WebSphere Application Server — Express V6.1 is an affordable,
ready-to-go solution for developing, running, and managing dynamic Web
sites and applications. Designed to meet the unique needs of small to
mid-size companies, it combines the power and function of an
industry-leading application server with easy-to-use development tools,
integrated applications, wizards, and samples to help you get up and
running quickly.
New and enhanced features make WebSphere Application Server — Express
V6.1 a cost-effective starting point for SOA.
Simple, rapid development and deployment
WebSphere Application Server — Express V6.1 includes a set of rapid development and deployment
features designed to boost productivity and help save precious time and resources. New features
include:

Enhanced tools. WebSphere Application Server — Express V6.1 includes a version of the core
Application Server Toolkit (AST). The AST offers basic support for the creation of new applications
targeting WebSphere Application Server — Express V6.1. The AST gives you the tools necessary to
develop and export JSR 168 portlets and JSR 116 SIP servlets, including wizards to create SIP
servlets, a rich deployment descriptor editor, and import/export wizards to package and deploy SIP
servlets. Support is also included for the rapid deployment feature, an easy mechanism to deploy
applications to a running V6.1 server. New automation tools offer color-coded source display,
command completion, configuration navigation, and syntax checking. Common administration tasks are
also a part of these tools, allowing you to drag and drop tasks into a specific location in the
script and have the automation command generated automatically at that point.

IBM Installation Factory for WebSphere Application Server V6.1. Self-managing autonomic technology
makes installation and deployment easy, reliable, and repeatable. By streamlining the
up-and-running process to just one simple step, the Installation Factory can save you valuable time
and enable you to become effective faster. New in this release, Installation Factory allows you to
prepackage service stream levels and to include applications and their configurations. You now also
generate cross-platform install packages, saving you time that can be used to focus on real business
issues.

JSF widget library is a set of prebuilt functions for use within Web user interfaces to help save
you development time and expense. Add features like graphs, data grids, and calendar date pickers
quickly, and with minimum effort, to make your Web user interfaces richer.

Java Development Kit (JDK) 5.0 innovations introduce significant improvements in programmer
productivity, application portability and performance. The industry specification for J2SE 5.0 (and
the IBM implementation of it as JDK 5.0) provides programming efficiencies through enhancements in
annotations, conversions, monitoring, and management. IBM innovations in the Virtual Machine
enhance modularity, profiling, debugging, and serviceability while other key efficiencies are gained
through compile- and run-time performance optimizations.

Increased flexibility comes from deployment enhancements, such as installation by
non-root/non-administrator users. Support is added for the portlet programming model JSR 168, which
enables portlet applications to be portable across the WebSphere stack.
Secure, scalable, and affordable SOA run time
WebSphere Application Server — Express V6.1 provides a secure, scalable and reliable environment
for your applications and services to execute in. IBM is committed to an open, standards-based
approach, and WebSphere Application Server — Express V6.1 reflects this with an open architectural
approach and support for a number of key new standards. Enhancements include:

Out-of-the-box security. Default security configurations are now set out of the box for peace of
mind right from the start. Single sign on support (SPNEGO) is offered, a default user registry is
enabled out of the box for better identity management, and by default, a secure service integration
bus enforces the use of secure transport protocols.

Support for Web Services Interoperability Basic Security Profile and updates to Web services
security ensure Web services interactions are secure.

Rich J2EE implementations give developers an unparalleled development environment that can increase
application programmer productivity They also improve portability across all JDK 5 platforms and
deliver much faster performance than previous versions. This improved development environment
continues to be surrounded by the industry-leading J2EE 1.4-compatible runtime environment from IBM.

Support for the portlet programming model standard JSR 168 enables interoperability among portlets
and portals. It can save development time by removing the need for portlets to be tailored to
specific applications and portals.

Outstanding performance and platform support. JDK 5 enables WebSphere Application Server —
Express V6.1 to deliver substantial performance improvements. IBM also continues its commitment to

Extensive communication services
With WebSphere Application Server — Express V6.1, you can improve the flexibility of your business
and increase return on investment by making application services more reusable and accessible to new
users, in new ways. New in V6.1 are:

Session Initiation Protocol servlet support. For a new communications experience, WebSphere
Application Server — Express V6.1 supports SIP servlets. This standardized support for
interactive user sessions involves real-time multimedia elements such as voice, video, instant
messaging, and online games. You can use SIP to make your Web applications more interactive and to
save valuable time and costs. For example, you could add a "click-to-call" button to your CRM
application to remove some manual call center processes. When the button is clicked, the
application uses its contact lists and can initiate a Voice over IP (VoIP) call to your client. SIP
tooling is also provided in the Application Server Toolkit to help you build IP applications more
easily.

Powerful Web services. WebSphere Application Server — Express V6.1 supports new Web services
standards to help you more securely extend your reach to new environments. The latest enhancements
provide better application portability and control, as well as performance improvements due to
faster parsing technology, SOAP/JMS enhancements, and changes to SOAP with Attachments API for Java
(SAAJ).

Web Services Business Activity (WS-BA) helps improve your control over interactions by providing a
framework through which application code can be automatically invoked to logically "undo" work, in
situations where a wider scope of work is deemed to have failed. This is particularly important
where Web service requests span trust boundaries across departments and enterprises. For example, a
process that books an entire vacation package may book a flight, car rental, and hotel from three
separate vendors. If a suitable hotel cannot be booked, the flight booking and car rental could be
undone without incurring penalties for cancellation.

Web Services Interoperability Basic Security Profile (WS-I BSP) helps standardize the use of Web
services security standards and technology in the development of interoperable Web services.

Web Services Notification (WS-N) helps you to distribute information efficiently, using a
standardized, event-driven approach. It can also help improve the interoperability between Java and
non-Java environments.

Service integration technology enhancements. WebSphere Application Server — Express V6.1 now
provides a choice of message store types used by the messaging engine. You can store persistent
data objects either in a database (data store) or a file system (file store). Using the new file
store capability can help improve performance and ease configuration and management.
Effective application management
WebSphere Application Server — Express V6.1 delivers effective, easy-to-use management tools to
help you minimize the costs of maintaining your environment. Focus resources on innovation, instead
of maintenance with:

Simplified administration. The new Console Command Assistant saves you time and money by
automatically creating scripting commands for you. You can now manage the IBM HTTP Server for
WebSphere Application Server from the administrative console, and you can also take advantage of
easier security configurations and simplified database connectivity. The new stand-alone thin
administration client offers increased flexibility for ISVs and customers who want to install an
administrative client on remote machines with limited disk capacity, or to create their own custom
WebSphere administration programs.

Increased productivity and control. Additional flexibility and new options in systems management,
administrative commands, messaging, and installation free up time for administrators and ensure more
productive, less error-prone environments.

IBM Support Assistant included with WebSphere Application Server — Express V6.1. To help you
minimize the business impact of any problem, IBM Support Assistant helps identify operational
problems early and makes self-help and problem reporting more effective. The search component
searches multiple IBM and other locations to lead you to the most pertinent support information.
Support links provide quick access to appropriate resources, such as support pages and news groups;
and the service component collects and adds the system data that IBM Support needs to analyze the
software problem. Software problems can be resolved more quickly, and the business impact of any
problem can be minimized.

Help and guidance from a community of users and partners. The ecosystem surrounding applications
and their respective application servers is constantly expanding and increasing in importance. IBM
offers extensive WebSphere Application Server — Express education and documentation, as well as a
skilled partner and user community to help you. WebSphere Application Server — Express V6.1 also
offers tight integration across the IBM software portfolio and introduces additional serviceability
and self-help enhancements.

(VPAT), containing details on the products accessibility compliance, at

IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within,
but not limited to an enterprise. You may aggregate the capacity for all
the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic
price. This results in a single proof of entitlement (PoE). It is your
responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the
limits of the entitlement of the product license.
Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product
license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the
country in which the agreement is made.

Packaging:
The packaging structure for this release has changed. The number of
media per box has decreased significantly, making it easier for you to
find what you need in a timely fashion.

Each offering is platform-specific, except for a few necessary media that
are in each box regardless of the platform they support. No longer will
you receive a shipment of disks for all platforms that WebSphere
supports. You can order the media for more than one platform as long as

WebSphere Application Server uses the security features of the respective operating systems, such as
local user registry. The customer is responsible for evaluation and selection of the various
WebSphere security features, including the implementation of authentication and authorization
policies. This responsibility extends to the administration of WebSphere security policies and
security-related policies external to WebSphere, such as the operating environment, network
topology/security, and physical security.

administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication

Charge metrics definitions:
Value Unit:
A Value Unit is a pricing charge metric for program license entitlements which is based
upon the quantity of a specific designated measurement used for a given program. Each program has a
designated measurement. The most commonly used designated measurement is a processor core.
However, for select programs, there are other designated measurements such as users, client devices,
and messages. The number of Value Unit entitlements required for a program depends on how the
program is deployed in your environment and must be obtained from a Value Unit table. You must
obtain a PoE for the calculated number of Value Unit entitlements for your implementation. The
Value Unit entitlements are specific to a program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or
aggregated with Value Unit entitlements of another program.
Processor (Value Unit):
A processor core is a functional unit within a computing device that interprets and
executes instructions. A processor core consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or
more arithmetic or logic unit. With multicore technology, each core is considered a processor. Not
all processor cores require the same number of Value Unit entitlements. To calculate the number of
Value Unit entitlements required, refer to the value unit table on the following Web site
With full capacity licensing, a PoE must be acquired for the appropriate
number of value units based on all activated processor cores available
for use on the server.
WebSphere Application Server — Express Developer User:
Except as specified otherwise in License Information, each PoE for
the WebSphere Application Server — Express Developer User includes one
unit test PoE. Your use of the components of the WebSphere Application
Server — Express Developer User are limited to one unit test PoE in
support of the components of the WebSphere Application Server — Express
Developer User.
Intranet User License Option:
For each PoE, under the Intranet User License Option, you are
authorized to have up to 20 Intranet users accessing the Application
Server component.
The Intranet User License Option authorizes you to provide applications
on intranet Web sites only.
Intranet Web sites are accessed by your employees and independent
contractors, and those of your wholly-owned or majority-owned
subsidiaries or a related company. A related company is any corporation,
company, or other entity that:

Is under common control with you.
For this purpose, "control" means that more than 50% of the controlled
entity's shares or ownership interest representing the right to make

Additional Intranet User License Option PoE do not entitle you to install

Unit test:
For each unit test. PoE to the program, you are authorized to
install each component of the program on a single machine for use by a
single developer for purposes of "unit testing", which is limited to
testing of code written or generated by such developer to confirm that
such code functions as designed. You are not authorized to use copies of
the program installed and used under unit test PoE for the following
purposes: testing applications on servers separate from the developer's
machine, or simulating production workloads or testing scalability of any
code, application, or system. The program cannot be used for production
purposes under a unit test PoE.

The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable
contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International
Passport Advantage Agreement and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.
Licensing:
IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information (LI) document and
PoE govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use.

Warranty:
IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified
operating environment it will conform to its specifications. The
warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does
not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that
IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the
results obtained from the use of the program.
IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on
known Program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the
original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).
Program technical support:
Technical support of a program product will be available for a
minimum of three years from the general availability date, as long as
your Software Maintenance is in effect. This technical support allows
you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for
product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and
operation of the program product. Software Maintenance also provides you
with access to updates, releases, and versions of the program. You will
be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with
12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM,
including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact
your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be
available for a fee.

If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are
the original licensee, return it within 30 days from the invoice date, to
the party (either IBM or its reseller) from whom you acquired it, for a
refund.

Software Maintenance is included with licenses purchased through Passport
Advantage and Passport Advantage Express. Product upgrades and Technical
Support are provided by the Software Maintenance offering as described in
the Agreements. Product upgrades provide the latest versions and
releases to entitled software and Technical Support provides voice and
electronic access to IBM support organizations, worldwide.
IBM includes one year of Software Maintenance with each program license
acquired. The initial period of Software Maintenance can be extended by
the purchase of a renewal option, if available.
While your Software Maintenance is in effect, IBM provides you assistance
for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to)
questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via
telephone and, if available, electronic access, to your IS technical
support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift
hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to
your end users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, 7

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put you on the road to
higher systems availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides an
exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available on the IBM
eServer® platform. These services provide the opportunity for greater system availability due to
faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate but
complementary elements: IBM Electronic Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent™.
Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry
points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to
gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.
The Electronic Service Agent is no-additional charge software that resides on your IBM eServer
system. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic,
customer-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error
logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service
agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware
problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service
that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected
through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help
answer your questions or diagnose problems.
