Detailed Description
This RPQ allows a client to install and run a new Power
E850C, E870C, E880C, E950 or Power E980 for up to 90
days side by side with another Power system without having to
incur
the cost of new software licenses and SWMA for the new P8 or P9
system based on the understanding that the client will transfer
their Power Systems software and its associated SWMA licenses from
the existing Power System installed in the client's enterprise to
the new Power E870C/E880C/E950/E980 that is replacing it. The new
Power
E850C/E870C/E880C/E950/E980 CEC's being installed
can be part of either a serial number protected upgrade from a
Power
770+/780+ to a Power E870, E870C, E880 or E880C, a serial-number
protected
upgrade or from a Power E870/E880/E870C/E880C to a Power E980
or a new Power E850C/E870C/E880C/E950/E980 with
its own unique new serial number.
This RPQ provides temporary Power Systems software licenses and
the associated SWMA in the same number of licensed cores that
were available on the Power System being replaced for up to 90
days from the time the CE Code 20s the system. In addition, in
the case of a serial number protected upgrade from a Power
| 770+/780+ to a Power E870C/E880C or from a Power
E870/E880/E870C/E880C
to a Power E980 the client is also
entitlled to retain the -Return MES parts- and one additional
service trip to complete the MES installation for up to 90 days
from the date the CE initially went out to install the Power
| E870C/E880C/E980.
GENERAL ASSUMPTIONS:
Authorized usage period is 90 days. The time period starts on
either the Code 20 date of an initial install or the first day
that the IBM Service Representative records any time for the
MES upgrade installation. The SSR must complete the MES
upgrade installation and ship back to IBM the Return MES parts
within 90 days records of the first day that the IBM Service
Representative records any time for the MES upgrade installation.
No additional hardware or software is provided as part of this
RPQ and all references herein apply to IBM hardware and software
only.
Any third-party hardware or software arrangements must be made
directly with the third party.
Due to the complexity of the planning and preparation needed to
ensure a successful side-by-side upgrade operation, the customer
and sales/SSR are encouraged to utilize the guidance and
information contained in this document (see section
below--CONSIDERATIONS PRIOR TO MES ORDERING). In addition, it
is strongly recommended to consider a separate service or
services contract in preparation for and before ordering the
MES upgrade.
For assistance, contact IBM Global Services (IGS), the ITS
(IBM Technical Support) group.
HARDWARE ASSUMPTIONS:
No additional hardware is provided by IBM as part of this RPQ.
All necessary hardware to support the side-by-side system
operation period is the responsibility of the customer.
In the case of a serial number protected upgrade, the customer is
responsible for validating the MES ordered will result in two
fully functional systems. Any features that could have been
moved if not required for the side-by-side system
operation must be included in the validation considerations.
The only valid serial number protected upgrade that this RPQ is
valid for is:
9117-MMD to a 9119-MME/MHE
9179-MHD to 9119-MHE
| 9117-MMD to 9080-MME/MHE
| 9179-MHD to 9080-MHE
9119-MME to 9080-M9S
9119-MHE to 9080-M9S
9080-MME to 9080-M9S
9080-MHE to 9080-M9S
Software Assumptions
It is assumed that the client will be transferring their software
licenses and SWMA from an existing Power System to the new Power
| E850C/E870C/E880C/E950/E980 within 90 days of the
installation
| of the new system or Model Upgrade MES. The
client is
only allowed to use the same Power Systems software and only in
the
| same quantity on the new Power
E850C/E870C/E880C/E950/E980
that is being currently licensed on the Power System that is being
replaced. In addition, clients that develop Power Systems software
issues during the 90 day side by side migration period must use
the
same MTM/serial number of the system that the software is
currently
licensed on when calling into the IBM Software support center.
This
practice will ensure they continue to recieve software support on
both the existing Power System and the new Power
| E850C/E870C/E880C/E950/E980 during the 90 day migration period.
CONSIDERATIONS FOR SERIAL NUMBER PROTECTED UPGRADES PRIOR TO MES
ORDERING:
A new machine shipped from IBM is shipped with the intent it be
functionally ready -to go-. An MES upgrade from one model to
another often uses components from the original machine to
leverage the customer's original investment. Removal of these
components from the original hardware configuration may make the
originating system nonfunctional. This is a problem if the intent
is to run two systems -side by side-. Therefore, the customer (or
their agent) needs to ensure the MES upgrade shipped contains
enough components to not only be a minimal functional system, but
also to meet the needs of the customer's migration plan/schedule.
For example, a minimum functional system always requires a
processor, memory, console attachment and load-source/boot-drive
device, disk/SSD Controller or Fibre Channel adapter. Or another
example, the customer would need to ensure enough disk
controllers,
I/O drawers, etc, have been configured on a model upgrade to
handle
desired storage configurations. See the IBM sales manual for more
information on minimum configuration.
The customer or their agent should configure and validate the MES
upgrade. Tools such as the SPT and IBM Marketing Configurator are
very helpful. After validation is completed, the customer or their
agent must add all necessary additional features to the ordered
equipment to meet their side-by-side requirements. Many of the
additions may be done using the marketing configurator Some
additions/changes may not be supported by the marketing
configurator
and will require keying the feature codes directly into the
ordering system (AAS or WTAAS). After the side-by-side upgrade is
completed, it will be the customer's responsibility to get the IBM
records updated to reflect the actual resulting configuration.
This
will ensure there are no erroneous maintenance charges and that
future upgrades are planned and configured using an accurate
starting configuration. Record Purpose Only (RPO) changes may be
used to add/delete additional/unnecessary features (which are
customer owned) that were required to support the side-by-side
upgrade; ie, powercords, modem cables, load-source/boot-drive
devices/adapters, etc.
**** IMPORTANT **** Running the configurator does not guarantee a
working side-by-side configuration for a specific customer or
customer migration scenario. It is the responsibility of the
customer or their agent to know that what they are ordering can
run
as a valid configuration without removing any components from the
originating system which make it an invalid configuration. This
configuration activity requires very good knowledge of the Power
hardware and software.Sales personnel researching the MES upgrade
contents may wish to ask their technical support team for
assistance.
Removed parts are to be returned to IBM as defined in the MES with
the only consideration being the defined extension of time to do
so.
