A patch panel is integrated into the IBM XIV Storage System for ease of user connectivity. Be aware that the optical cables that connect the patch panel to the rest of the device are 50 micron optical cables. Ideally, the cables that connect to this patch panel should also be 50 micron optical cables. Refer to the Installation and Planning Guide for more information.

You must also order the requisite IBM XIV Storage System Software for each module in the rack. Refer to the announcement for 5639-XXA for details on IBM XIV Storage System Software functionality.

A Capacity on demand ordering option is also available. This configuration will consist of six CoD Interface Modules and three CoD Data Modules. In addition, you must order a minimum of four activation features.

Contact your IBM representative to obtain additional information regarding CoD offering contracts, terms, and conditions.

(#030x) CoD term indicators

Feature Description System-Level Corequisites
------- --------------------- -------------------------
 0301 CoD Standard order #1120
 0302 CoD Special Bid 1 #1120
 0303 CoD Special Bid 2 #1120

Each feature identifies whether a machine is participating in the XIV Capacity on Demand (Standby CoD) offering. They are for administrative purposes only.

Feature #0301, #0302, or #0303, is required on machines participating in the XIV Standby CoD offering. The XIV CoD offering participation is defined as the presence of the feature #1119 or #1120 (4.7 TB CoD Activation) on the base unit model A14.

  • Feature #0301 is the default indicator and indicates participation under standard offering terms and conditions. This feature is designated as "manual schedule"; as such, orders with this feature will not be scheduled (accepted) until confirmation is received that the XIV Standby CoD agreements have been signed by the client.
  • Feature #0302 and #0303 are used on an exception basis only. These features are designated as "manual schedule"; as such, orders with these features will not be scheduled (accepted) until geography brand management approval is obtained and confirmation is received that the XIV Standby CoD agreements have been signed by the client.

One of the following agreements must be signed by the client prior to the acquisition of their first machine configured with XIV CoD features:

  • For clients who have a signed IBM Customer Agreement (or equivalent):
    • IBM Customer Agreement, Attachment for XIV Standby Capacity on Demand (U.S., form number Z125-8096), and
    • IBM Supplement for XIV Standby Capacity on Demand (U.S., form number Z125-8097)
  • For clients who do not have a signed IBM Customer Agreement (or equivalent):
    • IBM Agreement for XIV Standby Capacity on Demand (U.S., form number Z125-8098), and
    • IBM Supplement for XIV Standby Capacity on Demand (U.S., form number Z125-8097)

Once a client has executed either set of the above agreements, each subsequent order for any feature #1120 requires only that the customer signed an additional IBM Supplement for XIV Standby Capacity on Demand.

When a machine exits the XIV Standby CoD offering, feature #0301, #0302, or #0303 must be removed from the order. A machine exits the XIV Standby CoD offering when all activation features have been ordered in a nine or fifteen module COD configuration.
