OVERVIEW

With IBM WebSphere(TM) Application Server V1.0, a servlet engine plug-in, you can create high-performance, cross-platform Web applications in a secure, standards-based, server-side environment.

Built on the licensed JavaServer Toolkit from JavaSoft, WebSphere Application Server V1.0 takes full advantage of the advanced features of the Java(**) Web Server.

WebSphere Application Server V1.0 includes the latest Java Servlet Development Kit APIs and supports an extensive array of Web servers.

For your convenience, WebSphere Application Server V1.0 also includes a base HTTP server.

WebSphere Application Server V1.0 provides a significant improvement in cross-platform Web application development compared to current CGI programming methods.

DESCRIPTION

As an extension of your Web server, WebSphere Application Server V1.0 expands your enterprise application portfolio. This plug-in servlet engine makes it easy for you to extend your present server's function with Java.

WebSphere Application Server V1.0 supports an extensive array of Web servers, including Apache, Netscape, Microsoft IIS and Lotus Domino Go Webserver to ensure complete cross-platform and cross-server compatibility in deploying and managing servlets across your enterprise. WebSphere Application Server V1.0 runs on Windows NT, Sun Solaris, and AIX.

As an added convenience, WebSphere Application Server V1.0 also includes an HTTP server.

WebSphere Application Server V1.0 offers:

  • Simple installation
  • Better performance than other methods of extending server function. WebSphere Application Server V1.0 runs as an in-process plug-in with Apache, Netscape, Microsoft Internet Information Server and Lotus Domino Go Webserver
  • Full support for the latest session-tracking APIs
  • A graphical interface for servlet management:
    • Set options for loading local and remote servlets
    • Set initialization parameters

For the PDF version, the Adobe Acrobat Reader is required for you to read and print the document. The Adobe Acrobat Reader is not included in the package. Program Services

Program Services offers a method of reporting code-related problems for Personal Systems licensed software products or AIX and IBM licensed software products which operate on an AIX or UNIX platform. The base set of Program Services is provided as part of the IBM basic software license agreement. Problems may be reported via e-mail, facsimile or regular mail and will be responded to using the same method as submitted. IBM will respond to customer inquiries within two business days of e-mail or facsimile receipt and seven days of mail receipt and will advise of the problem disposition. E-mail, facsimile and mail addresses are detailed in both the AIX and Personal Systems announcement letters (A94-1193 and A97-1173). If the problem reported is not a known code-related problem and the customer does not have a support contract, they will be advised that IBM will continue to work on the problem for a fee. However, if it is later determined that the problem is code-related, the fee will be waived.

Complimentary Introductory Support (CIS) for AIX:
IBM Canada provides qualifying customers, a complimentary 60 day period of remote technical support. This support provides technical assistance for non-complex installation and usage (how-to) questions and code related problems. Currently, Complimentary Introductory Support will be provided for all installations of eligible AIX Licensed Program Products when an IBM RS/6000 System and AIX are purchased in combination and the IBM RS/6000 System is the first in your enterprise. Complimentary Introductory Support will be provided for a period of 60 days commencing 10 days after shipment. At the completion of the Complimentary Introductory Support period you have the option of continuing with How-To and Usage support by purchasing an AIX/6000 Support Line offering or an AIX/6000 Availability Package.
Fee Service Offerings:
The IBM Personal Systems and AIX/6000 Support Families offer a comprehensive selection of services to address your individual support requirements including: Support Line, Consult Line and IBM House Call.
