IBM® Rational® Power® Appliance is a pre-configured application development solution for Power Systems which includes a Power Express® server preinstalled with a comprehensive set of Rational development software along with the AIX® operating system. This appliance solution enables you to develop optimized applications on IBM Power Systems. It is designed to improve programmers' productivity, agility, and the overall efficiency of your development process. It is easy to order and quick to deploy. IBM Rational Power Appliance consists of two solutions, namely C/C++ and COBOL. These solutions are optimized for use by 5, 20, and 40 developers. You have the flexibility to choose the sized that best fits your development organization. The Power 710 and 730 Express servers are 2U servers and the Power 750 Express server is a 4U server. They are offered in a rack-optimized form factor containing the enhanced performance of the recent POWER7 processor. Software components of IBM Rational Power Appliance include the AIX operating system, IBM Rational Team Concert, a Collaborative Application Lifecycle Management (C/ALM) system; IBM Rational Developer for Power Systems Software, an integrated development environment; and a choice of XL C/C++ for AIX or COBOL for AIX, optimizing compilers specifically designed to support the POWER architecture. Debug enhancementsThe integrated C/C++ debugger for AIX has been enhanced to optionally allow all threads to be suspended when a breakpoint is hit. Previously, only the thread that hit the breakpoint was suspended. Debug connections between the client and server for AIX can now be transported over an ssh tunnel. This resolves issues in previous releases where debug connections could not be established in certain network configurations, such as those involving network address translation.
