Product positioning

All XIV Gen3 models deliver consistently high performance, simple management, and great data economics that can be improved even further with IBM Real-time-Compression.

When compared to Model 214 4 TB and 6 TB offerings, the XIV Gen3 compute resources are doubled and the added resources are dedicated to Real-time Compression. This significantly increases effective capacity utilization and power efficiencies per capacity to deliver outstanding data economics to your high-end storage. In addition, XIV Model 314 base license contains Real-time-Compression, which is enabled by default.

IBM XIV Storage System software V11.6.1 enables you to uniformly and centrally manage of all software licenses for storage deployments that are built with IBM Spectrum Accelerate software under one enterprise license agreement (ELA), including those for XIV Storage System Gen3. IBM XIV Storage System Gen3 supports the application of Spectrum Accelerate software licenses to XIV Storage System Gen3 hardware.

IBM XIV Storage System Gen3 and IBM XIV Cloud Storage for Service Providers are excellent choices for providers of private, public, and hybrid clouds providing IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) and STaaS (Storage as a Service) to enterprises needing storage with added value.

IBM XIV Storage System software V11.6.1 provides IBM XIV Cloud Storage for Service Providers with 2810-214 and 2812-214.

XIV software version 11.6.1 builds upon the well-known attributes of the XIV Storage System and delivers the functional capabilities of the XIV system.

The combination of XIV hardware and software is designed to provide a consistently high-performance, grid-based architecture that is exceptionally easy to use. This combination offers a scalable, reliable, enterprise disk system for UNIX, Linux, Microsoft Windows, and other supported distributed open server platforms.

This system provides a platform to address the need for reducing complexity while keeping pace with high-end and upper midrange market disk capacity demands. An integral product within the IBM Smarter Storage offering, XIV Storage is a good fit for clients who want to grow capacity, improve overall performance, and reduce backup intervals, costs, and task load on storage administrators, without managing multiple tiers of storage.

The XIV system is especially well-suited for consolidated utility storage for fast-growing, dynamically mixed, and emerging workloads.

This feature is ordered for installations where receiving a full sized assembled storage unit would be impractical, due to door height limitations, or moderate weight limitations.

The unit would be delivered fully tested but partially disassembled into several easily transported subassemblies. This feature would allow racks to be safely transported on lower weight capacity elevators. At the installation site the system will be unpacked by IBM technicians, and the front door, rear door and top hat would be temporarily removed so the system can be rolled through low doorways in the customer's facility. At the final destination, all devices that were shipped separately can be installed.

This feature will increase the machine installation time.

This optional feature ensures a weight that does not exceed 272.2 kg (600 lb), for traversal at the delivery site.

This feature is ordered for installations where receiving a full sized assembled storage unit, or ordering feature #0200 would be impractical, due to greater weight limitations. The unit would be delivered fully tested but partially disassembled into several easily transported subassemblies. This feature would allow racks to be safely transported on lower weight capacity elevators. At the installation site the system will be unpacked by IBM technicians, and the front door, rear door and side covers would be temporarily removed so the rack assembly can then be carried up stairs, hoisted via crane through windows, tipped to fit through low doorways, and rolled through low doorways in the customer's facility. At the final destination, all devices that were shipped separately can be installed.

This feature will increase the machine installation time.

                              GbE)

These features identify whether a machine is participating in the XIV Capacity on Demand (Standby CoD) offering. They are for administrative purposes only.

One of feature #030x is required on the initial order when participating in the XIV Capacity on Demand program. The agreements are used to indicate how many years clients have from date of installation to fully populate over-provisioned CoD modules that are not activated with feature #6041 4 TB SED HDD CoD Activation for Model 314 (with 1 GbE modules), or feature #6061 6 TB SED HDD CoD Activation for Model 314 (with 1 GbE modules), and with feature #6141 4 TB SED HDD CoD Activation for Model 314 (with 10 GbE modules), or feature #6161 6 TB SED HDD CoD Activation for Model 314 (with 10 GbE modules).

Participation in the XIV CoD program is valid as long as there are un-activated CoD modules in the system.

When activating CoD modules, ensure that there are remaining un-activated CoD modules to continue your participation in the program.

Any order that fully activates a CoD configuration and does NOT include additional un-activated CoD features will indicate the customer's desire to complete the CoD agreement and feature #030x must be removed from the machine's serial number in question.

At this point, non-SED drive CoD features #2027 and #2028 for 2 TB drives, 3 TB CoD features #2037 and #2038, and 4 TB CoD features #5043 and #5044, and for SED drive CoD features #2023 and #2024 for 2 TB SED drives, 3 TB SED CoD features #2033 and #2034, 4 TB SED CoD features #5043 and #5044, and 6 TB SED CoD features #5063 and #5064, for Model 314 (with 1 GbE modules) can no longer be ordered against this machine's serial number.

At this point, non-SED 4 TB CoD features #5143 and #5044, and for 4 TB SED CoD features #5143 and #5044, and 6 TB SED CoD features #5163 and #5064, for Model 314 (with 10 GbE modules) can no longer be ordered against this machine's serial number.

Partially populated configurations that have exited the CoD program can continue to be populated (ordered) via regular MES of non-SED 4 TB features #5041 and #5042, and SED 4 TB SED features #5041 and #5042, for Model 314, and 6 TB SED features #5061 and #5062, for Model 314.

One of the following agreements must be signed by the client prior to the acquisition of their first machine configured with XIV CoD features:

  • For clients who have a signed IBM Customer Agreement (or equivalent):
    • IBM Customer Agreement, Attachment for XIV Standby Capacity on Demand (US, form number Z125-8096), and
    • IBM Supplement for XIV Standby Capacity on Demand (US, form number Z125-8097)
  • For clients who do not have a signed IBM Customer Agreement (or equivalent):
    • IBM Agreement for XIV Standby Capacity on Demand (US, form number Z125-8098), and
    • IBM Supplement for XIV Standby Capacity on Demand (US, form number Z125-8097)

Once a client has executed either set of the above agreements, each subsequent order for any non-SED feature #6041 4 TB SED HDD CoD Activation, or feature #6061 6 TB SED HDD CoD Activation, for Model 314 (1 GbE modules) requires only that the customer sign an additional IBM Supplement for XIV Standby Capacity on Demand.

Once a client has executed either set of the above agreements, each subsequent order for any SED feature #6141 4 TB SED HDD CoD Activation, or feature #6161 6 TB SED HDD CoD Activation, for Model 314 (10 GbE modules) requires only that the customer sign an additional IBM Supplement for XIV Standby Capacity on Demand.

  • Minimum required: None.
  • Maximum allowed: One.
  • Corequisites: See table above.
  • Customer Setup: No.
  • Limitations:
    • For Model 314 with 1 GbE modules, features #030x are only compatible with SED features #6041 4 TB SED HDD CoD Activation or #6061 6 TB SED HDD CoD Activation; features #030x will be removed when SED feature #6041 for Model 314 equals the quantity of features #5043 and #5044 for 4 TB SED drives, or when SED feature #6061 for Model 314 equals the quantity of features #5063 and #5064 for 6 TB SED drives.
    • For Model 314 with 10 GbE Modules, features #030x are only compatible with SED feature #6141 4 TB SED HDD CoD Activation, or feature #6161 6 TB SED HDD CoD Activation; and features #030x will be removed when SED feature #6141 for Model 314 equals the quantity of features #5143 and #5044 for 4 TB SED drives, or when SED feature #6161 for Model 314 equals the quantity of features #5163 and #5064 for 6 TB SED drives.
