Detailed Description
DEFINITION OF SWMA FOR AIX* -OFFERING MODIFICATION-
Software Maintenance (SWMA) provides end customers with two
important -entitlements-.
- The right to receive new major and minor revisions to the
AIX software products (Upgrades) (5799-SBS)
- The right to contact the IBM support organization for questions
about software operation and the investigation of software defects
(Remote Support) (5799-SPT)
The Upgrade portion of SWMA is known as -Subscription Service- and
the Remote Support portion is known as -Support Service-.
This PRPQ (5799-SPT) is ordered for customers wishing to obtain
support service only for the AIX Operating System.
Offering Modification of AIX SWMA refers to the deletion of one
or the other of these service entitlements when a customer initiates
or renews SWMA coverage on existing installed IBM eServer*
pSeries* equipment.
New pSeries systems purchased after January 28, 2003
with AIX operating system license(s) ordered with any AIX supported
system requires a full SWMA for AIX Operating System contract to be
ordered in conjunction with the AIX Operating System license(s)
order. Modification of SWMA for AIX entitlements will not be
considered on any new hardware purchases. All new pSeries hardware
purchases with an AIX license(s) requested will continue to require
a minimum of one year of support and subscription services for each
AIX operating system license(s). Modification of SWMA for AIX
entitlements will only be considered for customers renewing expiring
existing service coverage or initiating SWMA coverage on
systems where no coverage currently exists.
The modification of SWMA for AIX does not extend to AIX licensed
programs such as HACMP*, PSSP, Developer Toolkit, or other
-layered products-. Offering Modification of SWMA coverage on
licensed programs is not allowed and this process cannot be
used to propose or implement Offering Modification of SWMA on
licensed programs.
PURPOSE OF SWMA OFFERING MODIFICATION
AIX SWMA Offering Modification is designed to add flexibility to the
AIX Software Maintenance offering. Many customers have expectations
based on the terms and conditions of past service offerings. The
introduction of SWMA for AIX in January 2003 changed the
service alternatives available to them. However, their practices
and budgets continue to be based on old service offerings which are
no longer available. AIX SWMA Offering Modification seeks to
restore some of the service alternatives previously available to
customers in order to avoid the loss of pSeries hardware business.
AIX SWMA Offering Modification should only be used in the most
extreme circumstances. Use of discounting, special bids, and IGS
special contract vehicles should be aggressively used and it is
only when these options cannot produce a satisfactory customer
solution that AIX SWMA Offering Modification should be
considered.
There will NOT be a general public announcement of AIX SWMA
Offering Modification to either customers, IBM sales
representatives, IBM Business Partners, or IBM OEM customers.
CRITERIA FOR AIX SWMA OFFERING MODIFICATION CONSIDERATION
If the customer's concerns are not able to be addressed during the
normal special bid process or otherwise, the IBM sales representa-
tive or IBM Business Partner shall utilize this SWMA Offering
Modification Process. Prior use of the normal special bid process
is the only criteria for usage of this SWMA Offering Modification
process. IBM sales representatives and IBM Business Partners are
encouraged to thoroughly explore alternatives within the special bid
process to achieve customer satisfaction prior to utilizing this
SWMA Offering Modification Process.
PROCESS DEFINITION
A. The AIX SWMA Offering Modification is the ultimate step in the
Special Bid process. This step cannot be reached
without initiating a Special Bid.
B. Two standing AIX SWMA Offering Modification Executive Review
(ASOMER) meetings per week, ΒΌ hour in duration, will be
scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Tuesday meeting will be
scheduled in the evening to facilitate AP and US West Coast
participation. The Thursday meeting will be scheduled for the
morning to facilitate EMEA and Americas participation.
C. The purpose of the ASOMER meetings is to make a decision to
approve or not approve AIX SWMA Offering Maintenance for a
specific account situation.
Applicants should expect a decision at the meeting. If there are
no applicants for consideration the meeting can be cancelled
at the discretion of the Chairman or used to discuss topics of
concern to the team.
D. The Manager of AIX Service and Support will schedule and
facilitate the meetings. He or she will have the sole approval
responsibility for AIX SWMA Offering Modification decisions.
Executive approval will be from the Director of pSeries
Customer Satisfaction.
E. Participation in these meetings will consist of:
1) The Manager of AIX Service and Support (chairman)
2) The pSeries worldwide SWMA Team (required)
3) pSeries pricers from each geography (required)
4) ITS pricers from each geography (required)
5) pSeries sales executives from each geography (required)
6) CSO/BPSO representative for each geography (required)
7) Account team including Business Partner (required)
8) ITS worldwide SWMA executive (optional)
9) pSeries sales operations representatives from each geography
(optional)
F. Procedure
1) Account team pursues pricing, discounting, special bid and
special contract alternatives with geography pSeries and ITS
pricers.
2) Geography pSeries pricers, ITS pricers, and account team agree
that discounting and/or IGS special contract will not satisfy
the customer and escalation to the AIX SWMA Offering
Modification Executive Review (ASOMER) is necessary.
3) Account Team contacts ASOMER meeting scheduler to reserve spot
on next available ASOMER meeting. Account Team provides issue
summary, estimate and timing of potential lost business,
customer business rationale for AIX SWMA Offering Modification
request, and account sales plan to secure business. We expect
to review what pSeries business is at risk, the steps already
taken to deal with the situation, if and how AIX SWMA
Offering Modification will contribute to the solution, and
exactly how the account team intends to proceed to win the
business if SWMA Offering Modification is approved.
4) ASOMER meeting scheduler sends out meeting notice and
appropriate attachments. Representatives from all geographies
should attempt to attend all meetings, regardless of the
geographic location of the account to be discussed. We
desire to maximize the exchange of ideas across
geographies and to facilitate solutions and approaches being
consistently implemented in all geographies as much as
possible.
5) Meeting is held and account situation is reviewed. Attendees
voice their inputs on possible alternative courses of action.
Manager of AIX Service and Support makes decision on whether
or not to allow AIX SWMA Offering Modification for this
account.
6) If AIX SWMA Offering Modification is authorized, appropriate
notice is sent to Account Team, CSO/BPSO representative,
geography pSeries and ITS pricers so order can be appropriate-
ly processed and entitled. Account details added to AIX SWMA
Offering Modification Activity List which is provided to the
RED Team, pSeries, iSeries, and ITS Executive management on a
monthly basis. ASOMER meeting coordinator is responsible for
disseminating the approvals and AIX SWMA Offering Modification
Activity List.
7) Two I-listed PRPQs will be created that will provide only
Support or only Subscription (ie, one I-listed PRPQ will
cover Support, 5799-SPT, and the other I-listed PRPQ will
cover Subscription, 5799-SBS). The I-listed PRPQ covering
Support will be entitled in the ITS entitlement databases.
The I-listed PRPQs will have a 1 year term and cannot be
renewed. Reapplication and approval will be required annually
for those customers approved for use of the I-listed PRPQs.
