IBM DB2 10.1 Linux, UNIX, and Windows (LUW) offers you a robust set of new functionality to help you reduce your costs and improve your operational efficiency through increased performance, enhanced security management features, extreme scalability, and faster applications development. New functions Optimized storage utilization Multi-Temperature Data Management allows for grouping of hot, warm, and cold data on varying storage systems. You can now use different storage technologies to help optimize performance while helping to minimize cost. Storage can be allocated depending on data temperature, such as placing hot data on the fastest and most expensive Solid® State Disks (SSDs), while other data can reside on less expensive storage systems. Multi-Temperature Data Management integration with DB2 Workload Manager is available with DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition to more easily prioritize queries, not only on "who" submitted the work or "what" type of work it is, but also on "where" the data resides. For faster performance, queries touching only hot data can be assigned higher prioritization than queries touching cold data. Multi-Temperature Data Management is included in the DB2 Enterprise Server Edition, DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition, and IBM Database Enterprise Developer Edition. Further storage savings with improved compression You get significant enhancements with DB2's industry-leading compression technologies that now include the new Adaptive Compression, which can further help reduce your storage needs. The enhancements deliver efficient compression of high amounts of new and changing data. The improved compression ratio further helps reduce storage needs and allows for more data in memory, therefore, helping to increase performance. The new approach used in Adaptive Compression also reduces the need for table reorganization. As a consequence, overall maintenance of compressed data is reduced, helping you achieve additional cost savings. Adaptive Compression is included in DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition and DB2 Database Enterprise Developer Edition. Easier business trend analysis and application development Time Travel Query, based on the SQL 2011 standard, is integrated into the database engine to provide significant performance and manageability advantages. Time Travel Query provides the infrastructure for time-aware analytics to reduce the operational complexity of collecting and analyzing time-based data. Time Travel Query accelerates dynamic analysis of business trends and changes over time, for both new and existing applications. Time Travel Query provides the flexibility to audit for change with system-controlled temporal data, and to analyze all kinds of temporal data including forward-looking data when using user-controlled temporal data. Time Travel Query is available in all editions of DB2. DB2 10.1 LUW can now be used as the Resource Definition Framework (RDF) data store with built-in query processor and SPARQL support. With this support, you will be able to build highly scalable and reliable semantic data applications on the DB2 platform. Application developers will have a flexible and expressive API to develop or rapidly prototype applications where the schema is changing or where there is a wide spectrum of disparate entity types to be stored with an evolving relationships between them. SPARQL query features, with open source Jena API, are supported. Utilities to create, load, and reorganize RDF data are provided. SPARQL and RDF datastore are available to all DB2 editions. Security enhancements Row and Column Access Control provides easy and flexible control over data access. With Row and Column Access Control, you can define the security policies that are optimal for your environment by creating permissions for rows and masks for columns based on rules defined for users, groups, and roles. This very fine granularity is designed to allow you to easily control access by roles such as departmental, supervisory, database administrators (DBAs), system administrators, and others, and allow for full separation of duty between security officers and DBAs. Row and Column Access Control is available in all the for-purchase DB2 10.1 editions (Express, Workgroup Server, Enterprise Server, and Advanced Enterprise Server, Database Enterprise Developer). Performance enhancements DB2 10.1 LUW adds many enhancements designed to further increase the performance of queries. Zigzag join is now available and is capable of delivering sub-second response time on complex multi-dimensional queries. Other join methods are also enhanced for memory usage efficiency, early predicate evaluation, support of expressions in predicates, as well as optimizer costing and query plan optimization. Additionally, you may now set the INTRA_PARALLELISM variable dynamically to optimize performance on multicore systems for specific applications or workloads. These performance enhancements are available in all editions of DB2. Continous Data Ingest utility The ingest utility allows the seamless roll-in of external data feeds with minimal impact on operations, including long-running queries. It enables real-time business analytics with massive volumes of streaming external data. It is designed to avoid trade-off between data concurrency and data availability. The Continuous Data Utility is available in DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition and DB2 Database Enterprise Developer Edition. DB2 pureScale The DB2 pureScale Feature brings clustering technology to DB2 on distributed IBM Power® System and System x® platforms. It helps you to meet your business needs around availability and scalability, and at the same time, it is easy to configure and administer. By combining the extensive features of DB2 with the availability and scalability of the DB2 pureScale Feature along with IBM system dependability and flexibility, the result is a comprehensive data management solution that helps you meet the most demanding business needs. The DB2 pureScale Feature is designed to keep your critical data available during both planned and unplanned outages. For planned outages, where you are performing maintenance on your cluster, you can do rolling maintenance on individual members without affecting the availability of the cluster. For unplanned outages, where a member of the cluster fails due to hardware or software reasons, the DB2 pureScale Feature is designed to allow the cluster, with its remaining members, to continue to function with minimal interruption to your application or business. The DB2 pureScale Feature allows you to add members to the cluster and remove them from the cluster on demand. You can scale up or scale down the cluster to meet your dynamic business needs. DB2 pureScale, developed with ease of use in mind, has a single installation process for all the software components. The DB2 pureScale Feature is included in DB2 Workgroup Server Edition and is restricted to up to 16 cores and 64 GB memory total across the cluster, not including the DB2 Cluster Facility and quorum host. Security, auditability, and controlTo protect data and resources associated with a database server, DB2 uses a combination of external security services and internal access control information. To access a database server, the user must pass some security checks before being given access to database data or resources. DB2 products interface with external security mechanisms available with operating systems on which DB2 products are supported as well as support for the Kerberos security mechanism. DB2 has an integrated audit facility that can be used to track data access by users. The subsequent analysis of an audit log can lead to improvements in the control of data access and the ultimate prevention of malicious or careless unauthorized access to the data. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.
This product is only available via Passport Advantage. It is not available as shrinkwrap. Charge metrics definitions Authorized User Single Install Authorized User Single Install is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An Authorized User is a unique person who is given access to the program. An Install is an installed copy of the program on a physical or virtual disk made available to be executed on a computer. The program may be installed on any number of computers or servers, but if the Authorized User has accessed or has access to more than one Install of the program, the Authorized User requires a separate entitlement for each such Install. Licensee must obtain separate, dedicated entitlements for each Authorized User given access to the program on each Install in any manner directly or indirectly (for example: via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means. An entitlement for an Authorized User is unique to that Authorized User and may not be shared, nor may it be reassigned other than for the permanent transfer of the Authorized User entitlement to another person. Processor Value Unit (PVU) PVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU Table by processor value, brand, type, and model number at and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores. Licensee can deploy the program using either full capacity licensing or virtualization capacity (sub-capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (refer to the webpage below). If using full capacity licensing, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using virtualization capacity licensing, licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at * An activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions. Software Maintenance also provides you with access to updates (modifications or fixes), releases, and versions of the program. You will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee. Money-back guaranteeFor clarification, note that if for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund. For clarification, note that for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program. For clarification, note that for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off CoD software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you. Statement of good security practices IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered destroyed or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective. IBM does not warrant that systems and products are immune from the malicious or illegal conduct of any party. On/Off Capacity on Demand (CoD)To be eligible for On/Off CoD pricing, customers must be enabled for temporary capacity on the corresponding hardware, and the required contract - Z125-6907, Amendment for iSeries® and pSeries® Temporary Capacity On Demand - Software - must be signed prior to use.
IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent. The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems. The Electronic Service Agent is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
