IBM Mobile
Portal Accelerator (formerly IBM WebSphere Everyplace Mobile Portal Enable)
software is an advanced content adaptation product that helps users customize
portal content for mobile devices. It allows mobile users to access portals
via a highly navigable, personalized Web experience. Business services, content,
and commerce applications can be accessed from virtually anywhere using the
same open, Web-based integrated business services traditionally used on laptop
and desktop computers provided through WebSphere Portal software. It can
provide an easy, cost-effective way to deliver content and applications to
many mobile devices. For example, developers can create one version of Web
content and use it for multiple mobile devices rather than developing content
for each device.
The Mobile Portal Accelerator software can adapt the content for each mobile
device based on the specific device characteristics and capabilities, which
are defined in the software's device repository.
Mobile Portal Accelerator software includes a Mobile Portal Toolkit, which
supports IBM Rational® Application
Developer V7.5.1 and IBM Rational Software Architect V7.5.1. The Mobile Portal
Toolkit comes with the necessary tools to develop portlet applications for
mobile devices.
IBM Mobile
Portal Accelerator Device Update
This separately priced, related subscription service entitles Mobile Portal
Accelerator Device Update customers to receive regular updates to the mobile
device repository, including new mobile device definitions and updates as
they become available from device manufacturers.
Mobile Web portals are an important strategy for customers who want to
gain market advantage, increase their customers' loyalty, and increase revenues.
Using the Mobile Portal Accelerator, developers can write once and render
personalized Web content quickly across multiple mobile devices, which can
save time and expense. And with the Mobile Portal Accelerator Update subscriptions
service organizations can support even the latest devices available without
redeveloping their mobile Web applications.

IBM Mobile
Portal Accelerator V6.1 is an integrated, server-side infrastructure offering
that enables the design and deployment of mobile solutions, including the
enablement of mobile Web technologies for:
- Multi-channel access of portal content
- Write once, render on multiple devices
- Support for the mobile portal navigation model enables more usable and
flexible navigation on wireless devices. A mobile portal represents a set
of pages with menu links that appear as text, icons, or both. These links
allow end users to navigate to sub-menus or content pages.
Mobile Portal Accelerator integrates with WebSphere Portal platform services,
delivering security-rich, scalable and personalized mobile services including:
- Navigation, personalized experience, and multi-device rendering
- User registration and profile management
- Security, access control, and single sign-on
- Aggregation of a broad mix of applications into a unified display
The device-specific adaptation of the Mobile Portal Accelerator multi-channel
server enables separation of portlet development from page layout and branding.
It also allows for the optimization of the content based on the device-specific
capabilities. The diversity of mobile devices continues to increase, as do
their capabilities. Devices differ in their physical characteristics (screen
size and keyboard), as well as in the markup languages supported by their
browsers.
Delivering a high-quality user experience is increasingly dependent on
device-aware tooling and runtime device recognition that can optimize delivery
based on device-specific capabilities. Mobile Portal Accelerator can enhance
and improve the user experience.
Enablement
Mobile Portal Accelerator software provides an easy, cost-effective way
for content and application providers to help deliver revenue-producing content
and services, and minimize the complexity of integration.
- Device-independent markup language ("write once, render many") called
XML-based Device Independent Markup Extensions (XDIME)
- Subscription database containing mobile device definitions and characteristics
- Tooling support for application development - Markup/layout editors, mobile
portlet samples, APIs, and documentation
- Templates for rapid site development and enforcement of style guidelines
- Ability to translate existing markup to new and future XHTML devices
- Client side framework and widget design samples provide richer mobile
interactions on client capable mobile devices
- For application developers, the Mobile Portal Toolkit provides access
to pervasive services. The Mobile Portal Toolkit is based on proven technologies
and uses open standards to help increase application usage.
Mobile Portal Accelerator V6.1 is an update to WebSphere Everyplace Mobile Portal Enable V6.0.1
and includes updated support for WebSphere Portal V6.1 platform operating
on Windows, Linux,
Solaris and AIX platforms.
Support for rendering of Lotus Web Content Management (WCM) content
to XDIME 2 for Multi-channel rendering to mobile devices
- Easily promote WCM Web content through WebSphere Portal to server-based and
mobile audiences
An updated and enhanced multi-channel server, supporting XDIME 2
- Supports new 'portrait to landscape' and 'rollover image' mobile rendering
options
New XDIME enabled portlets are provided for out-of-the-box capability
and as samples for demonstration purposes:
- Mobile Portal RSS is an XDIME 2 / XDIME mobile-enabled version of the IBM Syndicated
Feeds Portlet and supports RSS2 and ATOM feeds
- Mobile Portal Stock portlet is an XDIME-2/XDIME mobile-enabled portlet
that displays stock quote and performance data for selected companies, symbols
and investments, with configuration and edit options for users to modify selected
stocks and quote sources
- Mobile Portal Client Framework Sample Portlet is a mobile-enabled portlet
and artifacts that showcase over 50 XDIME 2 sample widgets that can be used
to deliver an enhanced, more interactive experience to client capable mobile
devices. Examples of widgets include styling, transition, AJAX table, autocomplete,
popup, ticker tape, and more.
Updated Image Conversion Server (ICS) Version 4.3.5
New Healthcheck utility to improve verification of product installation
Updated runtime and development code
The Mobile Portal Accelerator V6.1 run-time features are based on WebSphere Portal

Processor Value Unit (PVU)
PVU is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. PVU entitlements
are based on processor families (vendors and brands). A Proof of Entitlement
(PoE) must be obtained for the appropriate number of PVUs based on the level
or tier of all processor cores activated and available for use by the Program
on the server. Some programs allow licensing to less than the full capacity
of the server's activated processor cores, sometimes referred to as sub-capacity
licensing. For programs which offer sub-capacity licensing, if a server is
partitioned utilizing eligible partitioning technologies, then a PoE must
be obtained for the appropriate number of PVUs based on all activated processor
cores available for use in each partition where the program runs or is managed
by the program. Refer to the International Passport Advantage Agreement
Attachment for Sub-Capacity Terms or the program's License Information to
determine applicable sub-capacity terms. The PVU entitlements are specific
to the program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with
PVU entitlements of another program.
For general overview of PVUs for processor families (vendors and brands),
go to

IBM has
transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help
you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled
solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the
service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed
to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem
resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate,
but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic
Services Agent.
The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that
replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services
and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources
for assistance in resolving technical problems.
The Electronic
Service Agent is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server.
It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic,
client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically
reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to
deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and
performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent
is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer
your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic
Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service
for your IBM server.
