IBM® PowerHA® SystemMirror® for AIX®, the IBM Power Systems™ strategic solution for high availability, protects against most outage types, including software updates. It is the solution for mission-critical environments.

Cluster Aware AIX was introduced with version 7.1, making IBM PowerHA an integrated extension of IBM AIX. PowerHA SystemMirror V7.2.3 uses the same clustering foundation as PowerHA SystemMirror V7.1 and supports an easy, nondisruptive upgrade from version 7.1 to version 7.2.3.

PowerHA SystemMirror V7.2.3 offers:

  • Availability metrics and workload monitoring
  • Backup management (including cloud-based options)
  • Graphical management updates
    • Snapshot/restore support
    • Cluster reports
    • Non-root-based UI administration
    • Graphical cluster administration updates

Key prerequisites

PowerHA SystemMirror V7.2.3 supports:

  • IBM POWER7+®, or later, technology-based servers
  • AIX 7.1 and AIX 7.2 operating systems

PowerHA SystemMirror V7.2.3 includes enhancements to:

  • End-to-end high availability/disaster recovery solution, including automated offline backup
    • Simplified backup management
      • Policy-based incremental and full backups
      • Support for one-site and multisite deployments
  • Integrated automated flash copy and offline backup recovery
    • Backup management
      • Save your data to cloud or media.
      • Fully automated policy-based incremental or full copies that are backed up to cloud or media.
      • Support for one-site and multisite deployments.
  • Track failover times and calculate recovery time:
    • Availability Report
      • Failover time analytics
      • PowerHA and workload recovery times
      • Network and storage recovery times
      • Configuration bottlenecks
      • Historical averages
  • Monitor health and performance of workloads:
    • Health metrics
      • Enable and track the utilization metrics for workloads.
      • Out-of-the-box profiling for common workloads: Oracle, IBM Db2®, SAP NetWeaver.
      • Customize monitoring for your workloads.
      • Reports identify peak utilization.
  • For cross-site mirror deployments, PowerHA enables preferred read policies. Administrators can request preferred reads from flash memory-based storage on one of the sites.
  • Graphical management updates provide many more administrative capabilities within the GUI. Administrators can now:
    • Create and restore cluster configuration snapshots
    • Generate cluster reports and save them for reference
    • Register PowerHA clusters with the graphical interface without providing root user password information
    • Use additional administrative functions, like storage management
