IBM® Intelligent Transportation on Cloud V1.5 addresses the growing need for a software-centric solution for managing transportation business operations. It is based on aggregating information to obtain system-wide visibility and generating new insights enabled by advanced analytics to drive operational decisions.

This release offers capabilities for traffic and transit operations management, which helps to gain current situational awareness of the network, identify incidents, and correct performance issues, proactively manage traffic conditions and transit schedule deviations, and contribute significantly to improving the commuter experience.

This release includes the Intelligent Operations Center into the base component as well as introduces the transit operations functionality to the market through a new Intelligent Transit Analytics on IBM SmartCloud™ component.

The Intelligent Transportation on Cloud V1.5 is offered as several separately chargeable components (CC). The base component is Intelligent Operations for Transportation on IBM SmartCloud , which is available as two separate CCs with their own distinct part numbers:

Intelligent Transportation on Cloud V1.5 also introduces a sub-domain-focused component called Intelligent Transit Analytics on IBM SmartCloud . It offers all the transit operations associated value.

Intelligent Transit Analytics on IBM SmartCloud requires and has a functional dependency on Intelligent Operations for Transportation Premium User on IBM SmartCloud .

Intelligent Transportation on Cloud V1.5 helps offer intelligence and insight, system-wide information integration, and an improved citizen experience. It provides centralized management of traffic operations, traffic event information, and predictive analytics using data that is collected across geographic locations. By integrating and aggregating traffic condition and event data from systems and their variety of capture devices, and by supporting analytics value on top of that data, Intelligent Transportation V1.5 can help provide situational awareness and critical insights to enhance the operational effectiveness of traffic operations.

The foundation of Intelligent Transportation is its Intelligent Operations for Transportation. This component supports the transportation information model on top of which additional analytics and end-user value can be built. It also supports the basic platform for visualization and analysis of historical data patterns. In particular, Intelligent Operations for Transportation is designed to:

Premium Users

Premium Users are those who interact with the advanced functions of the software program (but not limited to), implement business process changes, set rules and thresholds, and define metrics and hierarchies. They have access to all administrative and advanced functions (refer to the following table).

The Premium User contains the program code (via media pack) and therefore clients must purchase at least one Premium User before they can use Standard Users or the Transit Analytics component.

Standard Users

Standard Users are those who do not need advanced capability access to all of the functions of the software program and do not have administrative access (administrative personnel need to ensure that these restrictions are in place for Standard Users per the license terms of the software). They are limited to certain functions (refer to the following table). Clients must purchase at least one Premium User before they can use Standard Users.

Advantages of the software as a service (SaaS) model

On-premise installations require resources from IT departments, that need to understand the details of the solution components, manage those components, and provide ongoing maintenance of operating system and software patches, fixes, and upgrades. In a SaaS model, most of these burdens are dramatically reduced or eliminated. The Intelligent Transportation on Cloud offering is hosted and managed by IBM , and cities subscribe to the service and access it through the Internet. This means clients are not required to purchase and provision new hardware or worry about ongoing operating system and software maintenance.

With the Intelligent Transportation on Cloud offering, provisioning and on-boarding are streamlined. Clients can derive value from the service much more quickly than a traditional on-premise installation. Connection to the service is as easy as accessing the Internet through a browser, and it can be accessed from anywhere. With lower initial costs and lower long term overhead, clients' limited budget and resources are freed up to focus on additional value-added services.

Concurrent User

Concurrent User is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A Concurrent User is a person who is accessing the program at any particular point in time. Regardless of whether the person is simultaneously accessing the program multiple times, the person counts only as a single Concurrent User. The program may be installed on any number of computers or servers, but licensee must obtain entitlements for the maximum number of Concurrent Users simultaneously accessing the program. Licensee must obtain an entitlement for each simultaneous Concurrent User accessing the program in any manner directly or indirectly (for example, via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means.

Note: Some programs may be licensed where devices are considered users. In that case, the following applies. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tool is a no-additional-charge tool that proactively monitors and reports hardware events, such as system errors, performance issues, and inventory. Now integrated into the base operating system of AIX® 5.3, AIX 6.1, and AIX 7.1, Electronic Service Agent is designed to automatically and electronically report system failures and utilization issues to IBM , which can result in faster problem resolution and increased availability. System configuration and inventory information collected by the Electronic Service Agent tool also can be viewed on the secure Electronic Support web portal, and used to improve problem determination and resolution by you and the IBM support team. To access the tool main menu, simply type "smitty esa_main", and select "Configure Electronic Service Agent ." In addition, ESA now includes a powerful Web user interface, giving the administrator easy access to status, tool settings, problem information, and filters. The IBM Electronic Support portal is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. This portal enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems. The My Systems and Premium Search functions make it even easier for Electronic Service Agent tool-enabled customers to track system inventory and find pertinent fixes.

Benefits

Increased uptime: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to enhance the Warranty or Maintenance Agreement by providing faster hardware error reporting and uploading system information to IBM Support. This can translate to less wasted time monitoring the "symptoms," diagnosing the error, and manually calling IBM Support to open a problem record. Its 24 x 7 monitoring and reporting mean no more dependence on human intervention or off-hours customer personnel when errors are encountered in the middle of the night.

Security: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to be secure in monitoring, reporting, and storing the data at IBM . The Electronic Service Agent tool securely transmits either via the Internet (HTTPS or VPN) or modem, and can be configured to communicate securely through gateways to provide customers a single point of exit from their site. Communication is one way. Activating Electronic Service Agent does not enable IBM to call into a customer's system. System inventory information is stored in a secure database, which is protected behind IBM firewalls. It is viewable only by the customer and IBM . The customer's business applications or business data is never transmitted to IBM .

More accurate reporting: Since system information and error logs are automatically uploaded to the IBM Support center in conjunction with the service request, customers are not required to find and send system information, decreasing the risk of misreported or misdiagnosed errors. Once inside IBM , problem error data is run through a data knowledge management system and knowledge articles are appended to the problem record.

Customized support: Using the IBM ID entered during activation, customers can view system and support information in the "My Systems" and "Premium Search" sections of the Electronic Support Web site at

My Systems provides valuable reports of installed hardware and software using information collected from the systems by Electronic Service Agent . Reports are available for any system associated with the customer's IBM ID. Premium Search combines the function of search and the value of Electronic Service Agent information, providing advanced search of the technical support knowledgebase. Using Premium Search and the Electronic Service Agent information that has been collected from your system, customers are able to see search results that apply specifically to their systems.
