This release extends national language support, introduces an optional product access management feature, and delivers enhancements to selected IBM® i2® Intelligence Analysis portfolio products.

National language support

This release adds national language support for the following products:

  • IBM i2 Analyst's Notebook
  • IBM i2 iBase
  • IBM i2 Analyst's Notebook Premium
  • IBM i2 Intelligence Analysis Platform

Product access management

This release also delivers optional customer-controlled product access management features that can help IBM i2 Intelligence Analysis portfolio customers ensure that their organization is in compliance with the terms of their license agreement with IBM through controlling user access to:

  • IBM i2 Analyst's Notebook
  • IBM i2 Analyst's Workstation
  • IBM i2 iBase
  • IBM i2 Analyst's Notebook Premium

This capability can be used to help customer organizations ensure that only the correct number of users can access these IBM i2 Intelligence Analysis products within their networks and to help ensure that the right to use them is allocated to the users who actively need them.

Product access management is an optional feature that is provided with the applicable IBM i2 Intelligence Analysis portfolio products. It is the organization's choice to activate the feature. Once activated, product access management uses a permit-based, client-server model that allows customers to implement access control.

Permits that represent an organization's entitlement to the IBM i2 Intelligence Analysis products are stored on a server. Applications with the product access management feature switched on request a permit during start-up, and if a permit is available, the product will load. The permit is returned to the server when the application closes.

The permit type supplied is "concurrent network" with an optional borrowing capability. The borrowing capability allows users to borrow a permit from the available concurrent pool so they can use an IBM i2 Intelligence Analysis product for a period of time while disconnected from the network.

Product access management elements consist of:

  • Permit management software: The actual access management application, which is typically installed on one or more servers at a central location where all the permits reside pending allocation for use.
  • Product access console: A utility that enables the administrator or user to view and manage server-hosted permits, including borrowing. The administrator can turn off the product access console to stop the user from undertaking configuration actions.
  • Permits (concurrent network with the optional borrowing feature): Permits that can be used concurrently up to a defined limit.
  • Permit request: A form to request permits.

Product enhancements

This release adds geospatial support for Esri ArcGIS 10.1 and MapInfo Professional 11.5 for IBM i2 iBase, when used in conjunction with IBM i2 iBase Graphic Information System Interfaces, and IBM i2 Analyst's Workstation. Supporting these updates provides customers with the latest compatible environments.

Additionally, IBM i2 iBase now supports Microsoft™ SQL Server 2012. Refer to the Software requirements section for details.

Hardware requirements

The hardware requirements are not changed. For details, refer to Software Announcement 212-441, dated November 20, 2012.

Software requirements

For IBM i2 iBase, when used in conjunction with IBM i2 iBase GIS Interfaces and IBM i2 Analyst's Workstation, GIS support for Esri ArcGIS 10.1 and MapInfo Professional 11.5 is added.

IBM i2 iBase is now supported on Microsoft SQL Server 2012. Note that owing to the lack of backward compatibility, this capability does not apply when using IBM i2 iBase with Data Miner, a component of IBM i2 Analyst's Workstation. Consult the Release Notes® for details on this compatibility limitation before installing Microsoft SQL Server 2012.

All other software requirements are not changed. For details, refer to Software Announcement 212-441, dated November 20, 2012.
