IBM® Storage Utility offerings include IBM Cloud™ Object Storage models that enable variable capacity usage and billing.

These models offer a fixed total capacity, with an available base and variable usage subscription of that total capacity. The built-in measurement tool in IBM Cloud Object Storage Manager 3105 (3401-M01 and 3403-M01) is used to monitor system capacity usage. It is used to report on capacity used beyond the base subscription capacity, referred to as variable usage. The variable capacity usage is billed on a quarterly basis, enabling you to grow or shrink usage, and only pay for configured capacity.

The base system subscription is required to be facilitated through a three-year lease. The variable usage capacity will be billed through MES system upgrades for the capacity used.

These systems are available worldwide, but there are specific client and program differences by location. Consult with your IBM Business Partner or sales person for complete details.

Top rule

Cloud Object Storage Utility offerings are for clients that can benefit from a variable capacity system, where billing is based on the actual provisioned space above the base subscription. The base subscription is covered by a three-year lease that entitles the client to utilize the base capacity at no additional cost.

The usage data collected by the built-in measurement tool in Cloud Object Storage Manager 3105 will be used by IBM to determine the actual physical data provisioned in the system. This data will be compared to the base system capacity subscription, and any provisioned capacity beyond that base subscription will be billed per terabyte, per month, on a quarterly basis. The calculated usage is based on the average use over a given month. In a highly variable environment such as managed or cloud service providers, this enables the system to be utilized only as much as is necessary during any given month. Usage may increase or decrease, and will be billed accordingly.

A customer has a qualified Cloud Object Storage Utility offering configuration including twelve Slicestors 2448 (3401-S01), each of which contains forty-eight 6 TB HDDs, for a total system raw capacity of 3456 TB. The base subscription for such a system is 30% of the raw capacity of the system (1036.8 TB). During the months where the average daily usage is below 1036.8 TB, there is no additional billing.

The system will monitor daily provisioned capacity and will average those daily usage rates over the month term. The result is the average daily usage for the month.

If a customer uses 1250 TB, 3199.5 TB, and 1799.2 TB in three consecutive months, the built-in measurement tool in the Cloud Object Storage Manager will calculate the overage as follows (rounding to the nearest terabyte):

Average daily terabytes Base Overage To be billed
1250 TB 1036.8 TB 213.2 TB 213 TB
2199.5 TB 1036.8 TB 1162.7 TB 1163 TB
1799.2 TB 1036.8 TB 762.4 TB 762 TB

The capacity billed at the end of the quarter will be a total of 2138 TB-months in this example, which is the sum of the overage of each of the months. A quantity of 21 of feature number AJE3, 3 of feature number AJE2, and eight of feature number AJE1 will be ordered as MES against the Cloud Object Storage Manager 3105.

IBM Electronic Services

Top rule

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.

To learn how Electronic Services can work for you, go to the IBM Electronic Service Agent website.
