Overview
Bottom rule

Presence Zones V1.0 is an intelligent, location-based technology that helps provide deep insight to in-store shopper behavior. It is delivered as an on-premise software solution that detects and analyzes the movement of shoppers in a store location by using WiFi signals from mobile smartphones and tablet devices.

Unlike current in-store, location-based solutions that only analyze historical shopper traffic patterns, Presence Zones can help retailers deliver a unified customer experience across all channels. It can engage shoppers in real time with contextually-relevant interactions and can help optimize store operations to differentiate the brand.

Presence Zones can help retailers:

Description
Bottom rule

It is increasingly rare for an individual to travel anywhere without carrying some type of mobile device. Mobile smartphones and tablets are equipped with multiple communication and sensor technologies. Such capabilities make them not only communication devices, but an important source of presence data. The influence of mobile technology and location-aware devices is changing the dynamic between customer and retailer so that the lines between the digital and the physical are becoming blurred. To deliver a seamless and consistent brand experience across all channels, retailers need the ability to capture and analyze in-store behavior to better serve their customers and differentiate their brand.

By using intelligent, location-based technology, Presence Zones monitors network activity of mobile devices that interact with the venue's WiFi system. This allows retailers to engage shoppers in real time and enhance the in-store shopping experience.

Key components of the Presence Zones solution

Presence Zones Enterprise Server

The Presence Zones Enterprise Server comprises the main functionality of the Presence Zones solution. Core functionality driven by the Enterprise Server includes:

Presence Zones Sensors

The Presence Zones Sensor software deployed in the physical venue "listens" to transmissions from WiFi-enabled devices. It captures the unique media access control identifier (MAC ID) of the device and sends information about the strength and amount of transmissions to the Presence Zones Enterprise Server. The location of the device is calculated based on the information about that device received from the sensors in the venue.

Presence Zones data warehouse and reporting server

The extract, transform, and load module transfers data from the production databases to a data warehouse for the reporting server. The reporting server uses Cognos® Business Intelligence technology to create reports based on historical information about registered and unregistered WiFi-enabled devices in the venue.

Differentiating capabilities

Unlike current in-store, location-based solutions that only analyze historical shopper traffic patterns, Presence Zones can help differentiate your brand by engaging shoppers in real time with contextually relevant interactions to help deliver a unified customer experience across all channels. Presence Zones delivers these unique capabilities:

Unique shopper scenarios

The resources for the purpose of RVU calculation are Stores where the program is installed. A Store is each physical mercantile establishment where goods and services are offered for sale. Store formats are as follows.

Resource Value Unit conversion

The RVU scaling table is a step-tiered model, meaning that each quantity tier must be multiplied by the scaling factor for that tier, and the RVU quantity for each tier added together to calculate the total RVU quantity.RVU quantities must be calculated separately for each chargeable component.

Number of
resources RVUs per resource

   1 to 20 1.00
  21 to 50 20 plus 0.83 per resource above 20

Statement of good security practices
Bottom rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered destroyed or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective. IBM does not warrant that systems and products are immune from the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
