IBM® Machine Learning for z/OS® helps you extract value from your mission-critical IBM z Systems™ data while keeping the data in place. It provides a framework for generating models that continually learn and improve with new data. As data is consistently ingested, cleansed or prepared, and tested in this framework, IBM Machine Learning for z/OS helps you generate and optimize the models used to make business decisions.

Overview
Bottom rule

IBM Machine Learning for z/OS helps extract value from your mission-critical IBM z Systems data while keeping the data where it resides. It provides the framework for you to augment intelligence gleaned from internal data with data from external sources. This is done with the Apache Spark cluster running on IBM z/OS, continuously ingesting data in real time and evolving models as data changes or new information is added. The application cluster sits on Linux™, providing users with a natural-language interface for selecting data sources, transforming data, building and training models from the cleansed data, and deploying models. When the model is created and stored, developers can view it from the repository and decide to deploy. After it is deployed, the model makes predictions, as the business monitors outcomes and collects data. The data is pushed back into the machine learning workflow in a continuous feedback loop to help optimize the model. Benefits of the continuous loop in the machine learning cycle through Apache Spark may include:

  • End-to-end management of the entire machine learning workflow from data ingestion to model creation, model training, and deployment.
  • Simpler data access and model deployment. Machine Learning for z/OS minimizes complexity associated with data access to help improve time to model deployment.
  • A single platform to enable collaboration across analytics user personas.
  • Ability to develop a wide range of algorithms that can be trained and improved with machine learning services. With no requirements for proprietary language, a wide variety of models can be pushed through the feedback loop for continuous improvement.

Description
Bottom rule

Data has increasingly become the single most important asset that drives enterprises today. The large volume and variety of data available may reveal exciting opportunities for businesses to explore. Those with the expertise and tools to glean insight and extract value from their cleansed data can reap tremendous rewards. Value comes from data-driven insights derived through analytic algorithms that can combine and extract meaning from a wide range of data. This data spans across transactional systems including data on IBM z Systems, to customer data collected from mobile and social applications and data streaming in from the Internet of Things, weather data, and even sensors to identify trends, model possible scenarios, and predict future results. These insights can provide a competitive edge by identifying emerging opportunities, improving the customer experience, enhancing operational efficiencies, reducing risks, and more.

IBM Machine Learning for z/OS further augments the very fast and scalable analytics processing framework in Apache Spark with a cycle of constant learning that helps generate and optimize the models used to make business decisions. It does this through a real-time feedback loop that keeps the model in training with the most current data on z Systems™. Analytic applications deployed on z/OS can leverage Machine Learning for z/OS and APIs to analyze data in place on z Systems. This may result in significant performance improvements and avoids costly processing and security considerations associated with data movement. Included in this solution is the capability to explore all relevant algorithms to provide recommendations for models that best fit your business needs.

Statement of good security practices
Bottom rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a lawful, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.

Important: IBM does not warrant that any systems, products, or services are immune from, or will make your enterprise immune from, the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
