With the new and improved dashboards included in Platform Analytics V9.1, dashboards, managers, and administrators can be instantly productive, with access to information provided by the preconfigured Platform analytics workbooks:

Intuitive, customizable interface -- reduce training and improve productivity
Platform Analytics provides users, administrators, and executives with an intuitive interface that can be viewed through either a configurable web portal or a desktop running Microsoft Windows . Designed for ease of use, this web-based interface is simple to learn, and results are achieved quickly, with minimal effort. Since the dashboards are preconfigured and provide valuable information about resources and workloads upon installation, users can be immediately productive and quickly gain insights into how resources are being used and by whom. Using the drag-and-drop capability of the interface, the included dashboards can be altered or new dashboards created. Users can also drill into infrastructure or workload accounting data by project, queue, and user, and obtain valuable information for any period of interest.
IBM Platform Analytics is also tightly integrated with IBM Platform Application Center, which is part of the IBM Platform LSF product family. The integration makes it more efficient to access the capabilities of Platform Analytics using a single integrated interface. V9.1 simplifies and adds report generation enhancements to this integration, including the capability to:
Integration of external data -- simplify data analysis
With some reporting systems, answering business-level questions requires the development of custom reports or the transformation of underlying data into formats better suited to the question being asked. Custom reports are not only time consuming to produce, but they require considerable expertise on the part of the person developing them. In comparison, Platform Analytics is flexible and extensible. Existing or new data sources can be rapidly combined with Platform Analytics data to provide data views tailored specifically to your unique requirements, without the need to build intermediate data views. You can connect to cluster, workload, and license data in a few clicks, then visualize and create interactive dashboards.
High-performance database -- shorter time to results with less infrastructure
Platform Analytics includes a high-end massively parallel processing columnar database which runs on dual socket x86 hardware with Gigabit Ethernet or InfiniBand and uses a fraction of the resources of traditional database management systems. Queries and data loading happen in parallel. In addition, data is stored in a compressed format, minimizing the time required to perform all data operations. This means that not only do queries and loading operations perform far better, but they also do so with far less infrastructure. This translates directly into capital and ongoing operational savings. With some common queries on a distributed database, performance can be improved by up to two orders of magnitude.
With the V9.1 release, Platform Analytics provides the option to load Platform Symphony resource and workload data into a transactional database with a flat table structure. It supports the massive scalability required in Platform Symphony environments and is architected for collecting data from multiple clusters exceeding 50,000 cores and workloads exceeding 100,000,000 tasks per day.
Job and resource reporting -- monitor and optimize resources to control costs
Platform Analytics enables users and administrators to visualize job and resource data in multiple ways. By understanding how resources are used, scheduling policies can be adjusted, resulting in better resource utilization and greater overall efficiency.
Trend analysis -- simplified, yet more effective decision making
Platform Analytics turns raw data into usable information, making changes in usage patterns easy to identify. By understanding how the need for different applications and hardware is evolving with time, planners can make better decisions, intercept trends, consolidate under-utilized assets more quickly, and help ensure that spending is efficient and aligned to business needs.
Operational reporting -- validate planning assumptions and help ensure that SLAs are met
Platform Analytics provides full visibility to data center operations, allowing managers to validate their planning assumptions constantly and make midcourse corrections quickly in order to meet SLAs. In addition, they can help ensure that business-critical projects have ample resource. By monitoring key metrics such as pending time and license denials, planners can help determine that business users have access to resources when they need them and at the lowest possible cost.
Operational reporting includes monitoring and optimizing application licenses allocation, which is particularly important when using expensive or high-demand ISV applications. Platform Analytics V9.1 includes an updated FlexLM License Usage workbook with enhanced dashboards for improved analysis of average and peak license usage. The integration with FlexNet Manager (FNM) means that FlexLM license usage can be mapped to the workloads, and license usage can be accurately accounted for (to the second). This capability also accounts for short running license usage that may otherwise be missed, as well as improved reporting on license denials.
Resource and service-level analysis -- quickly identify and remove bottlenecks
By analyzing resource use and service levels, administrators can quickly identify issues affecting productivity. Platform Analytics enables administrators to drill into exactly where and why bottlenecks are occurring. This enables them to quickly correct issues that, without the insights provided by Platform Analytics, might otherwise lead to incremental costs.
Usage reporting -- more easily chargeback for resource usage
Some organizations need to apportion costs between client departments based on actual resource usage. By combining resource, license, and job-level data, administrators can track and view resource usage by user, department, or project. The rich capabilities of Platform Analytics make it an ideal platform on which to build sophisticated chargeback accounting solutions, reflecting an organization's own unique policies and accounting practices.
Platform Analytics V9.1 includes key resource usage statistics for both Platform LSF and Platform Symphony environments. Specifically for Platform Symphony , this includes:
In addition, usage reporting can be analyzed based on workload accounting, which includes session reporting, task reporting, resource allocation versus task run time and chargeback. The preconfigured "workload accounting" dashboard provides accounting reporting for any period based on cluster, consumer, application, session or host. This enables you to identify how much workload has been run for any period. The "allocation versus workload" dashboard reports on the workload that has run under the allocation. This can be reported by cluster, resource group, consumer, or any combination of these. Finally, the "session history" dashboard provides accounting reporting for any finished session. These can be ranked by the duration, number of tasks, task run time, and so on. It provides metrics including duration, task success, run time, data size, max run, and max pending tasks.

The performance of Platform Analytics depends upon many factors, including the number of nodes in the cluster, the number of concurrently executing jobs, the number of pending jobs, and the retention period for data. It is also dependent upon the performance of the underlying hardware. Complex reports accessing data over a long period of time may result in millions or even billions of records being retrieved. Both the analytical engine and the underlying database are designed to scale out; adding additional nodes will increase the performance of the overall system.
IBM Electronic Support
The IBM Support Portal is your gateway to technical support. This includes IBM Electronic Support tools and resources, for software and hardware, to help save time and simplify support. The Electronic Support tools can help you find answers to questions, download fixes, troubleshoot, automate data collection, submit and track problems through the Service Request online tool, and build skills. All these tools are made available through your IBM support agreement, at no additional charge.
You must provide at least the minimum hardware and software environments in which the program will operate. It is recommended to assign a systems administrator who has responsibility for planning, installation, maintaining, and administering Platform Analytics.
While the installation and upgrade procedures for IBM Platform Analytics V9.1 have been tested carefully, as with any installation or upgrade, it is prudent to ensure that backups exist and to prepare for the installation or upgrade in advance.
Platform Analytics V9.1 is functionally the same as prior versions. However, Platform Analytics V9.1 no longer uses FlexLM for licensing. Clients who are currently using Analytics 7 may contact your local Platform Computing seller for configuration or licensing assistance.

Concurrent User is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A Concurrent User is a person who is accessing the program at any particular point in time. Regardless of whether the person is simultaneously accessing the program multiple times, the person counts only as a single Concurrent User. The program may be installed on any number of computers or servers, but licensee must obtain entitlements for the maximum number of Concurrent Users simultaneously accessing the program. Licensee must obtain an entitlement for each simultaneous Concurrent User accessing the program in any manner directly or indirectly (for example, via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means.
Note: Some programs may be licensed where devices are considered users. In that case, the following applies. Any computing device that requests the execution of or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from the program or that is otherwise managed by the program is considered a separate user of the program and requires an entitlement as if that device were a person.
Install is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An install is an installed copy of the program on a physical or virtual disk made available to be executed on a computer. Licensee must obtain an entitlement for each install of the program.
Resource Value Unit (RVU)
RVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. RVU Proofs of Entitlement are based on the number of units of a specific resource used or managed by the program. The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and convenience purposes only. The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage , where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.
These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

Limited warranty applies
IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.
IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, consult the IBM Software Support Handbook found at
IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).
If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.
For clarification, note that:
- For programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program.

Product upgrades provide the latest versions and releases to entitled software and Technical Support provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations, worldwide.
IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support with each program license acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available.
While your Software Subscription and Support is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. Now integrated into the base operating system of AIX 5.3, AIX 6.1, and AIX 7.1, Electronic Service Agent is designed to automatically and electronically report system failures and utilization issues to IBM , which can result in faster problem resolution and increased availability. System configuration and inventory information collected by the Electronic Service Agent tool also can be viewed on the secure Electronic Support web portal, and used to improve problem determination and resolution by you and the IBM support team. To access the tool main menu, simply type "smitty esa_main", and select "Configure Electronic Service Agent ." In addition, ESA now includes a powerful web user interface, giving the administrator easy access to status, tool settings, problem information, and filters. The IBM Electronic Support portal is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. This portal enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems. The My Systems and Premium Search functions make it even easier for Electronic Service Agent tool-enabled customers to track system inventory and find pertinent fixes.
Increased uptime: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to enhance the Warranty or Maintenance Agreement by providing faster hardware error reporting and uploading system information to IBM Support. This can translate to less wasted time monitoring the "symptoms," diagnosing the error, and manually calling IBM Support to open a problem record. Its 24 x 7 monitoring and reporting mean no more dependence on human intervention or off-hours customer personnel when errors are encountered in the middle of the night.
Security: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to be secure in monitoring, reporting, and storing the data at IBM . The Electronic Service Agent tool securely transmits either via the Internet (HTTPS or VPN) or modem, and can be configured to communicate securely through gateways to provide customers a single point of exit from their site. Communication is one way. Activating Electronic Service Agent does not enable IBM to call into a customer's system. System inventory information is stored in a secure database, which is protected behind IBM firewalls. It is viewable only by the customer and IBM . The customer's business applications or business data is never transmitted to IBM .
More accurate reporting: Since system information and error logs are automatically uploaded to the IBM Support center in conjunction with the service request, customers are not required to find and send system information, decreasing the risk of misreported or misdiagnosed errors. Once inside IBM , problem error data is run through a data knowledge management system and knowledge articles are appended to the problem record.
Customized support: Using the IBM ID entered during activation, customers can view system and support information in the "My Systems" and "Premium Search" sections of the Electronic Support website at
My Systems provides valuable reports of installed hardware and software using information collected from the systems by Electronic Service Agent . Reports are available for any system associated with the customer's IBM ID. Premium Search combines the function of search and the value of Electronic Service Agent information, providing advanced search of the technical support knowledgebase. Using Premium Search and the Electronic Service Agent information that has been collected from your system, customers are able to see search results that apply specifically to their systems.
