Overview

The IBM® System Storage® N3220, N3240, and N7950T (2867 Model E22 and 2857 Models A12, A14 A22, and A24) systems now include support for SnapLock Compliance and SnapLock Enterprise features. Data ONTAP 8.1, or later, is required. The EXN3000 storage expansion unit now includes the option of using a 6 Gbps I/O module when using 6Gb SAS/SATA disk drives. This feature enables the use of Flash Pool storage and mixed SSD/SATA shelves with the N series systems. This feature requires Data ONTAP 8.1.1, or later.

The EXN3500 and N3220 systems now support a 900 GB small form factor SAS disk drive, expanding the capacity options available to customers.

N3240 systems now support 100 GB solid state disks (SSD) providing improved performance and configuration flexibility of the systems.

Key prerequisites

The IBM System Storage N series requires FC, NFS, CIFS, or iSCSI protocol function.

Description

100 GB Solid state disks (#4050)

This feature provides one 100 GB solid-state drive. Physical storage capacity is up to 100 GB.

At least some of the storage in an N series system must be rotating disk drives; that is, the storage of an N series system may not be all SSD.

900 GB SFF SAS disk (#4102)

This feature provides one 900 GB SAS drive. Physical storage capacity is up to 900 GB.

IOM3 module (#2098)

This feature provides a 3 Gbps I/O module for the EXN3000. This module is mandatory for all expansions using SAS disks, and is optional for expansions using SATA disks.

IOM6 module (#2099)

This feature provides a 6 Gbps I/O module for the EXN3000. This module is optional for expansions using SATA disks. Using feature 2099 with SATA disks enables mixing SSDs (quantity of 6) with selected SATA disk capacities (quantity of 18) within a single expansion, improving the flexibility of the expansion. This mixed-shelf architecture is used in conjunction with Flash Pool technology included in Data ONTAP 8.1.1, or later. This feature requires Data ONTAP 8.1.1, or later.

SnapLock Compliance (#5909) and SnapLock Compliance - GW (#5934)

This feature enables the SnapLock Compliance licensed function subject to applying a feature activation code made available by IBM . This feature is also used for maintenance billing purposes.

The corequisite IBM 2870 feature must be purchased to establish authorization for use of the SnapLock Compliance licensed function before the feature activation code is provided by IBM .

Note: This feature requires Data ONTAP 8.1, or later.

SnapLock Enterprise (#5919) and SnapLock Enterprise - GW (#5944)

This feature enables the SnapLock Enterprise licensed function subject to applying a feature activation code made available by IBM . SnapLock Enterprise is designed to provide high performance and high security data permanence to disk-based primary and secondary N7950T storage subsystems. An integrated element of the proven IBM Data ONTAP operating system, SnapLock software is designed to support the accuracy, integrity, and security of data by helping prevent the alteration of business records and allow rapid online access for long periods of time. SnapLock Enterprise allows administrators to delete entire SnapLock Enterprise volumes. However, it is designed to prevent any SnapLock Enterprise user or administrator from deleting or modifying individual SnapLock Enterprise WORM records. This feature is also used for maintenance billing purposes.

The corequisite IBM 2870 feature must be purchased to establish authorization for use of the SnapLock Enterprise licensed function before the feature activation code is provided by IBM .

Note: This feature requires Data ONTAP 8.1, or later.

Complete Bundle

The SnapLock Compliance and SnapLock Enterprise function is also being added to the Complete Bundle features for the N7950T.

Licensed machine code (LMC)

The SnapLock features require LMC level 8.1, or later. Some N7950T features and functions may not be available or supported in all environments. Current information on supported environments, prerequisites, and minimum operating systems levels are available at

Current license terms for the machine code provided with this product prohibit transfer of the machine code without approval from NetApp.

Licensed functions

Data ONTAP (feature) and Data ONTAP Essentials feature (which includes CFO) is required on every N7950T platform.

Licensed functions require the selection of N7950T Model E22 features and the acquisition of the corresponding IBM 2870 Model 67J function authorization features.

The required 2870 license features are the same as for the equivalent 2867 Model E22.

Limitations

The N series systems are supported only in rack installations.
This product is functional with the System i® and OpenPower® platforms. However, on the System i , support is available only on Linux™ on Power® and AIX® partitions, not i5/OS™ .
Current license terms for the machine code provided with this product prohibit transfer of the machine code without approval from NetApp.

Planning information

You are responsible for downloading or obtaining from IBM , and installing designated Machine Code (microcode, basic input/output system code (called BIOS), utility programs, device drivers, and diagnostics delivered with an IBM machine) and other software updates in a timely manner from an IBM Internet website or from other electronic media, and following the instructions that IBM provides. You may request IBM to install Machine Code changes; however, you may be charged for that service.

Cable orders

No cables are required by the SnapLock features.

This product uses the security and auditability features of host hardware, host software, and/or application software to which it is attached.
