DESCRIPTION
VIRTUAL STORAGE CONSTRAINT RELIEF
The amount of virtual storage available for the user's private
area has been increased by moving portions of system services.
Catalog management modules and data have been moved into a separate
address space.  Checkpoint/restart and common volume table of
contents (VTOC) access facility (CVAF) have been moved to the
extended link pack area.  These changes increase the amount of
virtual storage available for the user's private area.
MVS/XA DFP Version 2 Release 1 changes have resulted in a
reduction of virtual storage usage of approximately 490Kb. Additional
reductions may be realized by users of integrated catalog facility
catalogs because of the reduced amount of common storage area needed
for an integrated catalog facility catalog.  The decrease is
approximately 20Kb times the number of concurrently open integrated
catalog facility catalogs.
In support of some minor RAS improvements, there is an
increase in the storage below the 16Mb virtual storage use of VSAM.
The increase is calculated as a 44- to 56-byte increase per VSAM
string. It occurs in either CSA or the VSAM user's private area.
DADSM ENHANCEMENTS
DADSM enhancements provide the capability for requesting
absolute allocation of up to 16 extents on a given volume with an
indexed VTOC.  A path through DADSM partial release for callers other
than CLOSE and checkpoint/restart is also provided.  The release
unused space and copy/restore unmovable data-set support of Data
Facility Data Set Services (DFDSS) Version 2 use these capabilities.

For additional information, refer to MVS/Extended Architecture
Conversion Notebook (GC28-1143).
Each version of Data Facility Product has its own set of
supported devices.
Both indexed and non-indexed VTOCs are supported by MVS/XA DFP
Version 2 Release 1. The support is functionally equivalent to the
support introduced to OS/VS2 MVS users with DFDS and is available in
MVS/370 DFP and MVS/XA DFP Version 1.  Programs that currently access
the VTOC through documented DADSM interfaces will continue to operate
without change on volumes with a VTOC index.  Programs that access
the VTOC via EXCP or SAM will continue to operate without change on
volumes with a VTOC index with one exception: programs that depend on
the information in the Format 5 DSCB(s) must be modified to use the
common VTOC access facility (CVAF) function to obtain the same
information from the VTOC index.
Object and load modules acceptable to the OS/VS2 MVS Release
3.8, MVS/370 DFP, or MVS/XA DFP Version 1 linkage editor are also
acceptable to the linkage editor available in MVS/XA DFP Version 2
Release 1.  Conversely, object and load modules created by MVS/XA DFP
Version 2 Release 1 are acceptable to the other programs.  The
linkage editor available with MVS/XA DFP Version 2 Release 1, MVS/370
DFP, and MVS/XA DFP Version 1 will require 32Kb more virtual storage
than was used by the OS/VS2 MVS Release 3.8 linkage editor.
Object modules acceptable as input to the OS/VS2 MVS, MVS/370
DFP, or MVS/XA DFP Version 1 loader are also acceptable to the loader
available in MVS/XA DFP Version 2 Release 1.
User application programs that successfully take checkpoints
on MVS/370 may do so on MVS/XA.
Four OS/VS MVS Release 3.8 programs will not be available in
the MVS/XA environment with the installation of MVS/XA DFP Version 2
Release 1. The programs and suggested alternatives for specified
functions are listed below:
o   IBCDASDI - Disk initialization functions are currently available
    in Device Support Facilities (ICKDSF).
o   IBCDMPRS - The stand-alone disk-restore functions are currently

available in Data Facility Data Set Services (DFDSS) Version 1
    (5740-UT3) and DFDSS Version 2 (5665-327). The stand-alone
disk-restore functions of DFDSS will not operate on IBM
processors operating in extended architecture mode. The
stand-alone disk-dump functions are no longer available or
    supported in MVS/XA.
o   IEHDASDR - Disk initialization functions are currently available
in Device Support Facilities (ICKDSF). Dump/restore functions are
currently available in DFDSS, but DFDSS does not support the dump
format produced by IEHDASDR. Users may order and install DFDSS to
create back-up tapes in an acceptable format. Dumps taken by
DFDSS in an MVS/370 environment may be restored by DFDSS in an
    MVS/XA environment.
o   Analysis Program-1 (AP-1) - The functions to aid in the analysis
of DASD error situations are available in Device Support
    Facilities (ICKDSF).
Note: Direct Access Storage Dump Restore (5740-UT1)
creates tape in two formats, neither of which is accepted by
either version of DFDSS.  Any tape created by Direct Access
Storage Dump Restore or IEHDASDR that must be used to restore
data may be restored by the originating IBM programs operating in
    System/370 mode.
MIGRATION: Enhanced data security via the always-call facilities with
RACF Version 1 Release 5 and the system authorization facility (SAF)
of MVS/SP Version 2 is supported by the following components of
MVS/XA DFP Version 2 Release 1
o   DADSM
o   OPEN/CLOSE/EOV
o   Checkpoint/restart
o   IEHMOVE
o   Integrated catalog facility
These components provide use of RACF generic profiles.
VSAM catalogs and CVOLs have been functionally stabilized,
and, accordingly, always-call support has not been implemented for
them. Support of RACF always-call is provided through the use of
integrated catalog facility catalogs.
Failure to define a RACF profile for the VSAM cluster name for
data sets that previously had profile(s) only at the component level
could constitute a security exposure.
SECURITY, AUDITABILITY, AND CONTROL
RACF (5740-XXH) Version 1 Release 5, and later releases and
modification levels unless announced otherwise by IBM, will execute
in an MVS/XA environment with MVS/XA DFP Version 2 Release 1,
providing security and protection of data resources for those
installations requiring it.
For non-VSAM data sets to be protected against unauthorized
access or unauthorized alteration, this protection is via the
password parameter on the DD statement.
For VSAM data sets, password facilities may be used to control
access to the data set or limit access to the integrated catalog
facility catalog or VSAM catalog.
For transportation or storage of data, security is implemented
by encrypting the data, using the facilities of the access method
services REPRO encryption/decryption function, and the Cryptographic
Unit Support licensed program, the Programmed Cryptographic Facility
licensed program, or a functional equivalent.
User management is responsible for the selection, adequacy and
implementation of these features, and the appropriate application and
administrative control.
PLANNING INFORMATION
CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITY: Current users need to install MVS/XA DFP
Version 2 Release 1.  New users should install either the
co-requisite MVS/System Product - JES2 Version 2 Release 1.2
(5740-XC6) or MVS/System Product - JES3 Version 2 Release 1.2
(5665-291) for execution and their program distribution libraries for
the assemblies required for system generation (SYSGEN).
Users of either OS/VS2 MVS IEHDASDR or the Direct Access
Storage Dump Restore need to install Data Facility Data Set Services
(DFDSS) Version 2 (5665-327), or a functional equivalent, to provide
direct access storage dump and restore functions. If the customer
plans to install DFDSS, it is recommended that this be done before
MVS/XA DFP Version 2 Release 1 is installed in order to back up disk
files to tape, using the format acceptable to DFDSS for restoration.
Users of DFDSS Version 1 (5740-UT3) must be at the Release 1.2
level. If IBM 3380 Extended Capability Models are used, Version 1
must include PTF UP52007.  It is recommended that DFDSS Version 2
(5665-327) be installed.  (See 'Software Requirements.')
INSTALLABILITY: System generation requirements for the installation
of MVS/XA DFP Version 2 Release 1 vary according to the various base
systems used.  The program directory contains instructions for
installation.
If 3380s have been previously IOGENed, no additional
generation is required to install Models AD4/BD4 and AE4/BE4.
The IBM 3262 Line Printer Model 5 must be SYSGENed as a 4248
device.  IBM 4248 unique functions are not available for the IBM 3262
Model 5.
SYSTEM INTEGRITY: IBM will accept APARs where the installation of
this licensed program causes an exposure to the system integrity of
MVS/XA.  This licensed program is intended to run authorized.  Refer
to IBM Programming Announcement, dated October 21, 1981.
