WebSphere Service Registry and Repository V8.5 delivers a faster and more simplified user interface, which is self-contained within WebSphere Service Registry and Repository It adds support for the Google Chrome browser and the latest Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer browser releases. Usability enhancements enabled proactive consumer notification upon service change and provided additional filter and download options. Support for IIB WLM policy specification and management for usage with IIB objects modeled in WebSphere Service Registry and Repository (for example, services and workflows) was added. WebSphere Service Registry and Repository helps to maximize and the value and usage of your SOA. This solution enables you to publish, find, enrich, manage, and govern services and policies in your SOA.

SOA has the potential to drive business flexibility, performance, and innovation by better aligning your information technologies to your business objectives. Publish, find, enrich, manage, and govern
The publish and find capabilities of WebSphere Service Registry and Repository promote service reuse in SOA projects by allowing greater visibility of and easier access to existing services. The service discovery engine discovers services on WebSphere Application Server and other application server platforms, WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus, and Microsoft.Net platforms, providing an accurate record of deployed services in your SOA. Faceted search offers a natural and user-friendly way to find services by allowing you to progressively refine search results with attributes, document types, and classification. In addition, full-text search capability is available to search both metadata and the contents of documents stored in the system.
WebSphere Service Registry and Repository helps in quickly creating or modifying business processes using existing services. A powerful query mechanism allows you to search and find the services that best fit the requirements of a given process.
The enrich capability enables dynamic and efficient access to services information by both runtime applications and processes that facilitate better connectivity and efficiency. WebSphere Service Registry and Repository increases runtime flexibility of applications via an enterprise service bus (ESB) by enabling selection of services and enforcement of SLA policy that is based on service metadata
Optimize service usage
The manage capability enables management of service metadata, service interactions, service dependencies, and service redundancies. You can classify services that are based on business objectives, manage policies for service usage, and monitor how services are changed and versioned. Also, you can link related documents (such as, PDF files) to service metadata. This capability helps you optimize the use of services in an SOA by exchanging rich service metadata with runtime monitoring tools and operational data stores.

It allows you to consistently enforce the most current policies in your SOA. These policies are discovered and interpreted dynamically during run time.

Federate with other SOA repositories
WebSphere Service Registry and Repository federates with other SOA repositories to enable governance and management of the complete service lifecycle. At the model and assemble phases, WebSphere Service Registry and Repository is complemented by repositories that specialize in managing SOA development artifacts. In the deploy phase and manage phase, WebSphere Service Registry and Repository can work with configuration management databases to acquire and manage operational details of your IT infrastructure. Integration with IBM Tivoli® Change and Configuration Management Database (CCMDB) provides governance and impact analysis capabilities across services and the underlying infrastructure.
Synchronization with Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI) registries allows entries created via a UDDI V3-capable product to be synchronized with entries in WebSphere Service Registry and Repository. Web Services Description Language document entries (that were created in UDDI following Best Practice: "Using Web Services Description language in a UDDI Registry" or Technical Note: "Using Web Services Description Language in a UDDI Registry, V2.0.2") can be mapped, created, and maintained by including their metadata.
Policy documents stored in UDDI can also be mapped in WebSphere Service Registry and Repository. The support is bidirectional. This means that documents created in WebSphere Service Registry and Repository can be mapped into UDDI conversely.
Enable governance and lifecycle management of high-value applications
WebSphere Service Registry and Repository helps your high-value applications to participate fully in enterprise SOA. WebSphere Service Registry and Repository is the product in the WebSphere portfolio, which provides service design time and run-time governance of services and other objects. WebSphere Service Registry and Repository integrates with IBM and third-party middleware products. Design time governance
Publish and Find of services or other objects are the table stakes of a good SOA design time governance tool. WebSphere Service Registry and Repository deals with Publish and Find as a pair, as they are so closely related. The objective for these capabilities is to encourage socialization of service assets and their associated metadata. During the model and assemble phases of the service life cycle, one would use WebSphere Service Registry and Repository to publish service information and govern the lifecycle transition of services.
Service information is published to the repository and metadata is used to locate services. Consumer relationships with provider services or other relationships between services or objects is recorded and used for impact analysis. WebSphere Service Registry and Repository provides a variety of rich find capabilities to allow location of candidate service, as well as design time governance policies that govern the interactions. WebSphere Service Registry and Repository is also used to publish and govern service metadata about emerging, to-be-deployed services in the service lifecycle.
For runtime, WebSphere Service Registry and Repository functions as a centralized metadata repository for access of metadata at runtime and a Policy Administration Point (PAP) that authors and manages policy to be applied to service, workflows, or other object. Policy and metadata may be used by the middleware that functions as a Policy Enforcement Point (PEP). WebSphere Service Registry and Repository manages policies that are associated with services, so that you can deploy and enforce these policies at service runtime.
SOA runtime management and resilience within the SOA is enhanced by sharing the service metadata that exists in WebSphere Service Registry and Repository with operational data stores. It allows management and monitoring dashboards to present a more comprehensive view of the managed service environment.
Any metadata or policy information is available to be accessed from WebSphere Service Registry and Repository by a set of APIs. Therefore, WebSphere Service Registry and Repository serves as a centralized metadata repository, and can be used by any IBM or third-party software.
WebSphere Service Registry and Repository works with WebSphere DataPower® at runtime as a gateway in the DMZ or a lightweight enterprise service bus (ESB) in the trusted zone. It combines in-depth services management with the management of WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere MQ and Message Server environments, and monitoring of virtual servers and operating systems. This function provides for the coordination of WebSphere Service Registry and Repository governance object approval with Process Server interaction with human agents to inform them of the change and ask for their approval.

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.
This software license includes Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance).
Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance
The IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance (Z125-6011) applies for Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) and does not require customer signatures.
These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

Limited warranty applies
IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.
IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, consult the IBM Software Support Handbook found at
IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).
Program technical support
Technical support of a program product will be available for a minimum of five years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect.
If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.
For clarification, note that (1) for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program and (2) for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

Yes. Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is included with licenses purchased through Passport Advantage and Passport Advantage Express. Product upgrades and Technical Support are provided by the Software Subscription and Support offering as described in the Agreements. Product upgrades provide the latest versions and releases to entitled software and Technical Support provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations, worldwide.
IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support with each program license acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available.
While your Software Subscription and Support is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. Yes.
