Profiles: The Profiles service helps you quickly find the people you need by searching across your organization using keywords that help identify expertise, current projects, and responsibilities. Keeping people in your professional network advised of what you are doing, and staying informed of what they are doing helps to build and foster professional networks. Accomplishing this is now simpler and more immediate with the addition of two new features in Lotus Connections: micro-blogging and message board. Features of the new micro-blogging capability include the following:
The combination of the board and the new micro-blogging capabilities provides a simple and easy way for people to maintain an active connection with the other people in their network. Lotus Connections 2.5 also enhances the tag cloud which is displayed in the profiles service. Tags associated with individuals from across the organization are now consolidated and displayed as a tag cloud. This can be used to quickly locate people with a needed expertise by clicking on the relevant tag. Activities: The Activities service allows individuals to create online work areas where they and their teammates can gather together the e-mails, IM chats, documents, messages, and other information that they need to accomplish a business objective. With Lotus Connections 2.5, activities can be started directly from a community. Activities created in this way are displayed on both the community's overview page, and in the Activities service view as well. Community members automatically become members of an activity that is started from the community. This provides community members with online work areas in which they can collaborate on projects. Blogs: The Blogs service allows you to present your ideas, get feedback from others, and learn from the expertise and experience of others who blog. The new blogs features in Lotus Connections 2.5 include the following:
Bookmarks: The Bookmarks social bookmarking service permits one to save, organize, and share bookmarks; and also discover bookmarks that have been qualified by others. Moving bookmarks into and out of the Bookmarks service is now simpler. Individuals can export their browser bookmarks or subsets of their browser bookmarks into the Bookmarks service. This can prove useful when initially populating a bookmarks list in the Bookmarks service, or updating it with a new topic of interest. Bookmarks can also be exported from the Bookmarks service and imported into a browser or shared with someone who does not use the Bookmarks service. New integrated mobile support Many professionals travel frequently or work remotely. Lotus Connections 2.5 now supports mobile browser access to the Lotus Connections Profiles, Activities, and Blog services from iPhone or Nokia S60 devices. Charge metrics definitions Processor Value Unit (PVU) PVU is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. PVU entitlements are based on processor families (vendors and brands). A Proof of Entitlement (PoE) must be obtained for the appropriate number of PVUs based on the level or tier of all processor cores activated and available for use by the program on the server. Some programs allow licensing to less than the full capacity of the server's activated processor cores, sometimes referred to as sub-capacity licensing. For programs which offer sub-capacity licensing, if a server is partitioned utilizing eligible partitioning technologies, then a PoE must be obtained for the appropriate number of PVUs based on all activated processor cores available for use in each partition where the program runs or is managed by the program. Refer to the International Passport Advantage Agreement Attachment for Sub-Capacity Terms or the program's License Information to determine applicable sub-capacity terms. The PVU entitlements are specific to the program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with PVU entitlements of another program. Sub-capacity for selected middleware products Sub-capacity licensing on a Processor Value Unit (PVU) basis is available for selected middleware products. With sub-capacity licensing, customers can license for less than the total number of processor cores on the server (full capacity), provided they are using an eligible virtualization technology, and they have agreed to the terms of the offering, per the Web site below. To offer sub-capacity licensing, IBM software products implement IBM License Metric Tool within their offerings so that customers can monitor and create reports on their use of the programs on a continuous basis. More information can be found on the Passport Advantage Web site Choose "Find out more about Passport Advantage and Passport Advantage Express," select "Licensing," and then select "Sub-capacity Licenses" to learn more about sub-capacity licensing options at IBM. There you will find links to the most current list of products and technology platforms eligible for sub-capacity licensing. IBM also has additional technical information for the key partitioning and virtualization technologies that are currently supported. IBM License Metric Tool IBM License Metric Tool, if required as part of a sub-capacity transaction, should be ordered by customers via their IBM representatives or Business Partners through Passport Advantage and Passport Advantage Express. The IBM representative or Business Partner will need to place an order for part number D561HLL. Multiple copies of IBM License Metric Tool are not required as the IBM License Metric Tool is licensed on a "per establishment" basis. This means a customer is permitted to deploy an unlimited number of copies of the IBM License Metric Tool, only on machines owned or leased by the customer, that are located at a single physical site, including the surrounding campus and satellite offices, irrespective of the server environment being monitored. Your customer can use more copies if needed to support the operational environment, but only one copy is required to monitor all the sub-capacity licensed products. Use of the IBM License Metric Tool is highly recommended for all PVU environments, and is mandatory for use with PVU sub-capacity licensing in most situations. IBM is allowing certain exceptions. The use of IBM License Metric Tool will not be required with eligible virtualization technologies currently unsupported by the tool until 90 days after IBM License Metric Tool provides support for those technologies. IBM License Metric Tool will not be required if you have less than 1,000 employees and contractors worldwide, unless you are a Service Provider, or you have contracted with a Service Provider to manage your sub-capacity server environment. (Service Providers are any entity that provides IT Services for end-user customers, either directly or through a reseller.) In addition, IBM License Metric Tool will not be required if the total physical capacity of your servers with sub-capacity licensing is less than 1,000 PVUs or your servers, with eligible sub-capacity products, are licensed to the full capacity of the servers. When IBM License Metric Tool is not required, customers must maintain documentation for at least two years, which is reconciled at least quarterly, to demonstrate ongoing compliance with the terms of the sub-capacity offering. For more information on the IBM License Metric Tool, refer to Software Announcement 208-197, dated July 01, 2008. As an alternative, IBM Tivoli License Compliance Manager V2.3 is available to customers for monitoring the use of selected IBM products beyond PVU-based licensing, and selected third-party products.
