Description

IBM FlashSystem A9000/A9000R Software v12.1 introduces reduce downtime risk for critical business applications using Hyperswap, and simplification and cost reduction of data-at-rest encryption deployment, with local key management. IBM FlashSystem A9000/A9000R continue to deliver a rich set of enterprise-level capabilities including:

  • Harness the performance of IBM FlashCore technology with highly parallel architecture, and
  • Achieve consistent performance with automatic load balancing
  • Increase data protection and system availability with enterprise-grade high availability
  • Optimize storage economics with pattern removal, deduplication and compression
  • Support multi-tenant, mixed workload clouds with enterprise-grade high availability, security and quality-of-service (QoS) features that prevent "noisy neighbors" in mixed-workload environments
  • Deliver consistent performance and exceed service level agreements for data-intensive workloads
  • Easily integrate with VMware, OpenStack, Linux and Microsoft platforms, and most infrastructures
  • Simplify storage administration with an innovative, new user interface
  • Scale resources linearly to meet cloud, analytics and cognitive business requirements (A9000R)

Data-at-rest encryption

IBM FlashSystem A9000 and IBM FlashSystem A9000R systems provide data-at-rest encryption at no charge. Software versions earlier than v12.1 require an external key server, such as the IBM Security Key Lifecycle Manager, that can be acquired separately. V12.1 allows customers to use data-at-rest-encryption, without an external key management solution, by using local key management.

Hyperswap

With IBM FlashSystem A9000 and IBM FlashSystem A9000R Hyperswap, protected workloads are not disrupted through most storage, network, server, application and site failures & disasters.

FlashSystem A9000 and A9000R Hyperswap also supports live migration of VMs using storage vMotion, across-vCenter servers and datacenters that are protected by VMware Site Recovery Manager 6.1 and up.

FlashSystem A9000 and A9000R Hyperswap is a new software capability that does not require extra licensing. Customers can obtain Hyperswap at no extra cost when they buy a new system, or upgrade to software version v12.1.

IBM FlashSystem A9000/A9000R Software V12.0 integrates the capabilities of IBM Spectrum Accelerate to deliver the following:

  • Multitenancy for flexible and simplified management of tenant data and storage resources across multiple A9000/A9000R systems
  • Inline, global deduplication and an enhanced compression engine for optimized data economics
  • Support for REST, the standard in-web services and cloud implementation, is universally supported with an agnostic programming language
  • OpenStack Cinder storage driver support
  • IBM Hyper-Scale Manager for simplified management of A9000 and A9000R systems from one interface
  • Space-efficient Redirect-on-Write snapshots

Available by June 30, 2016, additional capabilities will be included with FlashSystem A9000 and FlashSystem A9000R software including:

  • Asynchronous and synchronous replication for FlashSystem A9000 and FlashSystem A9000R
  • IBM Hyper-Scale Mobility to seamlessly and non-disruptively move data across FlashSystem A9000 systems
  • Hardware-based encryption
  • Enhanced capacity statistics within the management portal

5639-FS1, 5639-FS2, and all of its associated features will not be available in Afghanistan, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Central African Republic, Chad, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Iran, Islamic Republic of, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Moldova, Republic of, Mozambique, Namibia, Oman, Palestine State of, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, Tajikistan, Tanzania, United Republic of, Togo, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Yemen, and Zimbabwe.
