Description

New features and function of IBM Homogeneous Replication Feature for DB2 Enterprise Server Edition 9.7

Increased high availability capabilities

  • The initialization protocol for bidirectional and peer-to-peer subscriptions has been enhanced to allow application activity on replicated tables during the initialization of subscriptions.
  • Disaster recovery procedures can be enhanced using the additional runtime data available in replication control tables (IBMQREP_CAPMON and IBMQREP_APPLYMON).

Support for DB2 9.7 enhancements

  • DB2 LUW partitioned tables can now be sources for replication. The 9.7 Q Capture can capture from partitioned tables in DB2 LUW 9.1, or later databases. Add, attach, and detach partition can be replicated between DB2 LUW 9.7 databases.
  • DB2 LUW 9.7 compressed tables can now be sources for replication.
  • An option is available to allow replication of the load operation.
  • The 9.7 Replication Center and asnclp administration tools can create the latest Q Replication control tables in DB2 LUW 9.1 and 9.5 databases, improving support of running the latest Q Replication function without having to migrate your DB2 database.
  • Q Apply allows expressions on XML columns.
  • New and enhanced DB2 data types can be replicated.

Usability enhancements

  • The Replication Center and asnclp can create subscriptions for a large number of tables significantly faster than in previous releases.
  • The configuration of WebSphere MQ is easier with the integration of Q Replication's MQ Script Generators into the Replication Center.

Additional improvements

  • Increased control of diff by allowing query result comparisons rather than full source and targets in a subscription.
  • Support for 64-bit WebSphere MQ on x64 Windows.

Specified operating environment

Hardware requirements

IBM Homogeneous Replication Feature for DB2 Enterprise Server Edition

The exact configuration needed to support your environment with satisfactory processing time will vary depending on multiple factors. Processing times vary depending on server speed, memory, and network and server workload. Minimum recommended configurations listed below need to be evaluated and adjusted according to your unique requirements. Disk space recommendations below are for the product installation and working space only. The actual hard disk space required varies depending upon your installation.

The minimum hardware requirement for WebSphere Replication Server or WebSphere Data Event Publisher is defined by the supported operating systems, with the following additional minimum hardware requirements:

  • When running on x86 systems with 32-bit Windows or Linux, Intel® Pentium® 4, an Intel Xeon®, AMD Athlon, AMD Opteron CPU is required.
  • When running on x86-64 systems with 64-bit Windows or Linux, systems with Intel EM64T or AMD64 processors are required.
  • When running on AIX® and Linux for System p® and System i®, Systems with POWER4™ are required.
  • When running on Solaris, UltraSPARC or x64 CPUs are required.
  • When running on Linux for System z®, an IBM System z server or IBM System z9® server is required.

Memory requirements

The minimum required memory is generally 256 MB. To determine the memory requirements for the installation, consider the following factors:

  • Other software running on the same server
  • Memory requirements of database clients
  • Performance requirements
  • The size and complexity of your configuration
  • The extent of database activity and the number of clients that access your system
  • Memory required to process the temporary tables and sorts performed by the federated server to avoid using the disk input and output

Disk space requirement

The total amount of required megabytes of disk space is the sum of the components listed in the table.

Operating system Installer

AIX 5L 50-80
Linux 50-80
Solaris 50-80
Windows 50-80

Additional disk space considerations

  • Consider the amount of necessary disk space on the federated server to manage any temporary tables and sorts that exceed the available memory.
  • The disk space requirements vary depending on your configuration and the type of disk drive that you have. Significantly more disk space might be required on FAT drives with large cluster sizes then New Technology File System (NTFS) drives.

For information about hardware requirements of the IBM DB2 9.7 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows products, refer to Software Announcement 209-134, dated May 19, 2009.

Charge metrics definitions

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. PVU entitlements are based on processor families (vendors and brands). A Proof of Entitlement (PoE) must be obtained for the appropriate number of PVUs based on the level or tier of all processor cores activated and available for use by the program on the server. Some programs allow licensing to less than the full capacity of the server's activated processor cores, sometimes referred to as sub-capacity licensing. For programs which offer sub-capacity licensing, if a server is partitioned utilizing eligible partitioning technologies, then a PoE must be obtained for the appropriate number of PVUs based on all activated processor cores available for use in each partition where the program runs or is managed by the program. Refer to the International Passport Advantage Agreement Attachment for Sub-Capacity Terms or the program's License Information to determine applicable sub-capacity terms. The PVU entitlements are specific to the program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with PVU entitlements of another program.

For general overview of PVUs for processor families (vendors and brands), go to

http://www-306.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html

To calculate the exact PVU entitlements required for the program, go to
