Description

Top rule

The infusion of technology into all aspects of our lives has created a world that is generating billions of gigabytes of data every day. This explosion of unstructured data requires a new approach to support traditional and new workloads, one that is driven by a software-defined strategy.

The IBM Spectrum Storage™ family combines traditional, private, and public cloud storage with IBM FlashSystem® environments to deliver new ways to enhance data economics, including the use of commodity hardware. IBM Spectrum Archive EE is based on IBM Linear Tape File System™ (LTFS) and enables fast and easy data retention to reduce the total cost of ownership for active archive storage.

IBM Spectrum Archive EE combines the ease of use of LTFS with the scalability, manageability, and performance of IBM Spectrum Scale, an industry leader in high availability and high I/O capabilities. IBM Spectrum Archive EE extends the abilities of IBM Spectrum Scale with simplified tape administration and relieves the complexity of transferring data from tiered disk storage to tape. The ability to move beyond simply adding storage to optimize and streamline data management and reduce storage infrastructure costs are excellent benefits for businesses of any size. As needs for capacity, I/O, and data availability grow, IBM Spectrum Archive EE enables easy expansion of the tape tier of IBM Spectrum Scale. The ability to add media and provision it in the LTFS pool of General Parallel File System (GPFS™) enables expanded archive capacity with minimal downtime and without impacting the availability of data already in the pool.

IBM Spectrum Archive EE is designed to enable policy management of tape as a storage tier in an IBM Spectrum Scale environment, helping to encourage the use of tape as a critical tier in the storage environment.

IBM Spectrum Archive EE can be used as an operational storage tier accessible by disk-based applications. Using IBM Spectrum Archive EE to replace disks with tape in Tier 2 and Tier 3 storage can improve data access over other storage solutions as it increases efficiency and streamlines management of files on tape.

IBM Spectrum Archive EE can play a major role in reducing the cost of storage for data that does not need the access performance of primary disk. By replacing Tier 2 and Tier 3 disk storage with tape, organizations can achieve a new operational efficiency and cost effectiveness compared to the cost of equivalent disk-based environments. IBM Spectrum Archive EE simplifies the use of tape by making it transparent to the user and manageable by the administrator under a single infrastructure.

IBM Spectrum Archive EE supports IBM LTO Ultrium 8, 7, 6, and 5 tape drives, as well as IBM TS1140, TS1150, and TS1155 tape drives installed in TS3310, TS3500, TS4300, and TS4500 tape libraries.

For the installation of the first node, purchase one per-install license. For the installation of additional nodes to meet the scale-out requirements, purchase one per-secondary-node license for each additional node in the same IBM Spectrum Archive EE cluster.

IBM Spectrum Archive Enterprise Edition V1.2.6 delivers the following enhancements:

Interoperability updates

  • POWER® Little Endian
  • IBM Spectrum Scale 5.0.0
  • RHEL 7.4

New functions

  • Library replacement procedure phase two
  • Tape intermix in pool for technology upgrade

Expanded storage capacity with LTO 8 Type M media (code modification 1.2.5.1)

Statement of good security practices

Top rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through intrusion prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a regulatory compliant, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.

Important: IBM does not warrant that any systems, products, or services are immune from, or will make your enterprise immune from, the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
