New Functions for Component Broker V3.6

Component Broker V3.6 supports EJB specification V1.1. You can deploy:

    • EJB JARs developed to either V1.0 or 1.1 of the EJB specification

    • J2EE 1.2 EARs to Component Broker V3.6
Built on the mature code base of the Component Broker MOFW, support is added for the new features in the EJB 1.1 specification. If you already have an investment in Component Broker MOFW-based applications, EJB V1.1 offers a migration path into the rapidly growing J2EE marketplace. You can program to the EJB 1.1 component model while still leveraging the enterprise-class function and run time of Component Broker.

    New functions include:

    • Improved support for Solaris, including:

    Euro Currency

    These programs are EuroReady.

For more information on the implications of the euro, visit the IBM euro Web site at:

    http://www.ibm.com/euro

    EuroReady Products

IBM considers an IBM product to be EuroReady if the product, when used in accordance with its associated documentation, is capable of correctly processing monetary data in the euro denomination and of respecting the euro currency formatting conventions (including the euro sign). This assumes that all other products (for example, hardware, software, and firmware) that are used with this product are also EuroReady. IBM hardware products that are EuroReady may or may not have an engraved euro sign key on their keyboards.

Currently, EuroReady status applies primarily to IBM products specific to the EMU countries. Products that are not specific to these countries are deemed to be "not ready" for euro unless otherwise stated in the product's country-specific specifications.

    IBM Hardware Ready

IBM supplies certain IBM products which include third-party software (pre-loaded or not) and / or third-party attached hardware. In these instances, IBM is not in a position to assert that these third-party products are, in themselves, EuroReady.

Therefore, such IBM products will be designated as Hardware ready.

    EuroReady Solutions

IBM considers a solution to be EuroReady when the solution providers have:

    • Analysed the euro requirements, including the need to comply with relevant EC rules
    • Built in appropriate function
and can clearly demonstrate this by:
    • Detailing euro related requirements
    • Describing how these will be implemented in the solution
    • Declaring when the implementation will be generally available
The euro capabilities of a EuroReady solution will be clearly identified as features of the solution specification, as described in the contracts document.

    Compatibility

The CICS component of the WebSphere AS V3.6 EE for Windows NT products differ from other products (Transaction Server for OS/2, Version 4, CICS for OS/2, Version 2, and CICS for Windows NT, Version 2) in several ways.

    • Resource definitions
    • User exits
    • Operational procedures
    • VSAM file managers
    • Supported CICS API

The following functions are not supported:

    • File control using CICS for Windows NT, Version 2 or CICS for OS/2, Version 2 internal file system
    • Connectivity using NetBIOS or NetBIOS emulation over IPX

    Limitations

    • The CICS Systems Manager for AIX is not delivered with WebSphere AS V3.6 EE for AIX. Customers who require workload management as part of a CICS implementation on a RS/6000 SP machine should contact IBM Transaction Systems Services regarding services offerings in this area. This should be considered when migrating from the Transaction Server for AIX, Version 4.1.

    • No license management is offered in the WebSphere AS V3.6 EE for Windows NT products.

    • CICS Foundation Classes are available with WebSphere AS V3.6 EE for AIX and the WebSphere AS V3.6 EE for Windows NT products only, and are offered as a fully supported technology release.

    • Full synclevel 2 requires the Encina PPC Gateway. On Windows NT, the Encina PPC Gateway runs with IBM Communications Server but does not run with Microsoft SNA Server.

    • The CICS screen design aid (cicssda) is no longer supported with TXSeries CICS. Customers who need to design BMS maps should do so on their mainframe systems.

    • When upgrading from CICS for Windows NT or CICS for OS/2, refer to the information in the Compatibility section.

    Performance Considerations

    Planning Information

    Pricing Model:

Refer to the Customer Responsibilities section for details of use authority.

For WebSphere AS V3.6 EE Development Runtime for AIX, WebSphere AS V3.6 EE Development Runtime for Solaris, and WebSphere AS V3.6 EE Development Runtime for Windows NT, you must acquire one license for each installation. If the total number of workstation installations exceeds the number of licenses, you must notify IBM or its reseller as stated in the IPLA.

Charges for installations of WebSphere AS V3.6 EE for AIX, WebSphere AS V3.6 EE for Solaris, and WebSphere AS V3.6 EE for Windows NT are based on the number of processors available. The total number of processors used cannot exceed the quantity in the applicable Proofs of Entitlement (PoE). If the total number exceeds the quantity in the PoE, you must notify IBM or its reseller as stated in the IPLA.

    Customer Responsibilities

Customers must ensure that the following usage restrictions are applied:

    • DB2 Universal Database, as delivered with WebSphere AS V3.6 EE, must be installed on the same machine as the WebSphere Application Server or SecureWay Directory component of WebSphere AS V3.6 EE, and used in conjunction with WebSphere AS V3.6 EE. It must be used only to store and manage data used or generated by WebSphere AS V3.6 EE or WebSphere AS V3.6 EE-based applications, and not for any other data management purposes. For example, it can not be used for inbound connections from non-WebSphere AS V3.6 EE applications for data queries or report generation. The requirement for the storage or manipulation of DB2 controlled data by non-WebSphere AS V3.6 EE applications must be satisfied with a production license for DB2 or another RDBMS.

    • MQSeries, as delivered with WebSphere AS V3.6 EE, must be installed on the same machine or SP node as the WebSphere AS V3.6 EE, and must only be used to provide asynchronous communications for WebSphere AS V3.6 EE applications.

MQSeries is authorized for use between WebSphere AS V3.6 EE applications, including the supplied applications, and stand-alone MQSeries applications on systems where a full MQSeries license has been acquired.

    • Component Broker includes certain connectivity functions provided by IBM SecureWay Host On-Demand Connector. Despite any terms in this agreement to the contrary, The Host On-Demand Connector component may only be used within the Component Broker component of the Program to provide TN3270 connectivity between Component Broker and CICS or IMS. Any use of the Host On-Demand Connector to provide TN3270 connectivity between Component Broker and applications other than CICS or IMS, or any direct use of the Host On-Demand Connector interfaces by an application program other than through Component Broker pursuant to the above terms requires a separately obtained license to Host On-Demand.

    • The IBM DCE Cell Directory and DCE Security servers are delivered with WebSphere AS V3.6 EE, and must be used with installed WebSphere AS V3.6 EE servers only. Use is restricted to the WebSphere AS V3.6 EE environment. A customer is entitled to install one each of the DCE Cell Directory and Security servers with each WebSphere AS V3.6 EE server license acquired. The DCE Runtime Services may be copied, as necessary, to support users whose use of DCE Runtime Services, requires a WebSphere AS V3.6 EE server function to execute.

Additional DCE Cell Directory and Security server and DCE Runtime Services licenses must be acquired separately for use with applications which run on middleware other than WebSphere AS V3.6 EE servers.

The DCE CD-ROM in WebSphere AS V3.6 EE for Solaris includes DFS, for which no use authority is given.

    • The VisualAge C++ for AIX and for Windows NT, including the IBM Open Class Library, can be used only for the development of Component Broker-based applications using these programs.

    Installability

Users of TXSeries 4.2 can migrate to WebSphere AS V3.6 EE, Version 3.6 without the need to uninstall the existing level. Detailed instructions are provided in the corresponding planning manuals.

Users of older releases of CICS or Encina may be required to either reinstall a new TXSeries system or migrate to an intermediate level. When TXSeries is installed, the presence of any existing CICS or Encina will be flagged with a warning message. The installation can be aborted or continued, as appropriate; you can overwrite the existing level without saving any of its information.

The installation procedures for this release of WebSphere AS V3.6 EE vary across the various transaction servers.

    • AIX - installp (SMIT)
    • Solaris - pkg

    Security, Auditability and Control

WebSphere AS V3.6 EE uses the security and auditability features of the workstation operating system together with full support of DCE authentication RPC, allowing secure access in a LAN environment.

Security and auditability features of the CICS monitor include:

    • Standard CICS security:

      • Transaction security restricting access to transactions to authorized users.

      • Resource security restricting access to CICS resources to authorized users.

    • External security manager: An interface is provided to use the services of an external security manager.
DCE provides automated authentication and security for CICS.

Encina monitor provides automated authorization checking. By building upon DCE security, the Encina monitor provides a very strong security implementation that gives authentication, authorization, and encryption. The Encina monitor simplifies the use of DCE security by providing its own ACL manager, and automatically checking security credentials of all clients accessing Encina monitor services.

Component Broker (CB) provides automated authorization checking. By building upon DCE security, CB provides a very strong security implementation that gives authentication, authorization, and encryption. CB provides authentication and authorization service to clients; automatically checking security credentials of all clients accessing CB services.
