deployed in any infrastructure to integrate data across the enterprise. This transaction-oriented
solution automates the transformation and validation of high-volume and complex data without the
need for hand-coding.
WebSphere Transformation Extender can deploy the same transformation, validation, and routing in

WebSphere Transformation Extender is a powerful enhancement to the native transformation
capabilities included in other WebSphere products. It can be deployed directly within other
WebSphere products or as a stand-alone or embedded transformation engine.
WebSphere Transformation Extender provides:

WebSphere Transformation Extender V8.1 adds powerful and enhanced function to deploy standard
transformation faster throughout your enterprise and around the world.
Globalization
Enhanced codepage support enables you to use more than 200 codepages and
multiple locales. WebSphere Transformation Extender V8.1 automatically converts between codepages
and validates and output fields, such as data and time, based on object locale. Collation,
searching, and comparisons are also performed automatically based on locale. Any character from any
codepage can be entered directly into the WebSphere Transformation Extender Design Studio.
Performance
Extended performance profiler records time and executions that span runmaps.
You can now get a clear picture of the performance characteristics of your entire transformation
process at a glance. There is no need to split a complex map into a series of stand-alone maps or
ignore runmaps in your analysis. The entire transformation performance profile is displayed in a
single report for viewing as a text file or importing into another program, such as a spreadsheet,
for analysis.
Consumability

New remote debugger
extends the current visual debugger built into WebSphere Transformation Extender Design Studio to
debugging remote transformations. From within Design Studio, you can debug a transformation running
on a remote Windows, UNIX®, Linux, or z/OS USS computer. You do not need to duplicate the entire
run-time environment on your development machine to take advantage of the debugger capabilities
including breakpoints, data inspection, step-in-out-over, and more.

Enhanced user interface
includes more than 30 enhancements specifically designed to make the development and testing
environment faster and easier to use. The look-and-feel remains consistent with previous versions,
which eliminates the need for retraining.

Enhanced accessibility
refers to compliance with the U.S. Government Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. Almost the
entire user interface in WebSphere Transformation Extender is now compliant with this act. In
addition, windows can be navigated by the keyboard, all colors are configurable, and new accessible
icons are available.
Power

New functions give new power to extend transformations and applications. You can use these
functions in addition to the more than 120 functions currently available.

New dynamic functions enable you to easily extend WebSphere Transformation Extender and call
user-defined C/C++ functions directly from a transformation using the same syntax and semantics as a
functional map. You can pass text, integers, and date/time elements to the functions. You can also
develop a cross-platform library of user-defined functions that behave as if they were native
mapping functions.
WebSphere Transformation Extender industry packs
are also enhanced to deliver better performance, more function, and more currency with industry
standards.

WebSphere Transformation Extender Pack for HIPAA EDI V4.2
provides updated support for the latest developments in HIPAA including claims attachments.

WebSphere Transformation Extender Pack for X12 V2.7
supports the latest X12 5030 standard.

Product structure
WebSphere Transformation Extender delivers solutions targeted to any
environment and optional components to deliver fast time to value.
Base editions
provide the infrastructure and components necessary for production data transformation environments.
Base editions are targeted to an operating environment, such as an ESB with WebSphere Message
Broker. All implementations have one or more base editions, depending on the enterprise
architecture and where WebSphere Transformation Extender will be implemented.
Development tooling
includes packages for developing transformations and interfacing WebSphere Transformation Extender
to a custom programming environment. All WebSphere Transformation Extender implementations include
at least one WebSphere Transformation Extender Design Studio tooling package to develop, test, and
tune transformations and metadata.
Optional WebSphere Transformation Extender components
deliver significant value in the development and implementation of WebSphere Transformation
Extender. For example, for HIPAA compliance and data transformation integration, WebSphere
Transformation Extender Pack for HIPAA EDI contains prebuilt data transformations, metadata, and
HIPAA data compliance routines that can significantly decrease the development effort while
increasing the quality of the deployed application.
Base editions
All base editions include the WebSphere Transformation Extender
transformation engine. Most of the adapters for integrating with other technologies in the
enterprise, such as WebSphere MQ, are included. The adapters not included are those for connection
to Web services and encryption/security protocols. For more information on optional packages, refer
to the
Optional components
section.
WebSphere Transformation Extender
package is used to deploy transformations in custom programming environments. APIs and interfaces
such as C, Java, EJB, COBOL, and others are available to integrate the transformation engine into
your environment or program. This package is used when you want to call directly from your
application into the transformation engine.
WebSphere Transformation Extender with Command Server
allows the transformation engine to be called directly from a command line, shell script, or timer.
WebSphere Transformation Extender Command Server is a powerful command-line-driven environment to
control the execution of a transformation. Use this package to extend an existing application and
infrastructure with minimal intrusion.
WebSphere Transformation Extender with Launcher
includes the WebSphere Transformation Extender Launcher and the Command Server. The launcher
activates transformations based on triggers. Triggers can be a file creation, a message arriving on
an IBM MQ Queue, a DBMS trigger, a timer, and many other options as well as combinations of
triggers. The launcher offers online run-time environment that synchronizes and controls
complicated data transformations while maintaining and optimizing the execution environment for the
transformations.
WebSphere Transformation Extender for Message Broker
includes a prebuilt interface between WebSphere Message Broker and WebSphere Transformation
Extender. WebSphere Transformation Extender can place maps directly into the WebSphere Message
Broker flow. WebSphere Transformation Extender for Message Broker is installed on top of WebSphere
Message Broker to handle complex data transformation requirements.
WebSphere Transformation Extender for Message Broker is an extension for WebSphere Message Broker
that allows WebSphere Message Broker to work with messages in virtually any format by using a
WebSphere Transformation Extender transformation. Message Broker can handle messages in formats
that cannot be supported directly with the built-in message parsing capabilities of Message Broker.
In addition to this main function, any WebSphere Transformation Extender adapter can be used inside
WebSphere Message Broker to extend the range and reach of Message Broker (for example, using FTP or
SMTP protocols). Benefits include the following:

WebSphere Transformation Extender for Message Broker replaces WebSphere DataStage® TX Extender for
Message Broker (PID 5724N11) and the Passport Advantage® media pack for WebSphere Transformation
Extender for Message Broker (part number BA0KNNA) replaces the media pack part for WebSphere
DataStage TX Extender for Message Broker (part number BA0G5NA). WebSphere Transformation Extender
for Message Broker includes all of the features available in WebSphere Transformation Extender V8.1
such as performance, globalization, consumability, and power.
Tooling
Tooling consists of the development tools required to develop transformations and metadata and
optionally interface WebSphere Transformation Extender with a custom programming environment.
WebSphere Transformation Extender Design Studio
contains a GUI IDE where transformations and metadata are developed, imported, tested and
performance tuned. A WebSphere Transformation Extender Design Studio is used for any of the base
editions. After the transformations are developed, tested, and tuned in Design Studio, the
transformation is moved to the base edition for system test and production execution.
WebSphere Transformation Extender SDK
delivers the development environment for all of the APIs such as C, Java, EJB, and COBOL to
integrate custom programming environments directly to WebSphere Transformation Extender. In
addition, you can develop custom adapters for WebSphere Transformation Extender using this SDK and
deploy them in any base edition. The SDK does not include the Design Studio. The SDK is needed
only to develop a custom adapter for any base edition or when using the WebSphere Transformation
Extender base edition.
Optional components
The optional WebSphere Transformation Extender components enhance the environment and capabilities
of WebSphere Transformation Extender and extend the environments in which it can operate out of the
box.
WebSphere Transformation Extender industry packs
WebSphere Transformation Extender industry
packs contain out-of-the-box predefined metadata for data formats used extensively in
business-to-business (B2B) applications. Some of the industry packs also contain compliance
routines and example transformations. These packs dramatically accelerate the deployment time and
increase the application quality by delivering validated and reusable components that have extensive
industry implementation. WebSphere Transformation Extender Industry Packs work with any base
edition.

WebSphere Transformation Extender Trading Manager users can audit, control, monitor, and view the
entire B2B integration environment across the extended enterprise with secure data exchange fully
integrated with back-end systems. Trading Manager consists of two components: Partner Manager (a
graphical client for administering partner and trade link information) and Message Manager (a
run-time system that manages integration of inbound and outbound partner messages).
WebSphere Transformation Extender Trading Manager can be integrated with WebSphere Partner Gateway
to provide an end-to-end B2B integration environment and expand the reach of WebSphere
Transformation Extender into B2B/EDI Gateway customer self-service, security, and AS1, AS2, and AS3
futures.
WebSphere Transformation Extender Trading Manager requires the WebSphere Transformation Extender
with Launcher base edition.
WebSphere Transformation Extender Pack for Web Services
offers out-of-the-box capabilities to send Web Service requests to an SOA provider directly from a
transformation. WebSphere Transformation Extender Pack for Web Services works with any base
edition.
WebSphere Transformation Extender Security Collection
offers additional adapters to encrypt and decrypt data according to many popular standards.
Adapters included are S/MIME, SSL, and OpenPGP. WebSphere Transformation Extender Security
Collection works with any base edition.
WebSphere Transformation Extender Launcher Agent
includes an inbound HTTP agent for WebSphere Transformation Extender. This enables WebSphere
Transformation Extender with Launcher to listen and respond to HTTP requests. WebSphere
Transformation Extender Launcher Agent requires the WebSphere Transformation Extender with Launcher
base edition.

Planning information
Installability:
To install on Windows platforms, use the provided launcher program (setup.exe) to install your
licensed products.
To install on UNIX® platforms, install only the runtime. Use the program (DTXINST) to install on
UNIX platforms.
Migration from previous versions:
To take advantage of new features, recompiling is recommended. WebSphere Transformation
Extender V8.1, however, can run maps back to V5 without recompiling, unless those maps were used to
transform XML data. If XML data is transformed, WebSphere Transformation Extender V8.1 can run maps
from V6.7, V7.5, and V8.0 without recompiling. Performance and ease-of-use enhancements that were
added in V8.0 will not be realized if moving from V6.7 or V7.5. A wizard is included to guide you
through the migration process for those trees into the V8 format when you want to take advantage of
the new XML features. There are no changes when you migrate from V8.0.
If you use a version before V6.7 for XML transformations, those type trees must be reimported from
their DTD or schema and the map adjusted accordingly in V8.
As before, multiple versions of WebSphere Transformation Extender base edition and Design Studio can
be run on the same machine. You must ensure the multiple versions do not conflict on the same
resources, such as a TCP/IP socket or a file.
Migrating from a previous version of WebSphere Transformation Extender Trading Manager is a
three-step process:
-
Run the included upgrade program to convert the Partner Manager information.
-
Run the EDI Wizard to build the new EDI tree.
-
Recompile and redeploy Message Manager.
When migrating from previous versions of WebSphere Transformation Extender Pack for HIPAA EDI:
-
Review new configuration switches in compliance_check_parameter.dat.
-
Recompile and redeploy compliance_check map.
When migrating from previous versions of WebSphere Transformation Extender Pack for X12 or EDIFACT:
-
If using one of the new standards, use the new tree in the map.
-
If using a previous standard, no change is required.
Software Maintenance, previously referred to as Software Subscription and Technical Support, is
included in the Passport Advantage Agreement. Installation and technical support is provided by the
Software Maintenance offering of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. This fee
service enhances customer productivity, with voice and electronic access into IBM support
organizations.

Charge metrics definitions
Processor:
A processor (commonly called a CPU or core) is a functional unit within a computing device
that interprets and executes instructions. A processor consists of at least an instruction control
unit and one or more arithmetic or logic unit. With multicore technology each core is considered a
processor. With full capacity licensing, a proof of entitlement (POE) must be acquired for all
activated processors on the server available to the program or a component of the program.
Authorized user:
An authorized user is one and only one individual (named or unnamed) within or outside your
enterprise. A POE must be obtained for each individual user accessing the program in any manner. A
program licensed under an authorized user POE may be installed on a single computer or server, and
accessed by multiple users, provided that a POE has been obtained for each individual user accessing
the program either directly or indirectly (via a multiplexing program, device, or application
server) through any means on behalf of the user.
Server:
A server is a computer system that executes requested procedures, commands, or applications
to one or more user or client devices over a network. A POE must be obtained for each server on
which the program or a component of the program is run or for each server managed by the Program.
Where blade technology is employed, each blade is considered a separate server.
Per application instance:
You are permitted to deploy and run one copy of the licensed product on one server. For
the WebSphere Transformation Extender Industry Packs, they are installed on the WebSphere
Transformation Extender Design Studio machine but are licensed per application instance on the
production, backup, and system test servers. You may install the industry packs on any number of
Design Studio servers, but can only deploy them only to the number of servers that match how many
application instances acquired.
Per establishment:
If you have acquired an establishment authorization, you are permitted to deploy an
unlimited number of copies of the licensed program only on servers owned or leased by you that are
located at a single physical site, including the surrounding campus and satellite offices.

Effective August 15, 2006, IBM will withdraw from marketing the IBM Passport Advantage media pack
(part number BA0G5NA) for WebSphere DataStage® Transformation Extender for Message Broker,
licensed under the IBM International Program License Agreement.
The media pack being withdrawn is replaced by the media pack (part number BA0KNNA) for WebSphere
Transformation Extender for Message Broker, which is being made available in this announcement of
WebSphere Transformation Extender V8.1.
Orders for this part number will not be accepted after the stated effective date of withdrawal, nor
will normal marketing activities or educational support be available unless previous agreement
exists between the customer and IBM.

This program includes a warranty for one year from acquisition from
IBM or an authorized IBM Business Partner. For one year from acquisition
of the program, this warranty provides the customer with access to
databases containing program information and FAQs, including any known
fixes to defects, which the customer can download or otherwise obtain and
install.
Program technical support:
Technical support of a program product will be available for a
minimum of three years from the general availability date, as long as
your Software Maintenance is in effect. This technical support allows
you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for
product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and
operation of the program product. Software Maintenance also provides you
with access to updates, releases, and versions of the program. Customers
will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support
with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from
IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date,
contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension
may be available for a fee.

IBM includes one year of Software Maintenance with the initial license
acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software
Maintenance can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if
available.
While your Software Maintenance is in effect, IBM provides you assistance
for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to)
questions; and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via
telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your IS technical
support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift
hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to
your end users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day,
every day of the year. For additional details, visit

development of applications, your use of programs in other than their
specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which
IBM is not responsible under this agreement.

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put you on the road to
higher systems availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides an
exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available on the IBM
eServer® platform. These services provide the opportunity for greater system availability due to
faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate but
complementary elements: IBM Electronic Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent™.
Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry
points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to
gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.
The Electronic Service Agent is no-additional charge software that resides on your IBM eServer
system. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic,
customer-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error
logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service
agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware
problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service
that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected
through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help
answer your questions or diagnose problems.
