

Additional enhancements include a web user interface for administrator monitoring of adapter usage statistics, data integration activities, and notification configuration. Administrators are now given the ability to switch between "test" and "production" modes to provide better control of the affects of change on the end users. And a more complex arrangement of integration connections can now be made to support more advanced relationships between various types of artifacts.
