Overview

WebSphere™ Application Server, V2.0.3 Standard Edition is now available for Linux. It deploys and manages Java™-based server-side applications that extend the value and versatility of your Web server with:

  • SSL security for the IBM HTTP Server
  • Tivoli-ready modules for the WebSphere Server environment
  • Reduced cost of deploying applications on all WebSphere-compliant platforms with the use of industry-standard tools in an enhanced administration and interface environment
  • HTTP servers from IBM and Apache (Apache is source code only)

A Web browser that supports HTML4, and Java Development Kit 1.1.7a, and one of the following Linux operating system environments:

  • Red Hat 6.0 (kernel level 2.2.5 or 2.2.10, and later)
  • Red Hat 5.2 (kernel level 2.0.37, and later)

Description

WebSphere Application Server V2.0.3, Standard Edition for Linux is a comprehensive Java-based Web application platform. The server combines the control and portability of server-side business applications with the performance and manageability of Java technologies.

Version 2.0.3 manages and integrates enterprise-wide applications, leveraging open Java-based technologies and APIs. It enables interaction with enterprise databases and transaction systems, has an open and flexible Web application run-time environment, and includes the following features:

  • Full Java support for latest APIs
  • Quick and easy installation
  • Easy-to-use servlet management and control
  • Support for dynamic Web content generation, including use of JSPs, servlet applications, and JavaBeans technology
  • A function-rich IBM HTTP server (based on technology from the Apache HTTP server) with SSL-based security and performance features
  • Tivoli-ready modules that can be managed by Tivoli-based tools
  • Administrative client with a GUI for application deployment and server administration
  • XML Document Structure Services which enable e-business applications that interchange data via XML to parse, generate, manipulate, and validate XML- and XSL-based content
  • A graphical interface for servlet management:
    • Set options for loading local and remote servlet
    • Set initialization parameters
    • Specify servlet aliases
    • Create servlet chains and filters
